Thinking about trading my big heavy loud maxima for a Saab 2.0t. I've been using an 07 for a lot car at work. Its going to wholesale and I'm thinking about a straight trade. I do love that car. Its got cheap plastics, but damn is that thing quick! Itd smack my semi built max.
+Braptard I'd do it! They're a lot of fun. Though be weary about the GM parts, they're usually the first to go when it comes to the new generation Saabs!
+Braptard It sounds like you work at a dealer and may have access to tools to do a lot of work yourself, but if that's not the case, make sure you have / know a repair shop that specializes or works on these cars often. Definitely look at some How To's on YT and online for stuff to look for. If you encounter problems with it, SaabCentral is where you want to go first. It's a community of Saab Owners that stretch from Long Island to San Diego and even Europe. It'll save you money in diagnostic stuff and will save the shop a lot of trouble as well. Can't tell you how much it's saved me. Probably over $500 in repairs on my 05 Linear and I've only been on the site for 3 months. Lots of How to's, aesthetic mods, performance mods, tuners, etc. I'd recommend just making an account and poking around to see what you can find. I think you'll definitely like the B207R. Definitely recommend tuning. They can be relatively cheap and you can get some great increases in horsepower and torque.
It sold at the bid today sadly. Someone paid $4500 lmao I did like it but the plastics were really gm quality. I prefer the max anyway, already have a 2k but got 173k on the dash and I'm looking for something better. Thanks for the info though!
Thanks .. I have the time turbo hot side t3 .63 with the vband.. I wanted to flip the manifold but never seen it done..and I was worried about the weight of the turbo but that's good to here
Yeh just bear in mind welding cast steel to stainless is an utter pig. The welds constantly crack, we used 309 filler which is for dismilar steels and had one of us on the oxy torch preheating everything, then the other one would weld, then once we had done that spot we would put the torch back on to try cool it slowly, and Peen the welds to stop it cracking. Took a lot of effort but got it eventually. I think if I had to do it again I would just build a manifold from scratch. Which is what I'm thinking about doing now ;) Thanks for the comment
I've got a 1995 900 SE Turbo 2 door hatch, has the B204 with stock Garrett t25. Want to do HX35, but TD04 is more in my range. Also want to do stage 4 or 5 but dreams are dreams haha! Can't wait for the next video! Don't for get to get some videos from outside the car of launches and shit so we can hear her scream!!!!
Cool build +ratgreen! What is the part you replaced at 0:55-1:10 ? I just bought a 1999 9-3 last week and have been trying to fix it up and find a boost leak...
It's the cam cover breather nipple. It goes into the intake side of the turbo. You see later on in the video that's where I attached my oil vapour catch can to.
looks awsesome! can't wait too see part 2! I have to ask where did you find the headlight assembly? I've been searching but can't find any aftermarket headlight housing like in your video
+MrZoufzouf Thanks dude. Probably a few months. I have a manifold gasket leak which means everything has to come off for me to replace it, along with some other small tasks. And yes I have, its very quiet, very stealthy. With the side exit active it sounds like it has antilag on overrun. :)
This thing looks CRAZY, congrats on the build! I've got a few questions for you, in regards to ecu/engine management. 1) what are you running for an ecu? and how are you tuning said ecu? I'm looking to start a similar project but want to know the management side of the build if thats alright.
The saab ECU known as trionic 5, has an open source ecu flashing program called T5 suite. The ecu is great and is better than most stand alones. The software is free, all you have to buy is a can-usb adapter and that means you can remap the car yourself.
So I have a '07 9-3 Aero Convertible and I've been told that it's basically just a stage 1 kit away from around 300hp. Is this true or is it stage 2? If so what other stuff has to be done as far as suspensions and stuff.
loved watching this. I've modified my saab 95 to 295bhp but nothing as involved as this. Well done. Have you got part 2 sorted yet? Looking forward to seeing it 👍👍
+Joe Hignite Thanks dude. Not really, the standard intercooler wouldn't flow enough nor would the standard exhaust, there would be too much backpressure and the EGT's would get too high and cause det etc. Also 330 is minimum. Which means minimum. So I realistically will want to get about 340-350.
+ratgreen Really? I have heard the piping is good for 400ish, core is probably a different story. But i'm pretty sure a 19T or 20G would have been nice. But I like all your custom fab work. It's cool to see a documented vid for a Saab finally.
Joe Hignite Generic ebay wastegate. Or do you mean the holsets ? In which case just look at the pics of it and you will see the actuator. Anything with W on the end means internally wastegated. Anything without W at the end is externally gated. HX40 and HX40W for example.
Do you think a bigger turbo would fit with the flipped 9k manifold? And what year 9000 is it from? T3 flange right? I have similar plans for this summer ;) Looking great!!
+ratgreen twin scroll+holset is beast! I thought of making a "up-pipe" from the stock turbo location to top mount a holset. got a project topic on some forum? Would be interesting to see the progress so far.
+K1ckeyMouse up pipe would be nice and easy. You will need to brace it though as the weight of the turbo on that pipe will probably crack it. I'd bottom mount it for ease unless you have a real reason to top mount it. No I don't. I try to answer all comments here though.
Ask me again in a month or so ha. I have a leak but I think that's the manifold gasket blowing but could also be a crack that I can't quite see yet. I'll let you know when I take the manifold off.
Come on they aint thaaaat sketchy ;) PS I didn't do the welds on the manifold/turbo, which are the worst looking. The rest was me tho, and are ok considering it was my first time tig welding.
ratgreen I guess I only said that because the welding is about the only thing in your video I know how to do lol....I actually just bought a 05 saab 93 yesterday. and ok ( kinda sketchy ) lol
+qwertyxf I either had things laying about from other projects or second hand from friends, so its not very representative of costs. I lost track but something like: Stainless pipe and bends / flange £110 Wideband sensors X 2 £10 exhaust diverter valve £90 wastegate and turbo £60 (from a friend) intercooler £50 ic pipe kit £80 various AN fittings £50 oil cooler kit £90 vac lines £5 silicone joiners £30 HID kit / lens £50 Radiator = £77 new Aerocatches = £50 other random things probably +£100 extra
***** The car was on hold. I had a lot of setbacks. I got missold injectors, I was told they were 700cc but they turned out to be 120cc once I called bosch directly to check the part number, and the seller wouldnt give my money back so I had to go through paypal to get my money back. Then once I finally got real injectors in it, I took it for a drive and the manifold started leaking (not sure where yet). So I got fed up of it and left it for a few months. However I am making a new manifold (been working on it the past couple of days) and a new holset (even bigger!) turbo :) lol. So I have only done a little bit of work since, so I dont think its worth making a 2 minute episode. So I will wait until the manifold is complete.
i figured the manifold would leak as you were welding cast. I was going to search comments asking about it but it didnt take long.... lol. Going stainless tubular now?
S14 200sx radiator. I wouldn't recommend it however because it means you have to cut the slam panel and also the a small square of the subframe (to make room for the radiator drain plug). I think I'd get a civic ebay rad next time.
love the build very sneeky but do you uave the song name. also id love to see how these big ebay turbos hold up theres no lrgitimate videos of any online
It came off a sr20det making 300+ so it's somewhat reliable. With eBay turbos I think some are better made than others and even then it's hit and miss because the Chinese have no quality control. If you have the money for a new eBay turbo then you can also afford a used holset. Just get a holset
+ratgreen thats what i figured with holsets i mean they are on like every diesel truck haha. sorry for my failure on the grammer as well but this is nasty man mad props to your build. is this your first build and or are saabs worth tuning with the stock ecu. ive just heard some horror stories when it comes to electronics on saabs it may just be a generalization tho like anything but seriously considering getting one of these cars. my wrx has been giving me all kinds of issues i gotta get the oil tested for shrapnel right now haha so i may leave jdm forever for prime sleeper status for sure.
#weldporn haha! there's a Saab 9-5 in my area I'm hoping to buy for pretty cheap and learn how to do modify and work on cars and stuff like that. This video is a great inspiration! can't wait to see you troll some ricers in your Saab. haha, cheers!
Idk 9-3s usually comes with a 2.0l, If it's a 9-5 aero with the 2.3l i would say the 9-5 is better. I'm running 400hp in my 9-5 aero with only bolt ons.
I dont know what that is, but yes its not great quality, sorry I dont have time, nor the want to setup my DSLR every 5 minutes, when I just want to work on my car. Also my hands are covered in oil and shit, I'm filming one handed most of the time. Its a shitty wide angle clip on lens for my phone.
The T5 Saab Engine was top 10 best engines in the -90s. The pistons and rods can handle up to 450hp, the later T7 around 300hp ;)
Can candle more than that.. more like 500/600bhp
please god give me more, this is amazing.
mad skills !! big up from Sweden
the dude who built a turbo upgrade with using only one hand :D
sub'ed for part II
excited to see this build moving forward
Have 93 1998 2.0T 225HP/300nM and waiting to see more about this one, goin' to by my inspiration bro' :D

Yeah I've been looking into it heavily. I have that 07 saab and an 02 max on my list right now
+Braptard It sounds like you work at a dealer and may have access to tools to do a lot of work yourself, but if that's not the case, make sure you have / know a repair shop that specializes or works on these cars often. dope build. cant wait to see it finished. im looking into buying a 9-3 arc so very excited to see how it turns out!!
Thanks, you should, they are cool cars
just bought one for $2900. 2003! excited
+Corey The Person cool cars but the engine internals are not as strong as a b204 engine. Still very tuneable tho. Have fun
B204👍
Solid engine.
Very nice can't wait to see it finished & dynoed
Thanks .. I have the time turbo hot side t3 .63 with the vband.. I wanted to flip the manifold but never seen it done..and I was worried about the weight of the turbo but that's good to here

LOL welding the turbo to the manifold
I will be following this! Very cool! I have one of these myself, only left hand drive :D
OH I NEED MOOOORE!
I've got a 1995 900 SE Turbo 2 door hatch, has the B204 with stock Garrett t25. Want to do HX35, but TD04 is more in my range. Also want to do stage 4 or 5 but dreams are dreams haha! +ratgreen Alright cool thanks
this car is insane!!
I'm thinking to try to do the same ting with my Saab 9-3 2.0t 85000 miles. But i'm only 16 :\ Cant wait to your next video!
looks awsesome! can't wait too see part 2! I have to ask where did you find the headlight assembly? I've been searching but can't find any aftermarket headlight housing like in your video
Whats all needed to upgrade the turbo in my 2005 saab 9-3
waiting for the part II ^^"
KIND SAAB Regards dude
When's the next episode? I have a 99 9-3 in the same color making an estimated 310 BHP on a JZW stage 4 tune so these videos excite me.
How did u do the top mount? Send link where u got the manifold plate thanks
Where u get the flange for the manifold?
How did you learn all this? Can I just buy a book that you wrote with step by step instructions on how , what and why ?
My SAAB 9000 does 198mph and gets 48mpg but I have to drop it form a really high altitude.
Looking good, love the build. When is the next part and did you test it already on factory exhaust?
+MrZoufzouf Thanks dude. Probably a few months. I have a manifold gasket leak which means everything has to come off for me to replace it, along with some other small tasks.
And yes I have, its very quiet, very stealthy. With the side exit active it sounds like it has antilag on overrun. :)
The leak is a shame. Good luck with it and the other stuff.
Haha, I would believe that it sounds a little raw with the side exit.
Love that shit, it is planned to make a part 3?
in my humble opinion, Saab cars are Great, but to fix them is ALOT since there discontinued, VERY expensive to fix
Not in my experience. I got a whole car for £80 :) maybe in a few years when parts are scarce. At the moment parts are cheap
This thing looks CRAZY, congrats on the build! I've got a few questions for you, in regards to ecu/engine management. 1) what are you running for an ecu? and how are you tuning said ecu? I'm looking to start a similar project but want to know the management side of the build if thats alright.

ratgreen thank you so much, that's what I needed to know, for a setup like this you can still use the ecu with opensourse tuning
So I have a '07 9-3 Aero Convertible and I've been told that it's basically just a stage 1 kit away from around 300hp. Is this true or is it stage 2? If so what other stuff has to be done as far as suspensions and stuff.
+Brandon Ottinger (Jaqen H'ghar80) i dont think a stage 1 is enough for 300hp
awesome video! is there any video where you drive this beast?😉
loved watching this. I've modified my saab 95 to 295bhp but nothing as involved as this. Well done. Have you got part 2 sorted yet? Looking forward to seeing it 👍👍
God this thing is bad ass. :) Minimum of 330hp you could have just gotten a bolt on turbo too.

+Joe Hignite The piping probably would be fine yeh even if it is a bit thin, the core not so much. A holset will be even better ;)
+ratgreen Now you're talking me! That's my 10 year plan. lol I'm trying to find out which of them were external gate though. Do you know?
Joe Hignite Generic ebay wastegate. Or do you mean the holsets ? In which case just look at the pics of it and you will see the actuator. Anything with W on the end means internally wastegated. Anything without W at the end is externally gated. HX40 and HX40W for example.
would like to see part two
can't wait to see part 2 Subbed
looks awesome. where are you based? interested to see the finished product
London UK
Nice, hopefully will see you around at some meets

Is there more yet?
what's the first sound track?
when are part2 comming
How is the turbo manifold holding up with the flange welded to it.. I was thinking about doing the same with my hx35
Ask me again in a month or so ha. I have a leak but I think that's the manifold gasket blowing but could also be a crack that I can't quite see yet. I'll let you know when I take the manifold off.
Also a hx35 is twin scroll so you would really benefit from a proper twin scroll manifold.
You probably won't forget but remember not to use the t7 DIC! But anyway nice welds!
Part 2! :)
sick video...all awesome except for your super sketchy welds bro..
Come on they aint thaaaat sketchy ;) PS I didn't do the welds on the manifold/turbo, which are the worst looking. The rest was me tho, and are ok considering it was my first time tig welding.

Nice one , 2l or 2.3l also what turbo did you go for ?
2.0, and it's an unknown Chinese turbo. Made 300+ on an sr20det and wasn't maxxed out.
Do an update please!
Dope
any progress on this?
what where the costs as of now? for the build if i may ask? planning to eventually do this too :)
+qwertyxf I either had things laying about from other projects or second hand from friends, so its not very representative of costs. I lost track but something like:
Stainless pipe and bends / flange £110
Wideband sensors X 2 £10
exhaust diverter valve £90
wastegate and turbo £60 (from a friend)
intercooler £50
ic pipe kit £80
various AN fittings £50
oil cooler kit £90
vac lines £5
silicone joiners £30
HID kit / lens £50
Radiator = £77 new
Aerocatches = £50
other random things probably +£100 extra
***** More like 1.5k or less. I paid £340 for the car lol.
***** The car was on hold. I had a lot of setbacks. Zeek sheparzo Turns out it wasn't the actual manifold, just the gasket :) so for now everything is going back on how it is in this video.
what radiator did you use and what was all done to make it work?
S14 200sx radiator. I wouldn't recommend it however because it means you have to cut the slam panel and also the a small square of the subframe (to make room for the radiator drain plug). I think I'd get a civic ebay rad next time.
Awsome
Nice
when's part 2 mate?!
Great build man. wish you wouldn't taken your time though. You could've made this into a few videos. but good stuff regardless.
Next part please!

did you find the turbo on ebay or craigslist or just from an old project, etc. also forgot to mention that
+random1crap i like the music as well is it noncopyright/homemade
part 2?
How good is the B234R engine ?
julio rodriguez i
#weldporn haha!
there's a Saab 9-5 in my area I'm hoping to buy for pretty cheap and learn how to do modify and work on cars and stuff like that. This video is a great inspiration! can't wait to see you troll some ricers in your Saab. haha, cheers!
+Flobbi Jobbi The 9-5 has a bore efficient but slightly weaker engine than the 9-3. 9-3s are usually cheaper and much better if modifying is you plan.
+borderwave2 sweet man thanks for the response
Idk 9-3s usually comes with a 2.0l, If it's a 9-5 aero with the 2.3l i would say the 9-5 is better. I'm running 400hp in my 9-5 aero with only bolt ons.

Whatsuo brand
Subbed!
But great work
Fucking talent!!
Next part plz
Awesome build. Check out @mrBman he's got a mean 9-5. Who is doing your tune?
+borderwave2 Myself, I want to learn how to do it. One of the main reasons I got the car! Thanks
NICE...CAN'T W8 2 HEAR IT RUN...CHECK OUT MY OLD VID LOL
part 2 dammit
