I would like to thank Rick Benbow for arranging this collaboration. Rick is touring with Genesis, Pink Floyd & Dire Straits Tribute Shows. As many of you know, Rick has done the keyboard parts and orchestral arrangements for countless songs all over my channel. This place would be very different without his input!

That Great Deadly Dark Side
The song is "The Great Gig In The Sky" which was written by Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright and (more later) session vocalist Clare Torry. It's the fifth song on the band's eighth studio album 'The Dark Side of the Moon'. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios between Sep 1972 and Jan 1973. 'The Dark Side of the Moon' was released on Mar 1, 1973 in the US and Mar 16, 1973 in the UK. "The Great Gig in the Sky" was not released as a single and has no chart history.
'The Dark Side of the Moon' was a massive hit world-wide and brought international recognition to Pink Floyd. It hit #1 in the US, New Zealand, France, Austria and Canada. It was #2 in the Netherlands, Australia and the UK, and #3 in Germany.
The song is mostly about life, gradually descending into death. It was partially inspired by the deteriorating mental condition, due to LSD, of founding member Syd Barrett who left the band in 1969.
Alan Parsons was the Abbey Road staff engineer assigned to the project. Clare Torry was a session singer and songwriter who did a lot of work at Abbey Road and was known to Parsons. He got Torry involved in singing the wailing vocals for "The Great Gig In The Sky". For her work, she was paid GBP 30. In 2004, Torry sued EMI and Pink Floyd for 50% of the songwriting royalties. The case was settled out of court and all copies after 2005 credit both Wright and Torry.
This collab involves the members of UK Pink Floyd Experience with Sina taking on the minimal drum parts. UK-PFE is one of the best PF tribute bands. The keyboardist is our well known wizard of the keys Rick Benbow. The Torry "wails" are performed by Rachael Willment. The band's Facebook page offered the following about Rachael -
"My dad was the first working musician I knew. But I have to nod to the big powerhouse singers, Ann Wilson, Janis Joplin, and Aretha Franklin. I’m also hugely inspired by Dr. John and George Clinton."
"My parents made sure I was musically educated from a very young age! Musical Theatre was and still is a big part of it. Apparently I knew all of the words to the opening track from 'The Music Man' when I was 3!"
Her favorite PF song to play? "Nothing has ever given me an adrenaline rush like "Great Gig In The Sky."
For Keyboardist and Musical Director, Rick Benbow, the Facebook post wrote - Biggest influences? - "Focus was the first band that turned my attention to rock music. As a keyboard player, everyone of my generation was influenced by Rick Wakeman and his work with Yes. Robert Fripp and King Crimson were also big influences for me."
Favorite song in the show? - "At the moment I love playing 'Astronomy Domine."
Rosanna was able to ask Rick some less usual questions
RO: "Great Gig" is mostly instrumental. Even the wailing female vocals are more of an instrument than a vocal. The few lyrics there are make it clear the song is about death. How do you, and the band, feel about this particularly in these COVID times?
RICK: I think it adds a rather unsettling dimension to the song - on the record you hear disembodied voices, taken from live recordings in the studio where people were asked questions and their responses committed to tape. But so we can keep the freedom of the tempo live, we add these voices in ourselves and it is poignant to think we were all on lockdown when we recorded this and the potential to death was all around.
RO: You once told me you had absolute (perfect) pitch. When and how was this ability discovered?
RICK: Yes I have absolute pitch - it's getting a little fuzzy with age as I have been exposed to instruments covering a variety of tunings, but I had it long before anyone around me thought it was a 'thing'. I used to play the home piano from the age of 2 and each note had a different sound to my ears - it's own unique quality. My parents were musical but not musical enough to realise I'd developed absolute pitch - that took a curious music teacher at school who used to enjoy giving me party tricks to perform. He'd play a 7-noted dissonant chord on the piano and I'd tell him exactly which notes he was playing, always a little bewildered why he found it so spectacular. I believe absolute pitch is learnt at an early age if you are close to music at the same time your are developing language. It's a blessing for transcribing music and sight-reading. It is a curse if the choirmaster decided to ask the choir to transpose at sight. Everyone else just adjusts their perception of the note 'A' - I can't do that ('A' is 'A' after all) and so have to transpose in my head to keep up.
RO: Is absolute pitch or relative pitch more beneficial to a musician?
RICK: Relative pitch I would say is essential to a working musician. Absolute pitch as I said has advantages and disadvantages but the party trick still gets me free beer at parties so who am I to complain!
RO: Was it always your intention to become a professional musician? How were you as a student with non-musical subjects? Was there ever a "Plan B"?
RICK: I started lessons just before my 4th birthday but my grandad had been sitting me at the piano long before that and I could pick out scales and make up my own tunes. I knew in my heart I was going to be a musician right from the start - it was never hard and felt like another first language to me. My career choices did fluctuate - I wanted to be a cathedral organist, a classical composer and then a rock musician. I'm comfortable somewhere between the three now. I was good at most subjects at an early age, especially maths which I love and still follow as a recreation today. As I approached my exams I slacked off a bit (I used to rely on my intelligence rather than my hard work and there comes a point where that won't work any more) so my exam results weren't stellar, but enough to get me into Cambridge to study music and enjoy the best three years of my life.
And, of course, a question for Sina -
RO: Was there anything unusual or interesting to you about the drum part?
SINA: Usually, I pay a lot of attention to the drum part whenever I hear a song. With "Great Gig" though, I never really actively noticed how many drum fills there are in the short period of time the drums are playing. I was listening to the singer instead I suppose. I think this really shows how brilliant and fitting the drum part was composed. Also, when recording, it wasn't easy for me to play on top of Rick's keyboard recording, because I tried to capture the 'laid-back' feel of the song without being too much behind. This cover was definitely not as easy to do as I thought at first!!

Let's see how many complaints I get for the length of this write-up! ;D See y'all next week!
Again JulietP and Miss Ro, another major knowledge drop on the origination and the thought processes of producing this amazing cover! Loved Rick's background and Sina's impressions about how to approach this. Thank you JulietP and Miss Ro!!
So lovely again, thank you again!!
@@sina-drums For you, Rick, or your dad - anytime! Cheers!
thank you for another great and informative write up, you and Ro always do a great and informative job.
Juliet P - Stellar and very informative piece - I knew the Floyd information, but some background on Rick and his team is great and very appropriate given his input to team Sina and the brilliant milestone they have achieved. And long - that's not long! And well done to Ro for her input :-)
Cheers to the vocalist, outstanding rendition. It was received very heartfelt.
blew it's doors off
I'm a 70-year-old Pink Floyd junkie ... what an outstanding rendition. The vocalist blew me away. Great job, Sina.
That is some grade A scat!
It takes an ultra special singing voice to perform this song well. And for anyone trying who doesn't have that kind of singing voice, the results will always be a disappointment.
This particular vocalist has the required ultra special singing voice.
I rarely if ever leave comments on videos like this but this video is a exception. Rachael Willment did a fantastic job on this song. I have seen several cover/tribute bands play Pink Floyd in the US over the years and none of the singers came close. Rachael knocked it out of the park, no, out of this solar system. I quite literally had a chill run down my spine listening to this. Congrats to the whole band for a "as close as humanly possible" remake of this all time great.
Thank you!
One of the best vocal covers I have ever heard so far. GREAT. I had to listen to it several times, it was so nice.
Thank you!
The best Great Gig cover I have ever heard and I've seen a bunch of Pink Floyd cover bands.
Wow! As a Pink Floyd tribute band, we used to perform that song live. Our lead vocalist on this one was a classically trained singer with an amazing range. I used to think she did a pretty bad ass rendition but I have to say that Rachael just blew her out of the water. Congrats!
Yeah, I don’t see how anyone can give this a 👎🏻? I have been a Pink Floyd fan for 50 years. We really need to move on from the fact that Pink Floyd is basically gone with the passing of Richard Wright and Gilmour’s & Water’s meaningless feud. It is up to musicians like these that will modernize their sound and keep the legacy alive. Great job everyone! 👍
Awesome Sina, Drummer!! Great! Great! Song!! Singer is Great!! I'm 68 still Rock n Roll!! Till Death
This is an extremely difficult song for any vocalist, and this is an exceptionally good rendition. Quite apart from the leaps, there are several small transitions with minor intervals which can be hard to nail, plus the wide emotional range needed as well. Very, very few of the professional vocalists performing with Pink Floyd tribute bands manage to nail it, even including some well-known ones like Lorelei and Durga McBroom and Ola Bieńkowska. Even Clare Torry, who actually wrote the vocal line, struggled to deliver in live performance, and RUclips abounds with many valiant but ultimately unsuccessful efforts just to get the notes right. [This is one of my favourite songs, so I've listened to almost every cover of it on RUclips]. This really is one of the most difficult songs of the past 50 years, and Rachael comes about as close as anyone ever has to the original. A wonderful performance!
Ola was the best I've ever seen or heard. She rocked it every time I saw her live or on video. Utterly remarkable.
Rachel's performance is excellent and a very close copy of Clare Torry's...but that's a lot easier to do in a booth than on stage. Which is why Ola is #1 for me. That was always the highlight of a Brit Floyd concert.
@Daveid Krieger . They were talking about the vocals, not the drumming. .. Anyway, people are allowed to have opinions about what they like and don't like. Telling a professional how to do their job is a different thing.
And YOU just nailed it. Thanks.
Clare Torry was treated badly by the producer and band. In spite of her stunning performance she didn't get much of recognition.
This was all improvised on the spot
so she justly sueed the band to claim composition rights.
She only got paid as a studio musician. IMO Clare deserved to be mentioned on the cover and share the .money and fame.
Sorry for my sidetrack, guys. This is top.music and you do it great.
Long awaited Pink Floyd from Sina. Thanks
Woke up restless And came hEre...again. This song is embedded inside my mind... sooo beautiful is her voice. So soothing are these sounds. Again I play it👍 AT THE END again - Maybe once more. Ynott. Melody, harmony and warm gut vibes too. Sina tempo following her vocals matching heart speeds... glueing perussions to emotions. Perfection? Maybe. Play it again? Getting so late now... BUT maybe once more - before I sleep - yes once more - so sweet - But - y not listen again as I sleep? Obsessions R rEAL. Please more songs about these wonderfull 🎼 afflictions. Use words, or feedback as inspirations. So much great 🎼 from Sina is helping the world keep more sane minds during some insane times... great music and great videos. Thanks Sina and Thanks also to your musical friends, family and colleagues.
Lo más!!!Sina con Pink, bárbaro excelente, un abrazo grande felicitaciones
Marry Xmas everyone it's the 1st time a song from pink floyd made me cry. I was just thinking about to days of old
FANTASTIC!!! Blew me out of my socks and then moved me to tears and joy. Just extraordinary in every way.
Pink Floyd was already in the 70s and is still one of my biggest favorites. A top performance from a singer, really no karaoke bar song!
This has always been my favourite Pink Floyd song, what a fantastic surprise! A brilliant song choice that was beautifully executed with Rachael's amazing vocals and a wonderful job by all. Many thanks from Canada.
the singer is just Amazing...
Sheer genius of Pink Floyd superbly recreated. It sent shivers down my spine and that's what music is all about.
This song conveys so many emotions without saying a single word.
RIP Richard Wright, gone but not forgotten.
👍🎹🎹🤣🎹🎹😭🇧🇴🇺🇸🇧🇴🇺🇸🇺🇸🇧🇴🇺🇸🇧🇴🤘🤘
Right on, Mark!
And then there were three - Dave, Nick and Roger
He will be missed!
Beautifully done.Thank you
How many times can I "like" this? Once isn't enough!
Take ours thumbs up on your comment as a multiplier.
Listen to this with headphones! AWESOME! Heaven! Pure magic.
This is probably the best rendering by any Pink Floyd tribute band, by far. Emotionally this took me decades back in time of the original. Shivering experience!
Well said, Jyri. 👍
A fantastic rendition. Pretty much note for note, I'd say.
Whoa... that blew me away.
I may have just levitated. Simply beautiful!!
Hi Ted
The vocalise is great!!!! Greatings from Russia!
Wonderful version, one of the most beautiful musics of Pink Floyd (Richard Wright - RIP).
I'm a Pink Floyd fan, and this cover is awesome! Sehr gut 😎
GREAT song GREATLY performed by everyone. Tks for that 1 Sina.
Sina, you are incredibly talented. It makes me so happy that you like the music from my generation, respect to you. Thanks for keeping this music alive.
Cheers to the vocalist, Rachael Willment. They are absolutely perfect!
Одна из моих любимых композиций!!!спасибо❤
the best cover of a song I've ever seen
I'm utterly knocked out sina, what a ride sheer perfection. !! 🙂👍
Wow...amazing vocal!
OMG. I'm speachless. I. Am. Without. Speech. If i wasn't watching the video I'd swear that was Pink Floyd. I can't believe how amazing this sounds. I'm used to heaping (well deserved) praise on you, Sina, but this time you just blew me away!
That woman’s voice is amazing not to say the band isn’t👏👏
Sina just keeps getting greater !!!
Congratulations everyone this is a Success, brings back a lot of wonderful memories!!
Absolutely perfect!
Na wenn das nicht wiedermal ein klasse Start ins Wochenende ist! Danke Sina und den anderen Künstlern! Es hat mir ab den ersten Klängen schon sofort ein Lächeln ins Gesicht gezaubert. 😉😊
Spitzenmäßig 👌🙏👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
That was so amazing Sina!! You continue to inspire with all your great videos and music!
The vocals are worth the price of admission all by themselve.
I did not know anyone could sing like Clare Torrey until this.
Thank you!
I went to see Uk pink cloud live in Scarborough at the weekend! This song made me cry! Yep a 35yr old man cry! Haha the singer has a unbelievable beautiful voice! What an experience to see this talent live
That blew me away.. you all nailed it, I felt it, even teared up a bit. Great job!!
Rock On !! 😎
Love this album. That's my favorite song. Vocal is deàd on.
This is some really good stuff! Congrats to the Team - amazing job!
I used to cruise through the shopping centers playing this, everyone who was older looked at me with disdain and now 30 years later I am older but I still appreciate this great piece of music...
Amazing how much can be said without speaking a single word, Her vocals are simply amazing... I forgot to mention Sina Gorgeous as usual I was born too soon...
I bought my copy the second day of release, we had some spare ground behind my mates house ,which backed on to a notorious council estate Gorsey Bank
in Cheadle Heath Stockport .
I set up our deck Amps , Speakers which were custom built by “Blank Frank” he used to work for Thorn Electronic.
Set DOM playing amp&speakers 400 watt + had some beers chillin .
Had to pull plug as council estate complaining about the noise!
BRILLIANT!
Again another brilliant cover and extremely heart felt playing on the drums love it
Sois unos genios, bravo! Os doy un nueve con cinco puntos, el cero coma cinco os lo dará David Gilmour, si le apetece, claro está. (09)
Can’t stop listening to this.
I've been lucky enough to have seen Pink Floyd live several times, and i also remember buying this album when it first was released in the U.S. back in the early 70's, just after i graduated from high school, and the chill that ran down my spine when i first heard this song . i got the same feeling listening to this rendition..
One of the great song of Pink Floyd outstanding performance
What can I say but just beautiful !
❤️🇺🇸🕊🙏🕊🇺🇸❤️
Sina, I was sooooo excited to see you doing my favorite band!!! Excellent job. I also have to give credit to the vocals. Those are not easy and it takes an EXCELLENT singer to do these well. You BOTH nailed your parts. Here’s hoping you do more Floyd!!! Jeff
The vocalist was wonderful and the backing band what's also so very good, even the drummer.
😎💜☮️😷
Wow! Just...Wow!!! Brilliantly performed by all. The wailing vocals always give me a bit of the goosebumps
this is the best cover of this song.
Awesome choice and unbelievable performance by all. Thank you so much!
Wonderful voice!
TEARS and GOOSEBUMPS!!!!! Well done guys 🙌🏽
Same
This is the best tribute band performance I've ever heard - of any song by any band.
Awesome! Love floyd! Great job! Rock on!
People who under any circumstances keep working to bring more life to to your life, more hope when in some cases there is no more. Real people, Thank You Sima, You are a Truly experience, inspiration....My best energy for you.!
A Fantastic cover of an Epic piece. Not just any band could have pulled this off and had fans love it. but it was Floyd, Their muses took them very deep into both the music and the lyrics, making the experience of listening a journey that you wanted to take again and again. Floyd didn't try to 'Rock' their audience, the music reached deeper, to the soul. And All of you did an Amazing job of re-creating this journey! Congratulations!
I saw the Dark Side of the Moon concert live in Tucson, Arizona. Everyone who wasn’t stoned (me) came away stunned at the depth and emotional power of this group. Great talent doesn’t need to “Blow Away” an audience in order reach them spiritually. These guys could had that.
@@king-o-vetts9899 Yes, "depth and emotional power." David Gilmour and Roger Waters together provided a rare combination of music and lyrics, along with inventive surprises, without the usual "leaping and posturing" type of rock stage show. 'Definitely more cerebral.
WOW what a great cover to an iconic PF song. Rachael Willment absolutely hit It out of the park.....if I closed my eyes and had not seen the video I would have sworn that it was Clare Torry singing. All of the musicians were spot on as well. Bravo well done indeed!
As otherworldly as the original, Rick has outdone himself with this production. And Sina, your contribution was spot on. Just the right amount to add to the overall soul filling performance. Rachel's voice gave me goosebumps. Phew eh! Thank you each and every one who shared their talents here.
Gasp! My favorite band. Easy, woman! You've already won me over. Don't go overwhelming me with adoration.
Sina, das ist eine großartige Geste von Dir, Rachael und Rick das Scheinwerferlicht zu überlassen ... Du kannst es Dir leisten 🌹
This is a fabulous cover of Pink Floyd’s “Great Gig in the Sky” and Rachael’s rendition is the best I’ve ever heard.
Gorgeous! Love the vocals, the instrumentals and Sina, you are perfect! All around excellent work! 💗💗💗
Wow..!!! Super..!! Great Team....... Sina... you always surprise us !!!..... We still love you from Chihuahua, Mexico.>!!!!
Beautiful piece - THANKS Sina and UK Pink Floyd Experience :) !
A fantastic cover
Sina, I hope this comes across as a compliment because that is my intent. I love these videos because, unlike most tubers, they aren’t just all about you but you go to great lengths to not only showcase other musicians but also do great tributes to the original music and the great people who created it. Even on your drum covers they come across as using your talent to support the music rather than dominate it. I grew up playing in a semi-professional rock band. I enjoy a great musician ( like Andrei Cerbo) but I have always been most impressed by great song writers. I thank you so much for you dedication to great music of all styles. Pink Floyd to Led Zeppelin to Simon and Garfunkel. Keep it coming!

best Vocal cover I've heard, hard to find a single person with the range power and vocal chops to get this vocal done right . . .
Noone can ever beat Claire Torry's studio recording. Even herself on the live performances in the 90's. But here we have tie result for the first time in history!
RESPECT FOR THE LADY SINGER! ❤
Keep it up . You are amazing. Sina. Almost all of your drums cover and feat are my favorite songs
UK Pink Floyd Experience just picked up another subscriber, me. An absolutely superb tribute this video. Everyone world-class. Sina, you may know that you on the drums I always love, great job with this song. What you said in the video description about Rick Benbow was really nice of you.
Totally nailed it!
i am absolutely thrilled.the dark side of the moon. goose bumps..
Good to see I was not the only one with goose bumps!
Beautiful!
The album and this piece in particular is a milestone in music.
Thank you for this skillful rendition, you're all pros.
Back for more Gig... Aaaahhh feeeels great. 😁 thank U.
Großartig und sehr nah am Original. Musik von Pink Floyd war in meiner Jugend stets mein Begleiter sei es "Wish you were here", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Meddle" um hier einige zu nennen. Dieses Video weckt natürlich Erinnerungen. Vielen Dank den Mitgliedern der UK Pink Floyd Experience und auch dir dafür. Bin gespannt auf evtl. weitere Pink Floyd covers. Ganz toll. Hab ein schönes Wochenende und bleib gesund. LG Frank
brought tears to my eyes.....simply beautiful
Ey me encantó la Patagonia Argentina un abrazote
I can't believe that wasn't Pink Floyd! Bravo!
Was für ein tolles Cover! (L) Erfolg für Sie Sina
Bei Euch ist es oft so, dass mir Eure Darbietungen besser gefallen als die Originale. Wieder mal super 👌👍👍👍
I thought you'd finally bitten off more than you can chew. With those massive vocals, who could possibly do that? Boy (girl) was I wrong! Rachael absolutely nailed it. A little soft for a dying woman but so nicely done all the same. Damn you can really drum up talent, pun intended. Such a superstar, sometimes I roll back on your early vids and, though always so perfect, you've really developed personalty in your style now. It's nice to be able to keep coming back and trying to learn from you.
FANTASTIC...FANTASTIC...FANTASTIC and FANTASTIC.
смотрим вас давно.поздравляем с миллионом.
The female voice is OUTSTANDING! All the experience too! The best cover in YT
I wouldn’t mind a 45 minute long drum cover of dark side of the moon from you not gonna lie
Deep Purple's The Mule (Made in Japan) version. "Can we have everything louder than everything else?"
I've said previously, I am very picky about anybody trying to cover any PF hit. Sina on the other hand has carte blanche to do any and all of their hits.
More PF please..... soulful and storyline..... :)
@@salbuda6957 ... I'll have to check it myself to see who "vacated their stool" to allow Sina to perform this with the rest of the group.
Are we seeing a(nother) plateau crossed for Sina?
😄
That would be most excellent!
Outstanding vocals. Rachael you were amazing
