  • Here is a quick video on how I set the saw blade tension on my Jeweler's Saw.
Experiment a little on how mush tension you like on your particular saw frame, and when you figure out what works best for you, mark how far the blade travels and make a notch for future reference.

I get how you install the blade. But what about tightening the 'shaft'? I don't know what it is really called. My blade is tight at both ends but the whole thing moves when I try to use it because whole thing is loose. there is a screw and nut that seems like it would tighten the shaft and keep it from moving up and down but as tight as it goes it still moves and the blade wiggles back and forth. Do you understand what I am describing?

Linda, If you have the screw on top tight, and it is still not stable, either the screw is bad or the frame is defective. I would take the top screw out and visit a hardware store to see if it can be replaced first.
      Hope that helps.
      Doug

I do it by pitch (sound).

Many people do, but it is hard to explain that certain sound to someone new, who is unfamiliar with their saw. Over time the “ping” is 2nd nature though.

Why the notched instead of eyeballing the end of the blade in the slot?

Hi! What to do if you are a very small woman with no strength in arms, hands and chest at all? My saw keeps escaping, coming off the frame. It's sooo annoying and frustrating 😪

Slick! 20 years wow. I'm ordering my first saw frame this week but sadly it will probably be made in china...

@@DougNapierJewelryMonk dammit!! I ordered one from Amazon last night! You made them eh? I may order one from you as i value handmade gear (especially if the one i ordered is total chinese garbage). Can you recommend a brand and size range of blades for a beginner? I'll mainly be using the saw for making jewelry out of copper sheet.

lonnie, the ones I sell are GrobetUSA brand. As for a saw blade size, I would suggest a 3/0 blade. They are small enough to do just about any job, but still sturdy enough so you won’t break them all the time once you get used to the saw.
