Every time it's actually Billy talking, you can see he's visibly upset. The Mind Flayer can get angry, but I don't think it has the ability to understand and create actual human emotion. Even when it possessed Will, it had two modes, disconnected and enraged. When the actual person is talking, they're always emotional and confused or scared. Billy is talking to Max there, but the Mind Flayer amplifies and uses all of his anger. Billy was so easy to possess because he was already broken down after being left to be raised by his crap dad. The reason he started to leave Max alone was because she did the one thing he hadn't been able to do in a long time, stand up to his monster.
Fun fact: when Billy says “I’ll gut you” after breaking the glass, Dacre’s Australian accent is heard. Dacre himself confirms it and is ashamed of how obvious it sounds during that line.
The thing you have to remember about this show is that its seasons are always structured like movies. The first couple episodes are always expositional, and work to bring you into the current world of these characters. Then there's the inciting incident(s) in episodes 3/4, rising action in 5/6, penultimate in 7, and then the big finale climax in 8. When you spread this show out over weeks it diminishes the structure of it slightly. That's why people always finish this show's seasons so fast, and why they want these reactions out faster. Lol

11 and Billy are my favorite, they really held this season, I like Steve too. Billy isn’t a jerk, he can’t control it. He acts the way he does is because of his dad, you’ll see more. You can tell in some of the show where Billy has tears and he’s still in there and is literally asking for help. You don’t have to take the screen off just edit it like you do

Smh, duh, I'm just now realizing how Stranger Things incorporates little bits of elements from just about every popular 80s/90s movies. Like you mentioned how the kids reminded you of the kids from Goonies, the bike scene in Season 2 when they were being chased by the bad guys reminded me of the bike scene in ET and when Eleven put a sheet over her head to go trick or treating like ET, some elements of Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Terminator, etc. I was a teen in the 80s, so I vaguely remember the movies I watched back then. This series reminds me so much of my youth, going to the Mall, having fun with friends, the music, big hair and eyeshadow for the girls, a mullett for the guys, lol.
