    Long-term friend like this. Not necessarily in regards to DND but anytime we would go anywhere together, she would turn the trip into it over complicated mess. I new her since the forth grade, and the last time, she and her fiance we're helping us move. I had two friends that could only help me move for a limited time, and she tried to over complicate things, making it so it would take us 4 hours longer to move things. She ignored me when I told her that my other two friends only had two hours, and then they HAD to go. When I finally stopped arguing with her, and did things my way, she (who was physically with my wife) tried to drive a wedge between my now ex-wife over a minor disagreement we were having that day...She failed to do so, and had nothing to do with why me and the ex-split years later. That was the last day I spoke to that "friend".

    I'm kinda surprised that no-one sat down with the Problem Player to have a serious talk with him about his behaviour. I get wanting to have a character who has the respect of everyone around them, but it takes a certain lack of self awareness to have a character run away from a life of crime ... into another life of crime. At the very least, I can only hope the problem player someday learns what he did wrong, and how to improve upon it.
    And I say this as someone who is a bit on the spectrum.

    • @lootgoblinmarketplace
      @lootgoblinmarketplace  Год назад +6

      Yeah I agree. I think that if he didn’t ever try to address it beforehand then it’s a problem. If it’s been addressed continuously over 3 years then it’s definitely fair to kick someone.

    As somebody on the spectrum, I hate that there are enough people also on the spectrum who either A. act like this or B. use their neurodivergence as an excuse to act like this.
    Being autistic doesn't give you a free pass to be an asshole.

    • @eiant8515
      @eiant8515 Год назад +6

      I agree, I think the issue is much deeper and rooted in the person, not the neurodivergent issues going on. It's sad they try to hide behind it and people just get the idea that it's what we are like. :(

      @steelrarebit7387 Год назад +2

      Also, there are those who actually lack the social skills or willfully lack the social skills and their excuse or cop out is, "I'm on the spectrum." Seems popular these days to excuse away bad behavior by claiming mental issues they don't actually have.

    • @mx.menacing

      That kind of behaviour has nothing to do with being autistic though afaik.

      @@mx.menacing It's popular, whether a large number or a small number. It's their go to excuse. And it's not only being autistic that they claim. If it will bring them clout of some twisted way, there are grifters that will say they have it. Girl who doesn't have Tourette's claims she has Tourette's for clickbait and clout. I'm sure you've heard of it. I would have to get someone good at math to weigh the ratio of tik tokers to grifters to get an exact number, and that's just one social media platform. It's disgraceful and dishonest is what it is. I understand your point that it's not the whole world, though those noisy ones keep spreading like the cancer they are.

    I have had a player that attempted to force NPCs and other players to respect them as superior because of their background. For context this is a campaign that takes place in a very volatile land and currently unstable. In spite of being a level one character they decided that they should have advantage in skill checks because of a feature in their background. When I discussed with them(via email) the reason that no one would have advantage given their background and all the other players do not get advantage due to their backgrounds they told me that the NPCs were being mean to their character and they do not want to engage based upon the canon lore that the world was based upon.

    • @lootgoblinmarketplace
      @lootgoblinmarketplace  Год назад +4

      Yeah, I feel like whenever I have someone try to make their noblemen background a big deal, it’s going to be a little bit of a struggle with them. It sometimes gives off a sense that they expect to be more important than others… it would almost be okay if it was discussed beforehand but usually the superiority complex I’ve experienced extends to being “better” than the other players too because of their background

      @@lootgoblinmarketplace I like changing how NPCs interact with my players based on background and such, somebody might try to scam them, steal from them, hummiliate them etc. because they are nobles while other people (mostly other socialites) might show extra interest in them and might do favours for them because they're nobles.

    sorry for the long read
    i played my first dnd campaign last year and we kept playing for about 10 months. We were a bard satyr (me), a homebrew pot golem druid (my boyfriend), a tiefling ranger (the problem player's friend and crush), a warforged samurai (my friend who invited me to play), the DM (old friend of problem player) and a tabaxi monk (the problem player). He would always interupt roleplay and get up from his chair to act what we were roleplaying (wich would be okay for HIS character but he would do this for my character and the ranger). several times he interupted mid sentence to talk about random stuff and would try to look cool in front of his crush. When the only female player on the table wasnt there or coudln't make it to the session, wich was most of the time, he would shit talk the DM's best friend bc she was his ex. Openly. IN FRONT OF THE DM.
    He was a furry so we would always joke about his tabaxi character and one time I drew a wanted poster of his character as Neco Arc and he got GENUINLY mad at this. The reason why we stopped playing is bc he, after insisting and bothering our DM constantly to put a dwarf npc to fight against, we ended up in a ring fighting against two dwarf siblingss, who turned out to be descendants of a mountain god, knocked him out first turn. He then prosceeded to sit in silence the rest of the session with his arms crossed pouting and saying snarky comments. at The end of the session we where talking about college and how hard some classes were and he said to our faces that artistic carreers werent valid and basically we were crybabies bc music and art arent real jobs (for context I am a freelance ilustrator who is studying music along with my friend and my boyfriend came from an artistic public school).
    After that my boyfriend ddnt feel comfortable playing with him around and, because he is a litteral ray of sunshine that must be protected at all costs, we ended up ditching that campaign after trying to make the player understand his behabior was causing the game to become unenjoiable.
    we all suspect that he has autism or ADHD, but that isnt an excuse bc I am also autistic and I'm not a manchild asshole. Also WE ALL HAVE AN ADHD DIAGNOSIS BUT WE WEREN'T INTERUPTING OTHERS MID SENTENCE TO BECOME THE CENTER OF ATTENTION.
    so yeah...

    5:05 "because surely no neurotypical person would react in such a way."
    surely no one who really considers the author a friend and cares for them would say that :(
    I am not neurotypical, almost all of my friends are nd as well, and I am quite sure that every single one of us would only offer understanding and support in that situation.
    Why does it have to be about *that*, and not just about the fact that this person isn't a good friend (at least that's how it seems) nor a good fit for their table..?
    I wish the author all the best, but damn that line did not make me very happy. ~ If you read this far, take this cookie🍪and have a nice day.

      Yeah, I know he is having a rough time, but that was the part of the rant that seemed harsh. I think the overall rant about not needing a specific reason for someone to be a bad fit is fair, but definitely was a little mean with that line.

    As an ND person, I don't like OP's assertion that neurodivergent people have no empathy 😬
    The comment that the problem player made was just straight-up inappropriate, and has nothing to do with struggling to realize social cues.

    • @lisaweyh-gsell4214
      @lisaweyh-gsell4214 Год назад +2

      I disagree. Op didn't say that all people lacked empathy, they said lack of empathy and emotional awareness was often a sign of neurodivergence, which is a fact

    • @Bird-wz7nx
      @Bird-wz7nx Месяц назад

      No, in so many words, they said this guy had to be neurodivergent (specifically autistic because of the prior comment) because he made a tasteless joke. 4:42
      "Surely no neurotypical person would react in such a way" is blatantly derogatory phrasing.
      Neurotypical people are capable of being assholes who make shitty jokes, you know.
      And while I can grant difficulty reading social cues as an autism thing, the "lack of empathy" is, EXTREMELY outdated, ableist stereotyping of the condition.
      An excellent example here is that you're presumably a neurotypical person, (as you should be aware of this) but you just Umm Akshully-ed a neurodivergent person when they just shared that it makes them uncomfortable when people assert that ND people lack empathy.
      Your inability to read the room is impressive 👏
