- This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the Marvel Comics character "Forge." From his early training by Naze as a shaman with the Cheyenne Indian tribe, rarely using his considerable magical abilities in lieu of his unique mutant inventive genius, being able to perfectly visualize every component of any advanced mechanical device that he can imagine, creating a cybernetic right leg and hand for himself after losing them while serving in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, proving to be one of most inventive genius minds of the Marvel Universe, forming a strong relationship with the mutant Storm aka Ororo Munroe, joining forces with superhero teams like the X-Men, X-Force, and X-Factor, as well as founding and leading the New Mutants team, to owing his sanity to the telepathic intervention of Cable aka Nathan Summers; Let's take a look at this effortlessly brilliant Marvel superhero, and the rare Native American character whose superpower is his inventive creativity. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

Always loved Forge. He’s from an older generation (we know time in comics is weird) but he’s a vet in all aspects. The issue where he asked Storm to marry him, and she hesitates.. man, that’s tough. He walks away. I always liked the outlier characters like Cypher, Nightcrawler, Skin, or Beast.
@andrew Well with Storm that comes as no surprise.She did marry Black Panther only to end up divorcing him awhile later.Even though she still loves him.So Forge is probably better off without her.😛

I always felt like Forge has been under appreciated. The X-MEN have always needed him to build weapons on the battlefield at the last second.
I remember the 90's X Men cartoon where he kept Wolverine's skeleton in a regeneration tank. Ive always wondered if Wolverine fully regenerated

@grimlock716 In all likelihood no.Remember Wolverine has a healing factor.He does not need a regeneration tank.In one issue of the Civil War story arch.He was blown up by the mutant Nitro.With nothing left but his adamantium skeleton and his brain.But he still regenerated his entire body.But not even a healing factor can keep someone alive forever.So Forge must have collected it for study after Wolverine met his final fate in the future.
Perhaps if there is still one cell left of wolverine he can regrow himself
I own the series. If you remember in the show wolverine's healing ability was weaker. They'd bandage his ribs and head. It took him hours to heal. In 2009 cartoon he was anatomically updated to heal fast.

Early 90's X-Men had some of the best story arcs and art. And a lot of Forge.
One of those power sets that every kid wants. Powerful enough to be constantly useful but not unhuman in anyway. What i like to call meta power sets.

Forge's ability is almost omega level when you think about it - he can conceive and build any machine he can think of. He could build a gun that warped reality if he chose to, create a time machine, build a phone that never dies...etc.

I always liked Forge growing up and thought he was under utilized.
back in my elementary days, forge was one of my favorite mutant back then. Wolverine wasn't even on my list since there are a lot more mutants that is greater than him. I only started to forget about forge when there no other stories about him when I was young. Wolverine was only glorified by fans of the movie series and arcade games IMO.

He's the mutant equivalent of Tony Stark
He is Tony Stark but 20 times faster at building things. To him, creating and repairing new technology is as easy as breathing.
Tony is a genius though. Forge isn't. He doesn't know how the devices he design works. He's useless.

No, he is an inventive genius with superhuman mechanical intuition (Mechanical/electronics/physics/engineering/designs/programming/cybernetics etc).
He sometimes has to take his designs apart just to understand how he built them.
He certainly knows how they work; that is what mechanical intuition is.
Tony is a scientific genius and is a super genius inventive mechanical engineering prodigy.
Tony is more intelligent/smarter but they are on the same level when it comes to inventive/ mechanical abilities.

Yes and no, initially when he is inventing, his brain is subconsciously auto- computing/creating/arranging/designing organizing/analyzing electromechanical systems. Initially, he doesn't know how he built it but after he takes his designs apart he instinctively understands it.
Example, if they gave both Tony and Forge an engineering question to solve or design. Forge will come up with the correct answer or schematics almost immediately but would not fully know how he got the answer or design, he will have to work backwards to get the logical step by step solutions while Tony will use his intelligence, creativity and engineering skills to solve/design it through logical steps. So Forge's inventive method is the reverse of Tony's inventive method.
Forge has superhuman/genius inventive intuition; he can visualize/perceive mechanical energy in a system (kinetic or potential energy). He can think of a mechanical function and his mind subconsciously creates the best schematic designs. His mind works like a supercomputer or machine when he is creating things. He can look at a design and instinctively sense the flaw in the design.
Tony on the other hand has super-genius level intelligence, scientific and genius mechanical aptitude: problem solving, creativity, pattern recognition, enhanced memory and intuition. He can make a design 100 times more efficient and smaller.
Also you have to keep in mind that forge did not go to engineering school while Tony graduated at MIT with dual degree in physics and electrical engineering.
Think of Tony and Forge the same coin but of opposite ends when it comes to inventing. Both have built time machines.
Ability Ranking:
Mechanical intuition/aptitude: Forge.
Electrical engineering: Tony.
Engineering analysis: Draw.
Engineering Design: Forge (without computer aid).
Scientific aptitude: Tony.
Stylistic/Creative/Futuristic design: Tony.
Computer science/robotics: Tony.
Cybernetics/biomechanics: Draw.
Computing/Pattern recognition: Forge.
Creative Visualization: Forge.
Intelligence: Tony.
Overall Inventive ability: Draw.

Definitely one of the most underrated mutants.
I'm currently reading new Mutants vol 1 (1987) 1-100. Issue 66 is when Forge appears as a powerful sorcerer fighting Magik (illyana) Xavier/Magneto lead the team in vol 1..must be vol 2 or 3.
Forge is one of my favorite mutants besides cable because they don't really rely just on one solo ability they're like the Swiss Army knife of bad asses
I remember watching the cartoons thinking Forge was useless, but he's definitely one of the most powerful mutants.
In Alpha Flight Forge also Initillay Helped Box build His powered armor.
And Later on Became Box for a while.

Forge may be one of the most powerful mutants around, if he can think of it, he can naturally build it, that includes superweapons, time machines and more, this makes him absurdly powerful, as he can effectively engineer virtually anything.

Damn, I remember he was the first mutant I actually thought had the coolest lowkey powerset. He's the perfect example of a character simply held back by lack of popularity but on the flip side I don't think he'd be as cool if everyone knew who he was.

Forge should work for the SCP Foundation. Sadly, the SCP Foundation would consider mutants as anomalous and try to contain them.
Forge is one of my favorite mutant characters, don't ask me why, lol jk.
