hey im curious why does Z1e do so badly whenits basically the 7840u? is it just Asus's unoptimized versions of drivers? if I install the 780m drivers on the ally will it be the same as a 7840u device? got both the 7840u Win4 and a Rog Ally so curious now.

So all devices were using the same newest drivers. On official papers, both the 7840U and Z1 Extreme are identical both for CPU and GPU except for AI cores that Z1 Ex doesn't have and which are not supposed to really have that big an impact on performance if at all. With that said, Z1 Ex almost always consistantly performs less than 7840U but the gap of how much goes anywhere from just about nothing (eg. less than 1%) to little (5-10%).
The most plausible reason for that would be ram in some cases, most likely drivers and AMD tuning for others. I have a theory on why that is that I explain near the end of my Legion Go review but that's just based off of corporate logic and AMD trying to capitalize on selling chips at a loss to huge manufacturers such as Lenovo and ASUS, and possibly even Valve.
They'd want Lenovo and ASUS to pay for driver updates which seem to happen way less often than AMD actually releasing updates. It might be interesting to retest some benchmarks but this time with latest AMD driver vs latest ASUS (AMD licensed) drivers, I wouldn't be surprised if the gap with the 7840U closed drastically in many case scenarios.

@@GameTechTalk I’d definitely be interested to see how the drivers fair and how different they act with the same hardware in the same scenerios.
I also saw that people been having issues with the Z1e Asus drivers and windows together with the latest drivers so people haven’t been using them

30 fps is fine with me on the 7840U Win Mini. Just ordered one and looking forward to testing it. Curious if you've ever tested Lossless Scaling's frame generation on the Win Mini. If this game can hold a stable 30 fps then it should be able to do 60 fps with frame gen.

I have, and I tested it on this title as well as Horizon that I benched before it. The thing is Lossless Scaling will work regardless, that is great, but at low fps like that? It looks like you turned the "soapbox" frame feature on a TV. Movement is drastically blurred and it introduces visual anomalies. Some games it works really well, others, not so much. Still I always recommend trying it for yourself, you might like it. As for performance, it gave me approximately 25-40% more FPS but again, all the downsides that came with it.
      Cheers! :)

@@GameTechTalk yea, it does work better in some games. I guess I'll just use my oculink eGPU with this game. Also curious to hear what your thoughts are on GPD excluding the oculink port. Not sure if you use it but for me it's the reason why I decided on the 7840U instead of the 8840U

As the saying goes: "some things gotta give". Personally, I wasn't too keen on Win Mini not having a USB-A. I would've preferred 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A and 1 Oculink.
However, I ordered an Oculink eGPU solution 2 days ago because I would think it works much better than eGPU through USB-C for playing locally on the device (versus monitoring out) as you have immediate lane access. All that to say that I see value both ways but I think USB-A will ultimately serve more people than the Oculink connector.@@FS-zt6tm

I have around 8 hours into it on my win mini. Not the best experience but I can make do. Important is to activate anti lag. It is amazing game but lots of optimisation is needed.
Hopefully they will release FSR 3 frame generation soon. That should make it more playable

Well if FSR 3.1 works as intended, we might have a far more viable solution for "below 60" frame generation solutions. Time will tell, and there is always Lossless Scaling which works, but yeah, the visual "impairement" is a bit harsh. Thanks for engaging! :)

@@GameTechTalk lossless works horribly for me. Mind sharing your settings?
Maybe it's because of the win minis portrait display

It probably is "horrible" for me too, we just used different words for identical results. I just go for the Lossless Scaling presets for both scaling and frame generation. I don't touch nothing else, though sometimes I remove the scaling. Overall it's very much a hit and miss but on Dogma 2, I'd say it was a miss through and through.@@MobileTechGaming
