Also, write down what you’re feeling and noticing about yourself because it is gradual you may not even notice the changes but people around you might. I tried Atomoxetine and it gave me horrible anxiety so that’s my psychiatrist recommended Ritalin and that’s where I saw the most improvement with my emotions, right away. I’m on 5 mg to start out because I do have anxiety and stimulants can make anxiety worse. But talk with your doctor and see what they recommend.

This is such a wonderful video to share.
I was diagnosed at 32, a little over a year ago, and "life-changing" is absolutely an understatement for how much my ADHD medication (Vyvanse) saved my life.
I started organizing myself and setting routines and schedules right away, and a lot of it has been figuring out how to make myself the most efficient, while also avoiding burnout.
The one thing I'll say is that, medication *alone* doesn't change your life. You still have to implement strategies to keep yourself on track. The ADHD is still there, it just can't fight off your methods of dealing with it as much. I have a task list on my phone with things I need to do daily, weekly, monthly, etc, because I'm still not going to remember to drink water or brush my teeth unless it's on a list I can look at every day. The difference is that when I see "brush teeth" or "load dishwasher" on my list, I don't think, "Ugh, not now. That's too much." I can just do it. THAT'S the amazing thing. The mental wall that held me on the couch or made me start up a video game to avoid the work is gone. I can actually *choose* what I want to do moment to moment, and then follow through on that choice!
I wish everyone who dealt with the same issues I had would seek treatment. You'll think, "I'm probably just lazy" or "It probably won't even help me," but I promise you, seeking treatment is so, so worth it. I NEVER thought my life could be this way.
Take the leap and talk to someone, people. There are even sites online that will give you an assessment and start a treatment plan, without ever having to go in and see a doctor in person. Because I know how much we all hate appointments.

    • @maliniatb
      @maliniatb 15 дней назад

@@VoVina111I mean you can try it and see for yourself. It's hars to explain the "side effects" for me.. I feel like I'm faster too hot or too cold/like the management of my blood/heart system is a bit off... but for now its worth it... and it's not only that you can do the things you planned to do: I manage to go to bed not that late anymore and have a somewhat good rhythm, after stopping caffeine I actually was AWAKE in the morning.. can you believe it?! Waking up and not being like "meehhh.. but bed........" sure I don't get up immediately but it used to take me up to an hour or even more...
It's easier to eat healthy, to cook a meal. I was eating super unhealthy before.. I had a small setback now but I'm going to get back on track 💪 so it's definitly no magic! But it stops those negative thought spirals (for me)
But also be aware, that it's not for everybody, but I'm sure that there is something that can help you especially in combination with therapy (I'd really advice to not solely rely on meds). So an appointment at a psychologist could definitely help!

Vyvanse was not the medication for me. It lasted in my system for about 4 maybe 5 hours. After that, I would become a bit depressed and angry. It also helped me a bit TOO MUCH with my social anxiety. I was talking to the point of being annoying. I felt miserable. Because of this, I went off of ADHD meds completely. With this, my life went downhill and I was as always making stupid mistakes that had rough consequence in my work and social life. I swore off stimulants for a year and a half and went on straterra which didn’t do much. My doctor suggested adderall and I gave it a try and I had a much better experience. I still take it to this day and it helped me tremendously. There’s still the irritability and lack of appetite etc, but not as bad as vyvans e was for me. Everyone’s chemical makeup is different. While adderall and vyvanse are very similar, one simple difference can change the whole med experience depending on your brain chemistry. So don’t give up!

I found that Ritalin gave me INTENSE come downs/mood swings and exactly how you describe vyvanse is how ritalin was for me. I felt like I was on mdma or something 😆 which is great, in the moment, not when it wears off.
Vyvanse had been like a miracle in the first week, then 2 weeks of this tapering sort of feeling with ups and downs, but not mood swings, more so different with each day.
I tried halving it, found it great on day 1, day 2 started out okay but ended with an impending doom feeling (maybe an overcommitment feeling, like I'm afraid I'll not always feel that way).

Agreed. I’ve been an artist all my life and took low key jobs to get by. I was crap at them. The neurotypical office career jobs were a mystery to me as to how or what people actually did. They made no sense.
I spent most of my last thirty years sleeping, depressed, angry, making mistakes, more sleeping to cope with an overfilled chaotic mind, and perpetually tired. Procrastination and self sabotage was a life pattern, and concentration ebbed quickly. Even if I started something with gusto, I knew I would have to work quickly or I would never actually finish it.
Despite this I had my creativity and tremendous skills and gifts all along even though I was treated by work colleagues, family, girlfriends as someone who just was lazy, never finished things, struggled with addiction (actually clearly self medicating) and anxiety issues, or just plain ‘odd’. None of it was true.
I was trying to do what I could DESPITE ADD/ADHD. Taking this medication was actually suggested by my ex, whose sister has it and thought I might be ADHD. Since then, I have my creativity but now I can live and work in an almost ‘ordered’ fashion and the overactive and frustrated mind (usually so to overthinking and silly errors or overcompensating with neurotypicals) has been transmuted into a sense of self that is more relaxed, yet focused, and most importantly, giving myself more love and attention especially to myself and others but in the context of starting from a point of being at peace with myself. Serenity and flow has come after so many years of struggle and so has self belief. The doubters and those who have kept me in a ‘box’ have fallen away naturally and I have ceased people-pleasing. Yes I do have times where my sleep is shortened but I do not worry about that. I embrace it, so small tasks or even greater, productive ones and I know I can just catch up later. I could mourn the ‘wasted’ years but frankly, I’m on Elvanse. I’m just glad to feel like I’m the me I was always meant to be.

Thank you! I needed this! I feel a lot more at ease about getting this medicine into my system. I have depression and severe anxiety on top of it so it's been a struggle......it IS a struggle. The initial feeling from Vyvanse seemed pretty invasive to me, but I've been reassured that it will get better. Well holy crap do I relate to what you are saying! From losing my job before starting meds, to feeling exhaustion in my bones (what a perfect description!). Unfortunately, that's the phase of taking Vyvanse that I am in right now. I hate it so much. But I do feel the light at the end of the tunnel is not that of an oncoming train thanks to reassurance. Thanks again!

It does come up when it wears off at the end of the day but i don’t have to deal with it at WORK. But emptional dysregulation is a symptom of adhd so I’m sure it manifests in different ways in different people.

Don't be disheartened if the first one isn't right. I had a terrible time with Concerta for a few weeks, but Elvanse just felt *right* almost from day one. And finding the right dose (60mg in my case) was like suddenly breaking through the storm clouds to clear skies. Things just *worked*. But ypu do need to make sure you don't take them too late in the morning, make sure you eat regularly, and drink more fluids than you think you need.

I am happy to hear that the brain gets used to the medication and the effects are more subtle with time. I have noticed significant improvement, however, as I have tendencies to isolate, being in public on meds is interesting. I am more peaceful, but that feels weird for me, however sometimes the anxiety I have makes me feel more speedy, but I am able to control it. Overall the effects have been noticeable, but I am wanting the effects to mellow out a bit more, so this was encouraging to hear.

Thank you, I really needed this video!
I am going through a really hard time rn and it‘s a convoluted story but in case anyone is interested in hearing my experiences, I‘ll explain it:
I‘ve only been taking ADHD meds for a few months. I tried three different kinds and figured out that Elvanse works best for me.
I took 30mg a day for about a month and also had a small to medium coffee every day. On some days I felt like the Elvanse wasn‘t enough and on some days I felt like the combination of Elvanse and coffee made me too stressed and jittery.
I ran out of Elvanse and I went without it for a week until my next appointment with my psychiatrist who told me 30 mg is a small dose and I should experiment with a higher dose and prescribed me both 30 and 50mg.
I proceeded to experiment while also not drinking coffee. I stopped coffee because I was worried I‘d get heart palpitations and feel really stressed so I only drank beverages with a lower caffeine amount.
This may seem somewhat unrelated but I had been struggling with pain in my shoulders and neck for a while due to my mattress that was broken. I later realized my sitting position on my desk was also really bad and likely contributed to the issue, as well as psychological stress which makes me unconsciously tense my shoulders.
Then I also tried a sleeping pill that my GP prescribed me for my issues falling asleep and keeping a consistent sleep schedule.
I think that pill was really the thing that threw me off.
The night after the sleeping pill, I only slept 4 hours and felt ultra exhausted the next day. The night after that I slept 6 hours and felt slightly better but still not great the day after.
While this happened, the physical pain kept getting worse despite me sleeping on a new mattress and doing stretches and mild exercises.
I decided to go to my dance class despite feeling that I was having a bad day and probably shouldn‘t go. I gave it a try and my pain got worse and at the same time, my lungs started hurting and everytime i was using any muscles in my upper body, the feeling of my lungs constraining kept getting worse until halfway through the class I had to stop. At this point I knew that exercising on that day had been a bad idea.
The next day (yesterday) was honestly the worst health day I‘ve ever had.
I was in so much pain, my chest felt like it was constrained so much that I was struggling to breathe (I was able to get in enough air, it just felt like every 10 seconds I’d have to take w very deep breath or I wouldn‘t get enough oxygen.
The worst part wasn‘t the physical pain tho but the way my brain reacted.
I honestly think I had a severe lack of dopamine yesterday cuz I felt severely depressed and hopeless and desperate and my executive dysfunction was worse than ever.
Btw, I had taken 50mg of Elvanse that morning and other than the ability to structure my thoughts and speak without forgetting every third word/forgetting my train or thought, I didn‘t feel any positive effect of the med.
I suffered so much that day and eventually I had a breakdown and cried so hard to the point I was hyperventilating. I‘m honestly grateful that happened because the crying released enough dopamine for me to function on a basic level again. I was able to brush my teeth, do some very basic self care and go to bed.
Today I woke up, made myself a coffee, took 30mg of Elvanse and I feel so much more normal.
I was actually able to do a few of the things I wanted to do that I was unable to do during the days before because I felt so horrible and was lacking energy.
Now, I know not all of these issues I have can be traced back to ADHD. I used to think they were all psychological but my GP recently found that I have a severe lack of B12, I figured out I get sick when I eat Gluten and some legumes and despite coffee and Elvanse, I still have this underlying fatigue that gets worse when I exercise on a day that I already feel bad (on good days exercising isn‘t an issue so it‘s not consistent).
I have several theories for what‘s going on with me but I also have an appointment with an endocrinologist next month and I hope they can find answers.
If there‘s anything anyone else could take from this comment, it‘s probably that a lack of dopamine cannot always be helped with ADHD meds if it‘s caused by other things.
Also, be careful with experimenting with your dose, especially if you have something else going on.
For me, ADHD is only one piece of a bigger picture and I need to figure out what else is wrong with me and what there is to do to treat it.
I‘m going to be much more careful with exercise (only exercise when I know I can take it and if I realize it‘s too much stop much earlier!!), other medications like that sleeping pill (I might never try it again or if I do only if I‘m in a phase of feeling normal for at least two weeks) and my dose of Elvanse and caffeine.
What I need right now is stability and routine.
And I need to trust myself a lot more and not take advise from other people if I have a bad feeling about it.
Both the decision to go to dance class and to take that sleeping pill were influenced by other people and I ignored my worries and it ended up catastrophic.
Anyway, I really needed this video because it showed me a positive example of how Elvanse can work if taken consistently over a long period of time.
It also reminded me of the 3-4 weeks I was taking the same dose of Elvanse consistently and how stable I felt despite it not being perfect everyday.

I've tried methylphenidate with delayed action (it was a generic variant of Concerta) and I grew tolerant for it very quickly, but it raised my blood pressure to alarming levels.
I've tried Elvanse starting at 20mg and raising the dose once I developed tolerance, but when I got at 40mg per day it was giving me severe insomnia and made me spiralling down into depression, and it was very expensive. I've quit medication altogether and decided to live with the consequences of ADHD, because even with medication people around me keep on criticizing me for mistakes I make or when I am zoning out, and have no compassion for my brain working differently.

Currently I try to only take Elvanse 4 days a week and have 3 days off to not develope a tolerance. My therapist encouraged me to do so and said that there are new studies out there which have as a result that ADHS patients should become more of their own experts about the dose and the frequency of their medicine.

Get your kidney tested every year too by the way, the EGFR number and make sure it don't go below 65 . I cannot believe the bird gave me this stuff, and I have had issues before with the EGFR. So I quit the pills after 3 months. My EGFR is below 65, and it wasn't as low as the most recent test (after stopping the pills) maybe the pills had something to do with this? I do not know. Don't eat sugar/sweets at night, the kidneys work overtime when you do.

Just a thought, I traveled recently and due to the amount of stress I opted for only anti inflammatory medication rather than any stimulants other than coffee. I think being out of my comfort space which typically helps regulate can cause some crazy internal anxiety that I think has the power to override some of the medications intended effects. First time watching, just interesting I have had similar experiences when traveling.

I started a little more than a month ago and recently I noticed that my sweat smells. I could never really smell my sweat, not even in summer and/or after sports.
I don’t think that I sweat (much) more but the little sweat that is there has an extreme odor. If I’m standing in one spot, go away and come back to the same spot, that spot smells like sweat and its not even a mild sweaty smell, it smells like its summer and I haven’t showered for a few days or something like that. Usually u don’t even smell your own sweat, but if you do, it’s already worse for the other people.
I never needed deodorant in winter and I don’t notice it everyday, but it still sucks :/
I also noticed that my roomate opens the windows more often. And my hair seems to get greasy faster. I hope it will regulate itself.

This sucks, any change? Amphetamines are nasty stuff, when I used to take them I noticed a strong scent too, almost like how when I drink heavy and go in 95 degree heat and stink the next day. I guess your only option is perfume and febreeze? You could try to apply an anti-sweat to your arms ect, anti-perspirant? Odd it gets greasy faster but I presume it is because ADHD medications dehydrate you bad, so maybe it just makes it oilier to protect it or something?

Hey, norway here! Just started on Elvanse this week. Tried Ritalin, but the sudden boost and sudden crash was to much for me, I was constantly thinking that i'm on medication, and that the motivation will fade away in a couple of hours. The worst part of using Ritalin was the depressing crash, and was just too much for me. I watched your video because on Elvanse, i guess its more smooth overall, but still the anger and depressive feeling hit, just not as hard. The part where you explained that you also had the unexplainable anger really gave me hope that it might get better after a few weeks. Without medication, i am very social and interactive, but since Ritalin forced me to distance me from others, i am afraid that Elvanse will too. Because when the anger hits, i can't communicate to people, i don't want to talk to people, and just in general dont know what to do.

Things I've noticed on week 3, going 20 to 30 to 40mg a week at a time so far: Weeek 1 I really noticed no difference until at least day 6. I've definitely noticed I'm struggling to sleep, and getting woken up around 3am. While I'm more hyper focused, extreme distractions are near impossible to ignore - for example, at work the other day I was trying to talk on a zoom meeting, and some people decided to start noisily opening boxes and talking right behind my desk, and I just could even concentrate enough to get my thoughts through sentences because of the annoyance behind me.
I definitely get up to walk around the house and do random tasks less, but I also eat/snack less - lost 2kg in the first 3 weeks.

My question is: is it worth it to take a risk of losing the most important thing I have, my emotional health (because i read a lot of people get more anxious and irritable) for some more focus??? i have low tension, I sleep well, i AM not anxious and i AM almost all the time happy. I AM really scared if I fuckup my emotional health

I never tried Vyvanse, but I used both Ritalin and Aduanz for a couple of years, unfortunately I found them addictive and it was a constant struggle to not take more than subscribed. So I decided to quit and instead focus extra hard on deploying behavioural strategies to counter the worst symptoms. And it seems to be working, although _far_ from ideal, I do get better and better at it.

If you are talking about the higher heart rate, it does go back to normal after a few days (or after a week).
I started taking Vyvanse about a month ago, increasing my dose every 10 days.
Every time my dose is increased my heart rate is high for the first few days, but it goes down a little every day, so it's back to normal after a week.

Vyvanse does help, but you do have to remember not to take it too late in the day because if you take it too late, you're up all night. I work later shifts, but I take mine from 10:30 to 11:00 in the morning because the stuff is in your system for up to 14 hours. And if you want to sleep, you cannot take it too late in the day.

My doctor instructed me to take Ritalin only from Monday to Friday. On weekends and during vacations, I don't use it. This way, by not using it every day, the chances of the medication causing dependence and tolerance are lower, according to my doctor. I also take Wellbutrin XL every day.

I've been using Vyvanse successfully for years. For the past few months though, I've been going crazy from itchy skin. I've changed everything, nothing helped.
Just today I realized this is the only thing I haven't changed. My Vyvanse daily.
When I don't have my anse- I don't have itchy skin.
Listed as a side effect is pruritus, itchy skin.
    I want to cry.
I've been so miserably itchy I've gotten nothing done.
I've changed diet, changed the way I do laundry, changed cleaning fluids for laundry, bathing, household use
Changed personal hygiene items to none, or only natural ingredients as well as making up my own three ingredient lotions,
Stopped wearing makeup, deodorant, no more mouthwash,
    UGH!!!

Hi! Hope you’re still doing well, I was hoping if you would share with me some information pertaining to Vyvanse. As of today I’m in my 2nd month of taking it, my second day of starting the dosage of 40 mg, last month I began taking it at 30 mg. Right now I know it’s working because I have somewhat of a less restraint in doing things. I’m not fully there yet, I can tell because there’s still a resistance to a certain extent. So pretty much my guess is I will know the medicine has reached its full effect once I’m able to “freely” do things without being inwardly restrained from doing them.
I was wondering at what mg did you stop at to where you felt you had reached the full effect that it was helping you, what was the mg you stopped at please, thank you, and again hope your still feeling well.

Vyvanse has made doing day to day things and socialising much easier. The downfall is when it wears off in 4-5 hours, i am anxious and dont want to do anything. Also while i am on Vyvanse, my nicotine cravings hit hard and sometimes after a couple hours, i want to drink. Not sure what to do since Vyvanse makes me set my mimd to things and do them but the habits it brings back is risking my physical health but without vyvanse, i feel like a sack of potatos. I feel like i cant win. Im also on lexapro which prevents emotional meltdowns and helps ease my overstimulation (i also have autism) but maybe adding an extra antidepressant dailey might balance things better? Not sure how to explain all this to my dr.

Yes, I agree with the withdrawal symptoms! If you’re on and off medication the fatigue is so real! I’m surprised you take 50 mg!!! 😮I’m on 30 mg and I weight 108. My IBS acts up with higher dose only as constipation. I try to stay as low as possible with Vyvanse dose.

Thanks for the update! I’m about to start medication soon (unsure which one due to the shortage), but had a few questions:
How has your conversation skills been affected over this last year? Did your friends and family members notice a difference? Also, have any of their opinions on ADHD or using meds changed/shifted since?

    • @AntoniasUniverse
      @AntoniasUniverse  Год назад +2

Thank you! These are great questions for the Q&A, I'm definitely going to include them❤️
Also I really hope you get to start your meds soon too and get the chance to try for yourself. Here's hoping that these shortages finally stop! Wishing you luck!

    • @heyna1185
      @heyna1185 9 месяцев назад +1

I know the question wasn‘t directed at me but I can give you my experience. I feel like my conversational skills have improved a lot on any ADHD medication I‘ve tried.
When I‘m unmedicated, I have a lot of trouble structuring my thoughts, I often lose track of my train of thoughts, I lose myself in side thoughts. All of these show up in conversations, as well as forgetting words very often and interrupting people out of a need to get out my response before I forget it. I often struggle with holding more than one thought in my brain at a time so conversations, especially with more than one person can be very difficult.
On Elvanse, all of these issues are a lot less intense or I don‘t even notice them.
The only “downside“ I‘ve noticed in terms of conversations is that I sometimes feel so energized and excited to talk about something that I talk people’s ears off and get really annoying. I always used to get like this when I was really happy and excited or sometimes when I was really tired at the end of a day. Now it happens more consistently but I think that‘s just a manifestation of me feeling better on most days and therefore being a little bit annoying. 😅

Does this go away!?!? Weight gain for me is not worth the benefits of I will always have an increased appetite after the come down.😬
