The remaining 5% he came off the bench is because of injury risks and to give his body rest with game time management. He will age better than CR7 and other stars though because his playmaking and passing ability will still be there and due to the offensive depth of Argentina he doesn’t need to be the scorer he was even in 2022, so a 15% decline in athleticism doesn’t negatively impact Argentina as much as a similar decline in CR7 or Mbappe or any other star would affect their club. Argentina needs to shore up defensively though

If you watch miami games then one would know how messi started playing alternate matches from end of april and took it light on the pitch too. I'm going to assume that statement is purely referring to Messi's time at PSG, given Messi's CL legacy is far ahead of Mbappe at this point.
Mbappe also had the advantage of the team being built around him when Messi was there. Therefore, obviously with Messi in a deeper creative role it was obvious Mbappe would continue to be their main goalscorer.
By the way, I didn't neglect goalscoring.. I literally said Mbappe is more of a matchwinner now. However, I'm simply stating Messi's role isn't centred around being the focal point for goals in the way it once was.

@@ADK_7 While it's different in some ways for a defender- Pepe still has to have enough athleticism to be able to compete against young and quick attackers, yet doesn't have a problem. A player like Messi is also able to compensate for a decline in speed, etc. He also is helped by the fact he's able to roam and not do much running off the ball. That said, he still has enough of a burst needed to get away from players. Not to mention, some footballers lack pace throughout their career, yet it doesn't hinder them. A player with Messi's quality still has more than enough to continue playing internationally.

Any player with Messis skill set can play well beyond their scoring days. So if he slows down his per game scoring but emphesises other aspects of his game (passing as in all sports) and lets a younger player take his scoring roll (and number if he is a 10) once he is clearly better scorer and as respected as a leader, he could play again, and it may also help his legacy by many magnatudes. A player of his stature stepping back while teaching the new leader and latest generations who he knows will lead the nation long after he is gone... Not every player can do that and some who may be able to physically may not want to mentally. or they may have a national team who won't allow them to be just another player as they may be a crutch because of how great they are and because of the gap of talent without them being the man... But I think Argentina has several on the roster who can be eased into the leadership role...
I don't know if Messi wants to go to the next world cup, but what impresses me about Messi is his longevity and despite the critics he's received throughout his career, he was able to win the world of Qatar in which he didn't have to demostrate anybody what he was made for.
