I believe my son emulated me because I have had an ED since my 20s. I counted calories every day of my life for YEARS when he was younger…and I weighed less than 100 lbs. He now has a bad relationship with food, too. People need to know that boys also can have disordered eating! Wish I had found you earlier, Abbey!

I used food in the reverse way. Bingeing. It was a maladaptive behavior I developed in childhood due to family issues. Brought that behavior into adulthood and I have tried diets and programs but realized I act the same toxic way by being too controlling with food or over exercising. Ugh the saying, “moderation is key” is apt here. Good luck to you and your son.

I was just talking with my sister about why we both never have had any food issues. We came to the conclusion that it was our moms no fuss cooking. She made traditional normal home cooked meals and we ate it. Period. No discussion about carbs, vitamins, diets. So I totally agree that kids take notice about what parents think about food, diets etc.

This may be true and it's really a healthy way to feed kids, no doubt. But my mom was the same and I got ED and started overexercising in my late teens. Just because I wanted to fit in a popular body type which was the thinner the better. I think it was because all models, actresses, and popular girls were conventionally thin. So yeah, seems like many girls were doomed. Hopefully, this will change with time

My sister did this with her kids. She would also compare her body to her 12 and 13 year old who were very slim and still had children bodies saying how fat she thought she was in comparison and how she wished she looked like them, and one of them is now 15 and has an eating disorder and is terrified of gaining weight. She's obviously going to gain weight because she's becoming an adult with an adults body. Breaks my heart. I think my sister damaged her by telling her that her slim child body was ideal insinuating normal adult bodies are bad. I remember growing up how my mom would criticize her body and talk about all the things she hated about it and how fat she was and I was bigger than her during this time so I automatically learned that my body was bad because if my mom who was skinnier hates her body, I must have been disgusting. That's how I interpreted it at least.

Your tone, even criticising the supplements she takes for her health (while perhaps ineffective, none of them dangerous) is at times cruel. The reality is you posted a video shaming and knit-picking the diet of a woman who is open about having an eating disorder... do you have any sense of empathy or self-reflection on how this might be damaging to her? I never watched The Girls Next Door. I developed a soft spot for Holly Madison when she went public with her Autism diagnosis (I’m also autistic) and did all of us a favor by expanding society’s understanding of what autism can look like.
Also, Holly said she DOESN’T follow the detox diet book- she just uses the recipes for green smoothies. I feel like Abbey often doesn’t listen and just gets judgy and nit-pickey. It’s frustrating and has kind of turned me off from her videos.

She literally says 'if I'm going with kimberly snyder advice, i'm usually trying...' so partially she follows the book :)

Last time I heard her talk about it he said She has never been diagnosed or gone to the doctor for autism she just thinks she might be, and said she might consider asking a doctor about it

I agree that food combining doesn’t affect the digestive system but we do need long breaks in between eating meals to give our digestive system break! We shouldn’t need to eat something every 2 hours if we just eat a meal until we are comfortably full!

So about the lemon water- i’m 8 and bit months pregnant and when I was about 5 and 1/2 I had a pretty bad case of gastritis which they found out was due to my pregnancy causing gallstones because of the pregnancy they obviously were not going to remove my gallbladder and talked about a precautionary diet so I could carry to term. The doctors did recommend lemon water because if it’s alkalizing properties. I don’t know if it was psychosomatic but I will say incorporating lemons and limes into my water and having lemonade when my stomach is really bad has been incredibly helpful.

I’m glad it helped you but there is no evidence based medicine recommending lemon water for gallstones. It’s from an old folk remedy and several studies have proven it has no effect. The only way to reduce the likelihood of gallstones is a diet low in cholesterol and high in soluble fiber…because that’s how you reduce cholesterol, which is what gallstones are made of. Cholesterol is a lipid and not particularly affected by pH so neither acids nor alkaline substances are going to have much effect.

It's possible you felt a little better because the lemon juice was raising the acid content of your stomach; but it couldn't have been doing anything about gallstones.

I bought that book the Beauty Detox Diet... it's... something. I recall her being super into like some homemade fermented cabbage to eat every morning. Or something like that. Never ended up following any of it.

And as I have gotten further into the video, I love what you said about eating with kids and eating mostly the same thing. I don't have kids but I had a mother who was always dieting and she never ate the same things as the rest of us did and it impacts you. And having eaten dinner with friends and their kids there is a big difference in one friends where we were all eating more or less the same things but just in different proportions versus a friend who there was a very strict delineation in "kids food" and the "adult healthy food". And not surprisingly the former family has young kids that eat vegetables without issue (there are specific dislikes of each child of course but not outright "ew vegetables!!")

I love your video's and I think I have watched them all. However the built bars we all should be told warning they have a high amount of sugar alcohol. I had to throw them out and had to sit on the toilet most of the day :( I missed a day of work because of these bars.

She doesn't say counting is bad, she says if it benefits you do it, if it doesn't don't do it. And she doesn't count a person's food, she looks into ppl who usually count and judge like crazy& roughly estimates it so it helps other people with their health.

I swear by lemon water first thing in the morning.....I swear automatically first thing in the morning, I dont need lemon water! A lot of supplements can be just an expensive pee. I take magnesium for restless legs that wont shuttup at night.
