- The blues phenom shares his straight-ahead approach to burly, blues-rock tones.
Christone "Kingfish" Ingram is currently putting some serious miles in on his tour to support his debut album, Kingfish. Before his show at Songbirds in Chattanooga, Tennessee, “Kingfish” met up with Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger to talk through his rig and display some fiery guitar playing.

I'm from Brazil. Pau Ferro means something like Iron Wood. I worked at Giannini's factory and Pau Ferro was used at the neck of the acoustic guitars. Ps.: São Paulo is the biggest city in Brazil.
Awesome example. Guitars do find us lol exactly like a puppy lol
You should do tiger army!!! They just released a new album. Come on
I believe the neck material they are thinking of is Pau ferro.

"Yes, sir! yes, sir!" His parents must be so proud for having raised a man as polite as he is talented
The guy is just pure goodness. Every time I see an interview with him, I just want to give him a big hug and hang out!
I think thats just how he talks alot of us do but yea hes great
John Mark “that’s just how he talks....” yeah dunce, because that’s how HE WAS RAISED BY HIS PARENTS... wow you’re dumb.
Van peter can you read? “John Mark...” and its “to” not “too.” Dolt.
Van peter get off the internet moron
Chris is a very humble and genuine person. I'm glad to see he's getting some success. He definitely deserves the best.
I can't help but love him for a bunch of reasons! Hope to see him play sometime.
I was just thinking the same..I am listening to him so long, but never heard him talking or so...I am amazed that he is incredible musician and also such a humble person.
Amen, I definitely agree...
@@polarized3386 and whats the problem? Is there any problem if he is fat? He can have an health problem...
Chris is such a genuinely good person! yet a savage.
I’m 3 years older than kingfish and wanna be just like him when I grow up.
Damn
Me at 27 thinking the same here
I'm more than double and am hoping too
Lmao I’m a decade older and I agree
I'm laughing harder than I should be
I love that his favorite strat is from the most affordable series they have. Just kind of encouraging to know for us musicians who cant afford $1200 and up guitars
I like him. No pretense, no ego, no bullshit. He was genuinely excited to talk about his humble little rig.
And this serves as a lesson to many of us. You don’t need a crazy $3,000 handwired boutique amp and a massive pedal board to get sweet, soaring tones. He’ll run a stock mexi strat and an amp that anyone can go buy for $300 - 500 and sound amazing.
Tone is in the hands.
Came here essentially to say this. Everyone buys all this bullshit trying to sound like vintage blues players, when a lot of those guys ripped out riffs on stuff like $80 Corts and solid state amps and cheaper Peavey amps. It comes down to the opinion of guitar player fans versus guitar players.
People should go check out players like James "Guitar Slim" Stephens and real blues players and honestly they could manage getting their points across with a dollar store uke and a set of spoons
Never have I heard someone say "You need a $3000 amp and massive pedal board to sound good" Not once...in over 30 years. There is no lesson here...other than, if you have it, you have it. If you don't, you don't. More often, I see people with everyday rigs making themselves feel better by shooting down top shelf rigs as a waste of money. Ludicrous.
I see the dude that turns shovels and shit into an instrument and it sounds amazing.i also know several dudes that have spent thousands and can't play to save their lives. Kingfish is amazing man.
@@ls6-ss413 Seriously. Why spend hundreds on a drum kit when you can go to good will and buy old pots and pans? Drum kits are overrated. xD
PROTECT THIS MAN AT ALL COSTS
Jason Grace eat shit, meme repeater.

Stop repeating dumb Twitter/RUclips memes at all costs.
He has the magic
Chris appears to have lost a lot of weight. it's great to see him getting healthy.
Tarrell Freeze just thinking the same!
I was just thinking that. makes me happy to see him working on him.
Amen! Thankful to see... I think the sky is the limit for this brother and I hate to see his career cut short or affected n any way because of health issues. God Bless 🙂🙏🏼🙌
@ThePaul Steezo fat or not he rips hard
LOL. Yeah bro he's looking so healthy.
I'd like to point out that he's 20 years old.
I don't matter pretty sure he’s losing weight already , u can tell , look at some older clips
stop saying that im a piece of shit
I’d like to point out I’m 23 and barely learning the E minor blues scale 😔
@steve the cross STFU u toxic piece of shit. If he feels comfortable the way he is then let him be, he's not hurting anyone. I see you're one of those morons that buy into societal pressure and lies that weight = bad. Shame on you, every body is beautiful!!!
@@greyarea1004 i agree he looks slimmer in this clip compared to a year or so ago.
Ingram is the future of the Blues. We're in good hands friends!
True it's like he was born a blues player soul
Humble man..monster player..
1 drive , 1 delay and wah..
Mohd Khairul taking care of business 😊
And he knows how to use them!
The way he says “yes sir” to everyone is just so rad cool and respectful. Kingfish is a great guy.
Well......he's from Mississippi. Parents raise respectful, humble kids in the south..... He obviously never forgot their words.
His momma was A MOMMA

He's the man in Blues! So awesome player!

Bohlinger is the BEST interviewer.. Ingram has GREAT TONE AND PLAYING
Great sounding pickups too!
The interviewer reminds me of Brian from Half Baked. Lol
Well, I still miss Rebecca.
@@tomahoks Yes she was THE BEST.. All these guys except for Bollinger look nervous or stoned and ramble on . ..
She was a PRO and moved along in a smooth method..
First time I've come across a RUclips video where I go through the comments and 'like' every one.
8:19 "Honestly, this not um, it's just a regular pick" That cracked me up LOL!! He seems like a really cool dude
Joe Diorio Jr.
I thought the same. Made me laugh, because that’s exactly what I would’ve answered to the Viking Bohlinger. 🤣
i like the free demo picks i take from guitar center.
How ironic is it when there's a premium pick advertisement in the beginning of the video.
@@ezzong I'm here looking for "pick comments". I talked to Chris and his, (late), mother about a joint investment into a pick that I had invented. I had been turned down by Eric Gales, years before. I can't explain it but It sounds unique but it is not patented. It turned out that pick patents had advanced, so it was unlikely to be patentable. Lately I drew a new four piece model: It's time to hire a patent lawyer, and find partner$. BTW: I advised him to endorse a low end Peavey amp and make it sound great. He was new.
Had the pleasure of meeting this young man and getting a picture with him after his show in Baltimore a few days ago. What a very HUMBLE genuine kind young man. talked with him for a good 15 mins. This kid is what will keep the blues alive for future generations. What a blessing
Where in Bmore did he play?
Man, what a genuine and humble guy and great player! Love it.
Ingram is such a lovable person, and has soul for days, too.
"I use this (Strat) when I'm playing in church".....classic! Kingfish is a boss!
What an amazing player and a truly humble guy. The world needs more Kingfish
20 year old kid with a lot of class and humility.
This is the best rig rundown I've ever seen - so unpretentious yet so much skill.
I need to sell some pedals and practice my guitar.
All these rig rundowns with 10 guitars “mmmm, I don’t even use this one really”, tons of floor pedals, rig pedals, multiple amps, roady doing the rundown, my man Kingfish outplaying everyone out here with gear out of a Pawn Shop
Me too
What you selling, anything cool?
Not only is he a super talented musician, he's a nice young man!
Love the guy, glad that some youngsters are keepin' the blues alive. Mad respect for Kingfish from Russia.
I laugh when I see these guys with a tons of pedals and sound not even a fraction of the good that Kingfish sounds!!!
What? 2 pedals??? What a magic man! What a tone!
Plus: what a feeling!!
Kinda like Keef Richards, he just likes to go straight into his bassman combo. The only time he has used a pedel was in satisfaction.
😂😂😂🤙🏼👌your right
@@Jonthebard Gonna call bullshit on that. He's just not as pedal happy as a lot of guys.
@@Gloveberg1 he actually said himself in an interview so straight from source so nah, not BS.
@@Jonthebard So he's 76 years old (today actually...lol), has had access to every piece of guitar gear known to man and he's ONLY ever used a pedal on ONE song. Keith can claim whatever he wants but I still call B.S. :)
Great player, great tone, and great sneakers. Look at my boy wearing those fire Jordan IV's.
Killer player. Great singer too. There's life in the old blues yet!
This guy is so humble, yet so powerful with his playing. Definitely one of my favorites. Such a simple set up too. He’s the man!
Humility. Marcus King, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle and Kingfish. New era of guitar heroes and they are all humble, smart and brilliantly talented. A ray of hope in this bullcrap world.
What a gifted and humble young man. Very inspiring.
Beautiful to see modesty and humility in such a talented player. Others should take note. Scarce qualities these days.
He’s so nice and humble when he talks but he plays like a MONSTER. One of the greatest in recent years
he is so humble and fresh i wish him more and more success he deserves it
Love how critical he is of himself. He can make one small mistake that no one would even notice, and he will point it out and go again to instantly try and improve instead of letting it affect him in a negative way. That's a winning mentality right there, his parents should be proud they raised such a dedicated young man. He's the hope for us younger blues fans.
Edit: The man plays in church as well. Big respect.
Great player and proof you don’t need expensive gear to sound amazing. His tone was as good as any of the crazy expensive boutique gear I see on this. I’d love to see you do a rig rundown with A.J. Ghent
I really like it. I just enjoy using modulation as well. A Uni-Vibe, Harmonic or Bias Tremolo, and I’ve got a lot of ground I can cover.
2:39 as a Mexican myself I must say that I'm freaking proud about Kingfish Ingram using that red Fender Stratocaster MIM over any other Strat. A Huevo!
You should be. Fine instruments coming out of Mexico. Jimmy Vaughan also plays MiM, along with a bunch of other pro guys, along with the rest of us of course.
What a nice fella, he's genuinely tickled to be doing this interview, I hope he enjoys all the success coming to him.
Great episode. John Bohlinger - definitely one of the best guitar interviewers.
Kingfish never fails to impress me. This kid is incredible and it's amazing to see an actual young Blues Man existing in today's bubble gum pop smart phone generation.
He always say "sir". He's a very polite and wholesome person. He's now one of my most fave guitar players. More power Kingfish!
He’s unbelievable, yet so humble, which makes me like him even more
if someone deserve the hype one's getting, it's this man ! so much soul in every note ! and that smile !
Chris is such a lovely human and he has a beautiful tone. Beautiful to see young blood keeping the blues alive.
Very honest and humble fella , great player and great musician
A pleasant young man with the world waiting to hear his future! Goodness, gracious.
Love this guy. I can hear him play all day.
What a sweet guy, and a great player. I´ll be sure to check out his stuff.
I love seeing the players who are happy like a kid on his first bike. Too cool.
I love this guy! Such a good-natured, down-to-earth and talented musician! Respectful, humble, polite, and passionate.
Such a great energy. Kingfish is as warm as his guitar tone.
I absolutely love Chris! He is such a cool cat and seems like a guy I could just chill and hang with. Awesome!
I just cannot believe how mild and humble this dude is... so refreshing.
Super polite, humble, genuine 20yr old shows his basic rig and sounds absolutely killer. The future is here guys and it sounds absolutely amazing!
This young man is such of a great player!!! humble...genuine...he`s got soul!!!
At 1:55 when he said "I can get that bluesy crunch-tone", thought I heard him say "bluesy Christone", which sounds about right. This guy IS the real deal: pure, gifted, feel, and tone!
Christone Kingfish Ingram.
Chris seems to be at first glance, to be a young man who was raised by good people.Politeness is taught. The kid can play man!! Best to you Chris.
Not only is this guy a great player, he's a great human being. So polite and humble. So rare.
Thank you for the music, Kingfish! You are amazing!
This young man is brilliant....
Super humble and kind! Great attitude!
Goddamn, Christone is so endearing and genuine, love that dude! So down to earth, such a positive attitude that is so attractive, can't wait to catch a gig! Keep doing your thing brother, nothing but love!
Theres all in this man, humbleness, clapton, hendrix, mr. King and all mixed his own way. I'm really glad to see he got healthier and got better at playing!!!
Wow - I just learned that Chris just graduated from high school...recently. One great player - best of luck to you
I'll never forget the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksdale, MS in 2014. That was one of the first big dates with my wife. I heard this amazing sound coming out of one the clubs so we had to go inside and see who it was. It's was KINGFISH baby! A few years later my wife got tickets to the Experience Hendrix tour at the Orpheum in Memphis. This young man was on the tour and had grown so much musically! He's so talented!
Very humble and kind person king is , every guitarist in the top s gotta respect him
I've been following this kid since he was 16!!! My Facebook bud, Christone!! Such a cool guy!!! #PRODIGY!!!!!
Very humble and talented, I find the greatly gifted are usually the most humble ,he's lost weight too, good to see we want u to be around keeping the blues alive bro.
What a great kid. Unreal player too. Cant wait to hear more from him. I love that purple flamed tele!
i saw Chris at Cal Jam 2018. this man IS A BEAST!!! he literally walks off of the stage into the middle of the crowd and busts out a huge solo. wish you the best of luck Chris!
I had never heard of Kingfish - but how the hell could I not want to dive into his playing after hearing him play here? He sounds _great_! And such a great, down to earth guy, you just have to like him. Thanks for not only showing me his rig but actually introducing me to a great player!
Kid is a MONSTER on gtr....enjoy the dive!
@@138NastyNate Been nice seeing him around Mississippi. Glad he is having success.
Yeah. kid is Awww-ite
Pay attention: this kid is real. He's going to go into blues history.
Listen to his live version of “Empty Promises” and “Hey Joe” and you’ll be blown away
Kingfish has been growing on me. Just a fantastic player with talent and a down to earth guy. I hope i can catch one of his shows sometime! You can definetly hear the BB King and Albert King in him with a hint of Gary Moore. He’s a beast
The world needs more people like kingfish in it.
It’d be a better place
Saw him in Nashville and seeing him again in Denver. Probably one of the best blues guitarist ever
One of the few new players where everything is just smooth, and he's his own dude. The smoothness and perfect manipulation of the strings is really unusual for someone so young.
Love this guy! Such a natural at playing and that spark! He really enjoys the music. It's nice to see players not needing a ton of effects to really shine!
talented, humble, and has the look. hes got the total package.
I love this man/sir. So humble.
had a smile on my face through the whole interview love the energy this guy emits.
Awesome phrasing and vibrato. 👏
This man is a future legend. So humble and appreciates where he is. Nice to hear a simple rig.
You can't spell "Christone" without "Tone".
Cringe
what a refreshing interview ... I can't decide who was more relaxed , JB or the Kingfish .
made me smile ....
He makes me excited. His playing, his personality, he just seems like the nicest guy.
I used to cringe any time I saw John Bollinger on these Rig Rundowns. He came off like such a goofy sumbitch ALL the time, almost like he was doing a parody of himself.
Over time, and especially after hearing him play, I have really come to appreciate the man for who he is...a guy who has the best damn job on Earth and knows how to love EVERY second of it. He’s not pretending...he really IS a goofball, but it’s not a front. He’s just a guy who loves what he does and is unapologetic for it (and rightfully so!).
This is one of my favorite rundowns. Christone is just about of of the most genuinely sweet guys in the biz. His mama raised him right! I can’t wait to see him live... That boy straight up attacks those strings. His passion for playing music is plain to see and the fact that he loves to share that passion with the world is a gift to us all.
Absolute BADASS! Been following Kingfish for years, I love the spirit he keeps alive while pushing the music forward into the future. Super cool guy!
Love everything about this amazing guy! What a talent, I look forward to hearing much more of him!
I love every interview with Kingfish. Just a real and humble guy. So rare in the music industry. Love a good Mississippi player. Simple rig. The tone is all in his hands.
This man is so soulful both voice wise and guitar wise. I hope he gets in shape so he doesn't have a short life, I want him to live for a long time and bless us with his blues!
Christone is a breath of fresh air... love this...good player, great music and most of all a great person.
Some mentioned his weight. I think he's extremely heavy...not in lbs. In musical skill. Most definitely!
Kids gonna be a legendary blues figure long after I'm dead....I don't hear anybody bitching about BB. Kings weight. He's young he's gonna be know for playin not weighin!
super heavy
this kid is such a gentleman. not only a fantastic player but seems to be a very good person. so glad he continues to gain more popularity. God bless brother!
I saw him live a few months ago and he was fantastic, I have loved his music ever since.
Damn what a great interview. Respect to both.

I had to learn right handed. Pain in the ass it was
You're much loved Kingfish! Stay humble and expressive on the neck. Peace!
Love to see the passion and excitement showing off all his gear true musician loves his music and it shows
such a simple, not too overpriced rig. Nice to see someone sounding so good and not being so snobby about overpriced equipment
Wildly gifted player and amazingly kind & cool human being!
Very humble and talented that combo always cuts threw the him..AWESOME Gentlemen!!
Man Kingfish is the #1 blues man on earth right now IMHO. Love you big man keep the blues alive.
