God I love Nerd Soup, still want season 6-8 revisited for game of thrones.
At least season 6 since that's when they first started.
Beau Oliver impression is really good
Very excited to see these movies and grateful to see the buzz it's bringing to theaters in general
On Hollywood Accounting: I have a friend who is a accounting manager on movie sets, specifically Netflix productions recently but it's more like contractor work like all Hollywood seems to be. I also work in finance myself so I feel like I have a good insight into this.
What a lot of people don't understand is how incredibly quickly all of these productions are put together and then eventually torn down. It's as if an entire corporation is built in a couple weeks with executives, support admin, food folks, etc etc. An entire companies worth of people and resources in such a short time span means corners are being CUT. Everything is a break neck pace (as you're trying to keep up with invoices coming in and classifying them on the fly.
In normal accounting, most purchases and expenditures need approval from multiple levels of managers and controllers, trying to keep things within budget, because they know they'll get a review in 6 months/a year and it's very important to their bonuses/raises that they were able to stay under budget.
The extreme pace of productions, along with the dire need for invoices to be approved RIGHT THEN means that there is almost no oversight into how money is spent on the department level. No checks, no balances, no responsibility.
Even established companies have mistakes made in the books and they're not usually caught for several months afterward. They can then be corrected. Movie sets are making these same "mistakes" and more but it's simply never caught because several months later the movie is out of production. Folks you could ask for clarification have likely moved onto other jobs. In this type of situation it's understood accuracy is impossible and many things are brushed under the rug.
This leads to less accountability for everyone on the money side and they are heavily incentivised to report higher costs, to keep from having to pay out on profit. Simply put Profit=revenue - costs. If you create costs to spend your revenue on then you don't have to pay actors/directors/producers as much because they generally only get paid if the movie turns a profit.
Summary: Mistakes are common, the people paid to catch the mistakes aren't incentivised to do so and the people who benefit from the "mistakes" are in charge of everything with hardly any oversight whatsoever. Movie productions are like a sketchy startup company.
Definitely Watch Barbie. We need more experimental movies like Barbie
Please do a succession revisited it would be soo sick
Now's a good time to start a segment called "Teddy on the Streets" and have him interview actors and writers on strike.
Sunday morning AM Radio Beau
Love this podcast and always will! Thank you Beau and Aaron
Finally
Boys let’s goo. This pod started out like Shaq with the magic just throwing heaters. Then this year capped by an abysmal bear season 2 review was Shaq with the celts. Maybe we’re about to get lakers Shaq.
BARBENHEIMER SLAPPPED SO HARD
That wasn’t a Beau impersonation that was a Rueben impersonation
Now this might be a good time to finish that MCU retrospective you guys started years ago lol
Hey Nerd Soup I know that for the most part you still have some excitement about superhero movies. Recently I watched the pilot for My Adventures with Superman, did a discussion and all that, and I was very pleased with the show. Just suggesting it because I feel you might like it! Also can’t wait to hear about your thoughts on Invincible season 2
Another good soup lads ❤
The audio quality of the podcasts has really taken a hit, any reason why?
Barbie had some really touching, poignant moments about the female experience. I really enjoyed that. Its a good movie for a mom to see with her older daughter. Girls who havent reached the age where they are no longer interested in dolls wouldn't appreciate it. It is, absolutely a chick flick. What I didnt like was that there was definitely alot of "Men vs. Women" themes. I am all for a good movie about female empowerment but we dont have to belittle men to make that point. Unfortunately the movie went there repeatedly and I was pretty bummed about that. The ending sequence with Rhea Perlman was brilliant tho and to me, brought it back to what the movie should have spent MOST of its time focusing on, which is the joys of womanhood, and what we bring to the world.
This is beaus flu game
I would love to see yall do an anime podcast. If i was to suggest some:
Death note
One piece
One punch man
Beserk
Monster
That’s some good soup
When I have to pee I just set my phone up on my light jacket I always bring in and record a little video.
Legend of Vox Machina guys. Get on it!
Going back to review old movies? Ummm yes.
The "re-review" of GOT. Let's do this!!
Wont Dune Part 2 still blow everything this year? I believe
@@dangermossI think it'll be a short comedy
Did not enjoy mash playing beaux role felt weird lmao
just by the duration of oppenheimer and barbie, barbie wins in the box office
Wait, is this finally when we will get Rush Hour Trilogy reviews? cmon guys, do it.....
Advocating for people in the entertainment industry while also promoting VPNs is ironic.
As someone who watched both movies, Oppenheimer was way better. Not that Barbie was bad, it had a lot of great points, but had equally shit points in it, Oppenheimer was just all good
Totally agree!! It's almost like they were trying to have two very strong themes at once and in the end it kinda felt like they were competing. Overall, I liked it. Haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, but I'm confident I'll love that one.
"you would pick up a barbie, you would make sure no one's looking but you would play with that as a little kid"
aaron I'm sure this is just a coincidence but I think you should know this is literally one of the things that made me realize I was a trans girl LOL
Only seen Barbie so far but you gotta give Gerwig and Baumbach originality points.
the whole white men who changed the world during WWII narrative is so incredibly played out.
Obviously Oppenheimer does super well... The fk is wrong with ya hahaha
Everyone who makes movies wants to be like Christopher Nolan bud, she does not have the talent to back it up, few do.
Excited for two mediocre movies. Hollywood really must be flailing bad
You’ve got a hilarious comment history on this channel
Oppenheimer is great but its pretty long.
I wouldn't see Barbie because its fluff.
