So many other videos show spider on day 5. I have hatched hundreds in my life. But I have never candled before day 7. Well, I did today, day 5, for my grandson. And I was so worried, cause not a single one has any veins. I can’t even see a mass in any of them. All other videos, show the spider formation on day five. I have never gotten any babies from this rooster. He is just a year old. When I saw the videos showing spider on day 5, then mine had nothing, well, I thought he might be a dud! Thank you for this video. I still have a couple more days before I have to give up. I have 34 in there. So really hoping this is not all a waste!
I just candled day 4 eggs and could see the blood dot in 26 of 28 and in a few some of the spidering. These are silkie eggs so they are ahead by two days, as in, they take 19 days to hatch so I candle day 4 and 9.
It definitely varies. I’m very experienced with this sort of thing and iv been doing this for years so from personal experience I can say that the eggs do not always have spider like veins in them. The only way you’ll really know if you have a dud is by day 14 if there is still no veins or visible chick then you have a dud. I always go by ‘incubate till no debate’ and it’s super useful.
I am hatching the eggs from sunlight incubation process... i checked the weather forecast and it has to rain.. what should I do now?? Since the temperature dropped I covered them with two clothes and put them in a warm place at home and today is day 5 and i see a big blob in the egg which is wider as compared to the previous days (not a single vein) is it okay??? What should I do to maintain the temperature???
If you got one of the models with the "Candling Light" built in, there is a button on the front panel on the left side for it. Some models like the ones I have didn't come with the candling light.
It’s been 6 days and one of my eggs has a mass and then a little dark spot in the mass where the chick is growing but no veins. But in the other egg which was later by the same chick the same day has a very weird shaped mass and no dark spot. Is this a bad thing?
Sometimes it will take a little longer depending on the conditions that the egg was collected under. Such as the temperature outside and how long the egg sat in a warmer environment. I tend to collect my eggs just once a day in warmer weather but when cold outside I will collect multiple times a day. Then they all sit in about 70 degree temperatures in the house till I have what’s needed for the incubator. Due to that the embryo will start to develop a bit faster. Many other factors will affect how quickly they develop. I’d say wait till day 8 or even 10 to candle eggs for the best results.
Depending upon how dark colored your eggs are you may or may not be able to see anything. In lighter colored white eggs you can see better than say darker brown eggs.
At 5 days you can barely make out the veins in most eggs. Only white eggs shows real clear at that time. Give them another two days solid time in the incubator and check them again. I’d you can see the little air bubble now that’s a good sign. But it’s not a guarantee.

How do you turn the light on the incubator?

@@HomesteadingBartramStyle today is day 8 and in one of the eggs it’s completely black and all I can see is the air pocket. Should I toss it?
