Easily the better speech than the first prize winner. We at Toastmasters have this habit of rewarding the technique more than the content. This was simply a better speech.
Aditya Patil I think this guy had a better delivery too. I think sometimes people take the "technique" too literally. So when someone is running all over the stage for no apparent reason: "oh, that is using the space". And if someone is overly emphatic: "ooooo look at the vocal variety". The "techniques" should enhance the message. They shouldn't be in And of themselves. I think a lot of judges forget that. They are too wedded to the boxes on the judging from and they forget to ask whether the various criteria were used well. A small gesture perfectly timed is far more effective than running across the entire stage for the sake of running across the stage.......
Amanda O'Leary Absolutely agree to your point. Most of us forget that the technique is a means to an end and not end itself. Also not sure if you have observed but I also feel our evaluators are just not critical enough. The evaluation most of the times isn't real.
Aditya Patil I wholeheartedly agree. My speech didn't get better until I heard a brutal evaluation: "your vocal variety was overwrought and at times you were almost yelling" up until that point I had heard trite evaluations like "great speech. Use more of the stage next time". The brutal one was hard to hear but the person was right. I fixed the problem and made it to second place at district (So close!). I don't think I would have picked up on what I was doing wrong had the evaluator not had the guts to be so blunt
Amanda O'Leary Oh wow! Congratulations on the second prize! :) The problem i think is that such a critical evaluation is not encouraged. I have heard Toastmasters talking in hushed voice about people who are upfront and do not sugarcoat the feedback. If one needs to improve the public speaking skill one needs to be ready to accept feedback. Anyways, we need to do what we can at our level. I have started being more stringent with the speeches I mentor. Also during the evaluations I don't exaggerate, I am to the point. Thank you for your reply. Good to hear from a Toastmaster from a different country. Cheers.
@@paigebrewer2990 Totally agreed. Personally, he used every single technique perfectly. Emotional connection was there and most importantly, he engaged audience extremely well. Hope to see him comeback with a bang in coming years to claim his title.
I bet he was one of the first in the speaking order. Judges tend to be a bit harsh at the beginning and flex as the contest goes. He deserved first place 🥇
I agree he should have been First place for all the reasons that other's chose below in the comments, i know Kevin from the beginning when he joined our Palm Harbor Toastmasters Club 8248 3 years ago
I have to admit that this was a perfect message for speakers and toastmasters who may be loosing their vision. His content was very inspiring and motivating and I loved how he developed the speech. However, the use of humour with the winner was much better and he used a story that more of the audience could have related to .
This one is truly amazing! People do need to speak up, because others will not come just to hear you. It is your responsibility to stand up and speak, and let others know the power of your words!
Wow!! Another person Robbed of First Place!? Wonder what their reasoning was for 3rd place? SMH. Don’t worry Bro, keep sharing your story and spreading your voice to people
He is far better than first two on these points (1) Vocal Tone (2) Content (3) Style of Presentation (4) Tempo of the voice. Seems 1st price gone to horrible presentation so as 2nd. Some serious errors in judgments
Typical toastmaster judgment. The winner is always the comedian. This is a speech contest not a mono act / comedy show. This guy should have been the winner. This was a speech and not a comedy show.. God help the art of public speaking if this is the standard set by toastmasters.
I think toastmasters were confused with the names of Kevin Stamper and the one who won... Just a copy of Dananjaya Hettiarachchi made it through.... Thats a shame!!
I have heard people like him...and you know what they turned out to be gay ….just because he has a child it doesn't mean he isn't gay....ive seen that too...
Beautiful and touching speech ❤

I also agree this speech should have won. I found the winner's delivery to be contrived, and I felt the structure of this speech was more coherent.
I find his speech much better because it was authentic. :)
I have heard this speech so many times, I can recite this backwards. Loved this!
What a nice speech
I really appreciated this message (and its delivery!). I needed to hear that - thank you so much!
Heard many toastmaster speeches. But this one is my favourite till now!
You forgot Dananjaya Hediarachi's, look up the 2014 winner
I agree he should have been First place for all the reasons that other's chose below in the comments,
i know Kevin from the beginning when he joined our Palm Harbor Toastmasters Club 8248 3 years ago
Absolutely beautiful
I am so touched to hear the speech again even though I watched this many years ago.
Outstanding speech!
He should be the champion
SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL
Kevin did Terrific, I watch personally over the months how the speech came to fruition he is from my club Palm Harbor, Florida #8248

Smooth delivery by Manoj as well.

Amazing story💝, I love it.

Wow!! Another person Robbed of First Place!? Wonder what their reasoning was for 3rd place? SMH. Don’t worry Bro, keep sharing your story and spreading your voice to people
No disrespect to the other speakers
He should have won the 1st place
At last, their uncut versions. :')
Deserves 1st place
My sentiments as well
I thought the same thing.
toastmasters twisted positions 1st to 3rd
A positively evangelical speech, slightly contrived in parts, although much less so than the 1st and 2nd placings.
He is far better than first two on these points (1) Vocal Tone (2) Content (3) Style of Presentation (4) Tempo of the voice. Seems 1st price gone to horrible presentation so as 2nd. Some serious errors in judgments
Can anybody help me?
I honestly cannot understand how judging works in these contests if this is third it feels like it is just all chance.

Should've won first place.
Manjistha Seeburn
his opening is vague, count till 3.. so many voices in room. not making sense.
"..your voice cannot be automated"..that didn't age too well :) Great speech though
Hands down, the best speech. I don’t like the overly funny or dramatic ones.
I have heard people like him...and you know what they turned out to be gay ….just because he has a child it doesn't mean he isn't gay....ive seen that too...
