Peridot says that “Lapis’ like flying around”
So every Era 1 Lapis has wings
If you look closely or at all the wings aren't attached to the gem, it only comes out of it taking the spot of a gem weapon.
I have a theory(maybe more a hypothesis) that aquamarine gems are era 2 lapis gems. Peridot said that homeworld has a resource shortage implying that the reason she doesn't have powers and probably why she is small. Gems of the same kind seem to share the same shape of the gem(like amethysts, pearls, rubies, sapphires, and some others)(jaspers don't seem to fit that describtion though, but then again his show isn't consistent, and that is why my theory might not be valid). So....our lapis is era 1 gem, she is blue, she is quite tall, has water wings and her gem is tear shape. Aquamarine - she is also blue, she is so smol, also has water wings and her gem is also tear shaped, but I don't know for certain if she is era 1 or 2. Aquamarine doesn't seem to have any special abilities (like lapis' control of water). Unless perfect memory is considered an ability, but lapis seem to have it too (she was trapped in a mirror for a reason, and I believe that reason is lapis gems have perfect memories plus she mimiced Steven while in the mirror to a t). So ether aquamarine is underresoured era 2 lapis, or lapis has 2 special abilities. What a dumb conclusion I came to...

And that's actually better than Era 2; because the resource crisis on Homeworld requires Era 2 gems to be made with fewer abilities and given limb enhancers to compensate.
Then again, our great and lovable Peridot does have Metalconesis. So, who knows?

Except we know that Era 1 gems have a HIGHER status than Era 2 gems, because they weren't created during the resource crisis and thus have their full set of powers.
Corralation does not equal causation. It is merely coincidence that this particular Lapis' gem is in the middle of were their wings form. They sprouted from her back, were I imagine all Lapis's wings sprout when summoned. Remember, it was established in episode one that a gem glows when summoning something, so it makes it look like our Lapis' wings are attached to her gem when they are really just medial to her shoulder blades. Her gem location in relation to the wings was probably done just because it looked cool. Which it did.
Also, Peridot did not know what rain was either, so Navy probably work primarily on Homeworld or never stayed on other planets long enough to notice weather patterns. Or she was just playing stupid to seem cute and innocent, full well knowing the Rubies are seen as not very bright, thus luring everyone into an even deeper sense of false security. Oh, wait...
But it would be interesting to see how other Lapis Lazulis behave and how they view our Lapis now.
So I saw fan art of an off colour lapis with literal water for arms. Maybe there's something to do with how the Lapis develops themselves? Or maybe it's a choice based on personality: Lapis wanted freedom, so she has wings. It might also be able to be said for Aquamarine, as Aqua seemed very freely mean spirited even though she worked under the diamonds. When Eyeball obsessed over getting a pearl, maybe that's the internal dialogue of Aqua; freedom in her high ranking to do as she pleases (sort of).
She had wings long before she was trapped. In flash backs, she had wings landing on Earth and when she was trying to escape a Bismuth.

Going by the fanart, maybe wings are already a solid part of the body for Lapises, and depending on their gemstone placement a part of their body is water. Our Crystal Gems Lapis just happened to have her wings be water because of her gemstone on her back.

No, other Lapis's and Aquamarines show that all their wings are like that. It doesn't matter the gem placement.
Alissa Shelly this idea reminds me of lapis from houseki no Kuni, that lapis has completely liquid arms that she can transform into whatever. That’s just what I thought of

With that though, I can't see Lapis Lazulis being aristocratic gems since they're literally getting their hands dirty like blue collar workers. Their service is really important, but I couldn't see it as being considered "high class". Middle class makes more sense to me, like an architect.
If you look hard enough, you can see that lapis's wings dont actually come from her gem, they're just very close to it, so lapis's wings work the same as aquamarines

I feel like other Lapis’s would probably be quite joyful and fun (it would make sense because of how we see our Lapis act around Steven) and maybe overly trusting, hence why Lapis took Blue Diamond and the rest of gemkind “betraying” her by treating her as a rebel so hard
it's fitting that this came up in my recommended right after the new steven universe opening came out... with two new lapises!

Well, with the barn ruins and the house ruins both being near beach city;
At least all the currently active crystal gems will have a unified base rather than 2 separate ones.
Perhaps they can update the Gem Temple so Lapis and Peridot can have their own rooms.
(Maybe Bismuth as well, but she's still got the Forge if nothing else.)
I think her gem shinning when she makes her wings appear, the same way amethysts gem shines when she pulls out her weapon. Because her wings are a prop/weapon from inside the gem.

Lapis could just be summoning the wings, like how other gem’s gems glow when summoning weapons. It could just be that her gem placement makes it appear like the water wings come out of the gem.

Honestly Lapis's personality is so inconsistent. But I think a typical Lapis Lazuli personality is elegant, soft, and self-conscious in some way.
'Little blue gremlin' THAT 👏 IS 👏 ACCURATE! And, about the gem placement theory, I think that makes sense, as both Peridot and Pearl are somewhat brainy gems, and their gems are placed on their foreheads, and Eyeball is kinda tough, and her eye-gem is sorta like an eye patch, like a idk, weathered, cranky old man might wear after some sort of injury. Plus, Navy, Steven and Rose are pretty goofy, and having their gems on their belly buttons kinda represents that.
I speculate that the reason the Crystal Gems took out Lapis was because they feared she was going to take all the water away, thus killing off the organic life and rendering the rebellion pointless.
With future we finally see what lapis was like before being in the mirror when she said that the arrogant lapises reminded her of herself
I’d love to see a Lapis on Lapis confrontation. Just see what happens when you stick our Lapis in a room with another “normal” Lapis.

Just some mineralogy info: a lot of the Earth-born gems are elements that don't emerge on Earth until after life emerges. Peridots, if I remember correctly, are second stage minerals, and they don't need biology to be created. Peridot in the show was made on Homeworld. Diamonds are Ir minerals. Zircon in the Trial mentioned that she'd been serving the court for millennia. Zircons are one of the hardiest gems. Idk about their mineral formation needs though. Ugh I could talk about this for days.

I wonder if all lapis lazuli control water. If they are to terraform they would need to manipulate different elements. I think lapis all have gems on their backs, but some can control different elements.
Peridot says in the episode "Barn Mates", that Lapis Lazuilis are partial to water and flying, so I'm not sure about that. But I agree that it would make sense for them to manipulate more then just water.
Raspberry Beryl perhaps since peridot was an era 2 peridot her technology and knowledge was limited compared to era 1 peridots that were made using more resources, and therefor they have more knowledge.

Peridot also didn't know about rain(or lightning or storms). It's almost as if the show is saying Homeworld gems in general aren't familiar with weather phenomena, which... makes no sense at all for a culture with ancient beings that conqure alien worlds.
Phesheya Bhembe They probably just haven't been taught these things since they're low class gems and it doesn't have anything to do with their purpose. The higher class gems are most likely very much aware if all that.

Well, a successful Gem colony doesn't appear to have much stable land or a planet core, let alone the water to form a water cycle. Maybe Lapises actually get rid of it all. The Kindergartens can't be in danger of flooding and erosion, after all.

They probably only arrive on come leyes homeworld colonies and never see planets before
I'm assuming other lapis's have different kinetic abilities. Like ones revolving terraforming. Lazuli has hydrokinesis, others might have geokinesis, and etc!
Aquamarine didn’t need a back gem to fly, so I think Lapis would work just like an Aquamarine.

Well, on technical terms, we don’t know if the water COMES from her gemstone. It may just be coincidence that Lapis’s gemstone is on her back, where her wings sprout.
Personally, I like to imagine the wings on a Lapis gem are always on the back regardless of where the gem is. But that's just me. And this was a pretty neat video - something else to ponder while waiting for the show to dig itself out of yet another huge ass hiatus. Awesome video Slice!

In the episode mirror gem lapis says that they knew she was in there the whole time and didn’t bother to wonder who she used to be. I think the gems are so used to other gems being made into things they don’t think twice about it, they’re probably just glad it’s not them.

Her wings are WATER BASE. So ANY LAPIS could have it. We know gems can hold items in their gems. She simply HAD water in it. Other gems will also hold water and they simply come out when they needed. Have we even seen Aquamarine take out her wings? Not just jold them down, like actually summon them like Lapis did at any point.

This wasn't about Garnet and Pearl. This was for the Aquamarines and Lapises. We see Aquamarines have water bases wings and it is known all Lapises are used for Terraforming.
Lapis' wings wouldn't come out of her gem. Yes, this one would, but a different lapis' wings would probably still come out of their back.

Well her wings don’t come from her gem they come from her back beside her gem
When a gem summons their weapon or anything in their gem it produces light, therefore it could be that it's only lapis summoning the power of her wings which just happens to be on her back. Perhaps that's how aqua marine did that as well.
i don't know why, but lapis is so amazing to me, something about her just seems right, mysterious yet not, i dunno, i wanna see much much more of her!!

I think the terraforming thing is them legit building the necessary parts to create life so that the world there on is tested to see if it’s good for colonzation or/and to just start the colonzation

It could also be that wings are best to come from a certain place on the back for flying gems, thus for out Lapis, it looks that her wingd come from her gem.

Well there probably are more Lapis's on Homeworld, but considering there was a lowering in supplies since Era 2 started, the only powers they would have are Water Wings, which is apparent when consider that Aquamarine has both Water Wings but her Zero Point Energy weapon thing is part of her appearance rather than being I side her gem, plus Aquamarine's weapon is more technical than Era 1 weapons

Random point. Terraforming includes atmosphere and weather in some descriptions of planetary terraforming. It's highly possible that during terraforming the water that would normally become clouds and rain get suppressed or reduced as all the water is moved or even removed from the colony. Certainly the finalized colony depictions are unlikely to have water on them anywhere.
Maybe not all lapis lazulis control water. They each have powers relating to different kinds of terrain?

I think our lapis lazuli’s personality relates to her gem placement in the way Tohru describes Kyo in the anime “Fruits Basket.” When she says “maybe it’s on your back” she explains that if he were a rice ball he would see himself as plain and not special, but since his plumb is on his back he can’t see how special he is

I'm pretty sure Lapis dropping the barn on Blue Diamond easily quallifies as the most badass thing any Gem has ever done.
I would be interested in seeing other Lapis Lazulis, because like you said, it'd be interesting to see just how different OUR Lazuli is from them.
I imagine Lapiz’s role on terraforming planets is like common erosion proceses here on Earth. Since gemkind is created because of organics, Lapiz Lazulis accelerates the natural processes to make fertile lands, and since they can fly across galaxies, they also transport water between colonies or mining it from asteroids. The great canyon was and is still being carved by water and that is by a ridiculous amount of time, also a lot of cutting processes on the industry need or use water, having a Lapiz Lazuli might just accelerate the process to, as the song says, terraform.
I would like to see that too as well as those Garnets that Blue name dropped
I honestly love the representation of lapis, she's a loner, creative and doesn't quite understand how to express her emotions but she isn't any less loved by the family she's been brought to now. Even then, she has her faults and she regrets her mistakes but she is still being allowed to grow with them. I'm not sure, but I just see a lot to relate to with her and I'm glad the crew made her.

If we take the way diamonds make gems, we can assume how Lapis Lazuli gems are in personality. Their blue and occasionally gold coloring implies Blue and Yellow are the ones they derive from. From there, you could imply they're emotional but militant entities, doing their job as ordered but having something of a heart to them
