  • This was my review of the Sun Joe Tiller and Cultivator. I had a lot of fun making this video. The Sun Joe was a breeze to put together and just as easy to use. I only ruined one cord in the making of this video. It was not broken to the wire but to me still unsafe. This thing is perfect for the home user who will use it for big jobs once or twice a year. I could see using it for composting it would be great. I see myself using it maybe once a month and once a year for large projects.

    Thanks man, I just got this same tiller myself. Here in Chicago it does pretty well on my weed invaded yard, not just the garden beds. If you have soft soil where you live it does great, if you live in an area with hard soil, maybe it’s not the best option.

I've got a pretty large area to till; however, I will be doing so over time. Therefore, your comment about the rental cost adding up made perfect sense! Your helper was/is pretty cool!!! Looks like a great father - son experience you'll enjoy over time. About renting a tiller: often you can pay someone to till for about the same cost as renting the tool. You save all the time of getting the tool, and taking it back, plus the work of doing the tilling. Plus, the hired tiller person is very experienced and may do a better tilling job.

    i bought the smaller version last year to maintain a lot of raised garden beds, it would literally take me the better part of the day (8-10 hours with a few small breaks) in early spring/late fall to turn them over with a shovel. To me, time is money ... probably my favorite thing to say. That little small sunjoe tilller did all the beds in less than 1 hour.....that means, I freed up 7-9 hours of my time to do other more important things with the cost of electricity being about $1. I was so impressed with its performance, I kinda decided I was going to see if I could make it fail .... hard kentucky clay soil, never had a shovel on it ... it took a while, but I leveled a path on a hillside 4 feet x 16 feet to put in new raised beds .... still impressed and mad i couldn't break it ... I did other crazy things with it all the way up until the ground finally froze this past winter.... it still works great and I never could break it. Last week I bought the larger model (the one in your video to be exact, the largest most powerful model they have) ... I am going to use it to expand my garden in this hard kentucky clay soil this spring. I hope the larger model is built as good as the smaller one. I only bought the larger model because its more powerful but most importantly it is wider....I have an area 12 x 65 feet to prepare, not even my 2 gas tillers could handle it. Time will tell if the sunjoe can.

    I have a lot of clay and packed dirt. I wound up putting a 25lbs weigh plate between the motor and the lower handle, otherwise it bounced all over. Once the weight was in place it worked a treat on the harder dirt area and even chopped up some of the roots.

    Outstanding video Brother Shaw. I assembled mine and put it to the test. WORKED AWESOME. I am in sun-baked-dirt Southern California (aka High Desert). I thought it might have a tough time seeing as the dirt here is like concrete. I was WRONG. Although it created a dust storm, this bad boy did the job in record time. MAD POWER too. So much faster and easier than "Hand Tilling", which I have done. Now time to plant while it's still cool outside. Thanks for the insight.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch, and even more for leaving a comment. I really enjoy mine. I plan on using it a lot this year. As for your yard, If your soil is Sandy and somewhat soft you will love this thing. It's in hard clay soil that it can struggle. When I say struggle, I mean you will just sit in one spot longer to get the result you are looking for. for the price cant expect much more. Tillers that get the job done 10 times faster also cost 10 times more. I am happy with this tiller. I hope that my review, makes it so you understand what you are getting before you get it, so you can be happy as I am with whatever it is that you purchase. More to level than for flower beds. Small tillers like this and Earthwise are not intended to dig up an entire yard like this (get a large TroyBuilt or other rear-tine, self-powered tiller for an entire yard) -- they are ideal for raised beds and small gardens. Keep 'em clean and stored inside garage or shed. I can completely till a 4x8 raised bed to 6-8" deep in less than 15 minutes, and a 4'x20' garden strip in about 30-40 minutes. You have to knock down tall grass or weeds to prevent them from clogging the tines as the reviewed discovered.

    First of all, great video! I'm subscribing!
    Secondly I'd like to know your opinion on bare packed dirt/sand? I saw how difficult it went through tall grass but it seems like it would be ideal. I have a couple acres and most of it is lawn/orchard but I was hoping to use it for the bare spots. Maybe a few hundred square feet?
    Lastly, your lawn looks amazing! Why would you want to rototill all of that? Im sure you have your reasons I'm merely curious.
    Thanks again for an amazing video.

    • @shawspeaks8252
      @shawspeaks8252  3 года назад +1

      Thank You Guvna... To answer your question... once the soil is broke up once this thing has no problem... hard packed dirt give it a minute to work and it will get through it just takes a lot of time... a few Hundred square feet sounds like a lot... as for you question about where I am tilling. I made the area into a wildflower bed. it saves on gas from not having to cut the area and it gives you a low maintenance area that looks amazing... last year it came out great and I gave out free flowers to neighbors and friends... My neighbors all came out and picked flowers last year. Looking forward to this year... the first 3 flowers have already came in.... Hi. thanks for this review. How did you get this tiller so cheap? $110! That's a steal. It was $134 on Amazon today. Mind the cords bud and stay healthy. Covid is running crazy here.

    I never leave reviews but I felt the urge too. Infact, I think this may be the first review I've ever left. Anyways, I've never used a tiller and am sick of hand tilling everything. This review was not only helpful, but I enjoyed watching it all the way through, so thank you :) I do have a question you may be able to answer. My garden is pretty close to my driveway and has some rocks every year when hand tilling it. Do you know how this tiller will handle that? I would hate for it to break in the first few uses due to a careless error on my part

      First off thank you for watching, and your comment made my day. I think this little thing will be able to handle anything you tilled by hand. It brings the rocks up to the top of the soil. I have found so many rock I never knew were there. I would not run it in a rock bed, but if its soil with rocks in it it should not be a problem. It seems to be built pretty well. I have had no problems with mine or with the way it performs. Once again thanks for watching. I am so happy I could be one of the few comments you leave. You just made this guy very, very happy. it was much needed in this crazy time we are in. I hope you and those you love stay safe. Wow thanks.

    Theres a hook on the handle that you can feed your extension cord to, so that way it's less in your way

    I got this tiller. Tines break off far too easily. Had them send me another set and surprisingly they seem thicker and of better quality. Also pulling this tiller is much more effective than allowing it to walk forward. And old belt wrapped around the handles will keep the weak off your arms.
