My wife is currently taking driving lessons in South Essex, and finds these videos very helpful. It's also nice that we are familiar with many of the roads in and around Bury St Edmunds.
Great use of split camera angles, particularly the use of the drone overhead and correct road positioning. I wish I'd had access to media like this when I first started learning to drive. Real world - live situations and not diagrams in HMSO guides.
Enjoying the lessons all the way from Nairobi Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪, my driving test is next week Thursday, with the skills acquired here am very confident and very certain that I will not let you and my fellow viewers and subscribers down. Asante sana (Thank you very much)
These videos are so helpful as I'm currently only able to go out with my mum due to lessons being fully booked everywhere I've called and she doesn't want to give me the wrong advice.
On my 6th lesson and still can’t do this properly 😭 honestly came back from my lesson the other day and just cried cus I felt so stupid. Pls tell me it gets better
I always feel like I hold people up taking my time Also there are a lot of early turns close to junctions too. My instructor said in this case you should put your indicator on slightly earlier especially close to a national speed limit dual carriageway.
I've been driving on my own for a few months and just today I almost made a blunder where I didn't make effective enough observations at a T junction, only noticing the car approaching to my right and not looking left properly enough. I think I had looked left but it was an old observation and my view was not particularly far. Luckily I looked left at the last second after I had pulled out from the junction as I was about to pull into the left hand lane and was able to get on the brake before cutting across the mini that I didn't see coming from my left. I usually do good observations but I feel quite annoyed at myself for that mistake (like I do with any driving mistake). But I'm just glad that at least I didn't cause an accident. I'll take it as a lesson to always be extra cautious.
I would like to ask when turning left onto a major road, do we need to give way to traffic coming from the left, since we do not cross their path. Thanks.
As always, thanks for the brilliant videos. Is there a "technique" please for very "tight" left turns. I often go wide or run over the kerb. Is the trick to steer a bit late in order to clear the kerb? I'm learning in an automatic car but it's something I can't get to grips with. Any feedback would be wonderful, thanks.
Knowing when to steer left to follow the kerb around the corner can be tricky at first - so try going a little slower whilst you perfect your technique. If you watch the video at around 5:44 you can see that we stay in our normal road position until we reach the point where the kerb bends, then we steer left to follow the kerb. We try to keep the car about a metre from the kerb, so that our rear wheel doesn't get too close. I'm sure you will be fine after a little more practice 👍🏼
I'm told to do a squeezy (break half way, clutch down, back to biting point), keeping my feet where they are I turn in. Is this also okay to do? (mainly for side roads). I don't see many videos where this is performed. Also, when setting of should I have the clutch up all the way before adding more gass?
We only push the clutch when changing gear or stopping - but if it works for you then that’s fine. These two videos might help: Giving Way at junctions: ruclips.net/video/8NeJZFiMwzQ/видео.html Gas then bite to pull away: ruclips.net/video/3AS1ZtyfjC4/видео.html

The only thing I don't like about your videos is here in Turkey we drive on the right side of the road (as in almost rest of the world) but your advices are for driving on left side. In any case these videos are immensely helpful, thanks a lot :)
thanks for video i am bit confused when we are waiting on give way lines on T junction who has priority those are on T junction or those are joining minor to major road. if i am on t junction i want to turn right but there is one vahicle who is waiting to trun right. does he or i have priority to turn first? thank you
All traffic on the major road has priority over all traffic on the minor road. So the person waiting at the Give Way line must be patient and wait until the traffic on the major road has gone.
2:44 I agree with whats said however visually it looks like the driver is pretty much at a full stop, is he not dropping into 1st? As 2nd might work at that speed but i feel like we'd be able to hear or see the car judder.
The car in this video is automatic - but we show which gear to use in a manual car in this video: How To Give Way At Open & Closed Junctions | Learn to drive: Basic skills ruclips.net/video/8NeJZFiMwzQ/видео.html 👍🏼
When you approach a T junction and intend to turn, do we apply the handbrake or the footbrake to stop?? And if I stop using the wrong one would I fail?
We should always use the foot brake to stop, and the handbrake once stopped. Pulling the handbrake on whilst moving is dangerous, as it can cause the car to lose control.
That sign means that the national speed limit applies - not no limit! This video explains more: Know Your Speed Limits | Learn to drive: Highway Code ruclips.net/video/L0eY0FfQ1rs/видео.html 👍🏼
Once we are in the flow of traffic we normally just use our mirrors, with the occasional shoulder check when changing lanes. However, if you think the situation needs a blind-spot check to stay safe, then why not?
When coming onto a t junction if you have to stop do you have to find the bite point again or can you just come off the brake and then the clutch slowly?
If the road is flat, then we release the brake, press the accelerator pedal, and then use the clutch bite point to start driving again. It's just the same as pulling away anywhere else 👍🏼
Great Video! I Really helpful. Shall i ask you a question? When turning right from major road to a minor road at a fairly busy T junction (without traffic light how to position our car? Should we come close to the centre line or shall we wait close to the left side for the traffic to clear? If we come close to the centre line and wait it may block the traffic behind as most of our roads are congested at junctions. If we wait close to the left then we may not be able to turn as traffic from behind keeps on passing. Could you please explain what is the best way?
+pn genmail We recommend positioning to the right of your lane, beside the centre of the road. This road position will make it clear that we are turning right (useful if our indicators are obscured) and allow following traffic to pass to our left if the road is wide enough. Don’t worry if sometimes we hold traffic behind us up while we wait.
