How can we adapt a CBT programme to the cognitive profile of the single person?

I wasn't diagnosed with autism until I was 44. Many years before, when I was in my 20s and dealing with depression and anxiety, a therapist taught me the principles and techniques of CBT. I wouldn't say my life has been easy since then, but what she taught me has helped me help myself on many occasions over the years.

I've always hated cbt. To me it was always too simplistic and belittling - almost moronic - simply due to the very fact it has little to no interest in the actual person and their experiences explaining their difficulty. Simply put, they don't know what they're talking about (me) and they seem to not care enough (or have enough time) to get to know more.
