      100% I wish though they would of gave her more to do...she had the potential to be a BOSS, in the vein of Angela Channing (Jane Wyman) of "Falcon Crest " ! I read that Stanwyck had very little in the line of good things to say about "The Colbys"....but she's still a BOSS!

      It just a shame it didn't live up to this incredible title sequence. It was a bland and empty show for the most part.

    • @maestroclassico5801
      @maestroclassico5801 10 месяцев назад

      @@rolandbaldwin It sure got that way. It had its moments. But I'm biased....I just loved Chuck Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, and Katherine Ross (The Stepford Wives anyone?), and then became a fan of Stephanie Beacham....who actually almost single handedly SAVED the last season of Dynasty. I would've written season 2 differently and if I were Spelling and the Shapiros, figured out how to merge the 2 shows better. When they cancelled THE COLBYS, they should've made Dynasty an hour and a HALF and had more of them....that last season of Dynasty, Jason Colby's name kept coming up but no Chuck.

      Chuck was not suited to this genre. His stiffness, and pedantic geriatric delivery were at odds with the energy of Dynasty's times. He probably only symbolized the desperation of the show's producers to retrieve their investment.

      @@johnbenjaminmasilamoni3266 I agree totally. He was horribly miscast for a show like this. And the fact that such a cast of heavy hitters couldn't save it just goes to show how horrible the concept, writing and plots were. By the time "The Colbys" premiered, the "Dynasty" writing had already gone into the toilet, so basically the spinoff began when things were already terrible.

    Hands down the best tv show opening theme ever. The Colbys was even better than Dynasty the problem was these morons at ABC decided to pit it against the number one show on television at the time, Cheers. Not just Cheers but the entire Thursday night NBC line-up that dominated television in the 80s. If these corporate idiots had brains they would have placed The Colbys after Dynasty on Wednesday night and made Wednesday the powerhouse night for television in the 80s.

We didn't have networks showing commercials during squished closing credits. We didn't have channels full of fake, scripted, "reality" shows. Too bad it did not quite reach an audience like Dynasty, probably because of the bad choice of casting Emma Samms as Fallon, Lol !! (nothing against Emma) but, dont insult the audience, Pamela Sue Martin had Blue eyes and a sexy raspy voice not a British accent.
      Maxwell Caulfield was delicious eye candy though...

    The Colbys had potential but it tried to hard to imitate Dynasty. They should have taken a few more risks with the characters and introduced more Hollywood-based storylines.
    Jackie Collins Hollywood Wives miniseries would have been a better show to copy. I loved Stephanie Beacham, Emma Samms and Max Caulfield. All it needed was Sammy Jo Carrington in LA trying to sleep her way to stardom.

      Yes, in Europe a French Comedian made a joke about The Opening Sequence Of The Young & The Restless (With The White Backdrop). They never have Opening Sequences like that on UK Soaps. Eastenders has a Map, while Coronation Street always shows a Cat while Emmerdale has you looking at The Village from an aerial point of view.

    I love all all the nighttime soaps from the eighties, but I have come to recognize and respect Dallas for being the King of the Hill. Knots Landing is a definite second, Dynasty third, and the rest fall thereafter. Knots Landing probably had the best and most believable stories. Knots Landing also ran the longest, fourteen years; Dallas ran thirteen; Falcon Crest nine; Dynasty eight; The Colbys two; Flamingo Road two; The Yellow Rose one. I love them all! But the Big Four: Dallas, Knots Landing, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest were the best, no doubt.

      @daltonbelflower7331 10 лет назад

      True Peter, but it ran for only eight years, from 1981 to 1989. Its first season began as a mid-season replacement in January 1981 and had only 13 episodes. So, yes, it did have nine seasons, but was only on the air for eight years.

      Knots Landing starts in December 1979, Falcon Crest in December 1981. Are these "full" years??? Two mid-season shows more for you...

    • @TheEwing69
      @TheEwing69 8 лет назад

      +Peter Patzig Still counts as a season, many classics shows fall under this category as a mid season replacement, including perhaps the greatest sitcom of all time, All in the Family, which premiered in Jan 1971, but was still classified as a 1970-71 show. DALLAS will always be king of the hill, which ALSO started as a 5 episode miniseries, Warner Bros mistakenly named it as season 1 when they released the DVD's.

    A radio show I like has a lost tv themes item and this was this week’s. I couldn’t believe this a theme tune for a soap, sounds more like Superman! Did John Williams compose it? It also has a hint of Star Trek: the Next Generation, I know it was earlier though.

    Dynasty was the no.1 show in the US at this time so introducing this spin off series might have seemed a good idea but in reality it hastened it's demise. The schedule became over saturated with soaps about rich people and the formula ran out of steam.

  • @daltonbelflower7331

    I'd have to say Dynasty is my favorite, then Knots Landing and Dallas in second, with Falcon Crest in third. I think The Colbys would've done better had it came two years earlier when Dynasty was rising to the top. They both could have went to the top 5 together, just like Dallas and Knots Landing. Its just a shame that waited such a while to have a Dynasty II.

    There are only two exceptions in that cast: Charlton Heston had gained quite a lot of experience in waddling through sht, and Barbara Stanwyck had learned to walk over sht decades before the Colbys ever got in her way.

It just seemed like Tracy was a much closer physical resemblance to Pamela Sue Martin... height, voice, cheek bones.... and Emma and Stephanie could have done an awesome mother/ daughter combo... Gordon Piercey ... and even though Emma's chemistry with John James was OK.... when she ended up back on Dynasty in '87, Emma didn't seem to blend in and gel with any of the other characters. A bit sad considering the intense dynamics PSM had with Alexis, Krystal, Adam and her dear father... and that frienemy thing she had with Sammy Jo was just lame!

    I always thought The Colby’s theme sounded like it had been lifted from Superman. At least, the beginning part. Awesome theme but the show was DOA. They had all movie stars & beautiful young actors but nothing to show for it. I don’t even think Claire Yarlett had a storyline (Did she?). Her character should have been a Lucy Ewing type. Spoiled & Rich. I was too big of a Pamela Sue Martin fan to ever become interested in her as Fallon. She was all wrong for the part on both shows. I did like John James though. Good looking guy & he could act.
