Doing a battery replacement right now on my 2018 Edge. Thanks for the video. There is a procedure in the owner's manual (Pages 284-286 on the 2018 models) that you need to follow to allow the engine and electrical system to 'relearn' the proper engine settings (like for fuel management). Mostly requires driving the car for 1/2 hour or so, but DO read the directions.
Currently have edge 18 titanium and need replacement. Going to read the manual but they usually just say "go to your nearest Ford dealership" but I'll give this a shot. Thanks
It’s a shame you don’t live in a town with a parts store that: 1: actually had a knowledgeable guy 2: he keeps the obdII to cigarette lighter battery memory cord behind the counter that plugs into your type car for battery changes. (Said cord is sold at the store for 25$) 3: guy would be happy to change your Edge battery in about 10 min. 4: there’s a Sonic next door, where you could get some ice cream while he changes it. (Maybe some for him too) 5: he ignores company suggestion to deny replacing difficult batteries (for ice cream usually) 6: he makes pitiful wages and people think he’s dumb….. * super good video
You can reset the BMS by doing the following:g 1. Power up the ignition -DO NOT start the car 2. Once everything has stabilized - Flash High Beams 5 Times 3. Pump Brakes 3 Times Battery light should flash a few times then go steady. DONE
The BMS won't reset by itself. It's a clock that keeps the time and date of installation which it uses to adjust not only the amount of charge based on voltage but age of the battery. It adjust all electronics to perform based on that algorithim. Spark, Alternator out put, how your transmission shifts, your windows, locks, headlights operate. It will over charge, burning up the new battery and cause a reduction in MPG. Walmart loves you.
@@ThezNutzGarage Nothing if you buy from them Motorcraft OEM. Batteries have an expected lifetime of 5-6 years from manufacture. I replaced my 2016 OEM battery with OEM . That’s another parameter the computer goes by, (type) ie we,t AGM. The Dealer uses FORSCan to adjust the BMS.
Is reconnecting negative first ok? Everything I have read says the opposite? I’m to the point of reconnecting and the positive on… negative ground sparks when barely touching (freaked out girl putting in first battery because ford Edge “difficult” batteries plus wouldn’t do it 😡) thanks!!
I just always add the negative last so if the ratchet hits any metal on the car it will not throw a spark. If you connect the positive last and you accidentally hit some metal on the car it will shoots sparks. That is just how I was thought.
@@ThezNutzGarage oh fun fact, the city I live in is where that 27 is built in the 30. My grandfather actually had retired from that engine plant many many moons ago

Always spray the post after installing the cables. You will have charging issues. I see it all the time.

Hahaha! I need to come see that guy one day.
Thanks. Going to give it a try tomorrow in the freezing cold. I appreciate your video.
Good luck.

So what would this service run at a dealership or shop. Just reset this clock?

Thanks this helped.
Great Video!! Thanks!! BTW...what part of the Volunteer State are you from?? 😉
West TN
I always replace the edges battery with the bigger 48 battery which moves the lock out to the other hole.
I might do that next time.
Did you have to go to the ford place to reset
I didn’t but you can call and ask the dealership how much it cost.
Dude I have an 18 sport same color and wheels. 40k on the clock and runs a 12.01 muncie dragway.
Love that car.
