Thanks so much for this video. I managed to do this thanks to you! It’s been working for a year now. Although I just pressure washed my car and all of a sudden it stopped working. The camera still engages in reverse but it’s just a black screen with the guide lines on. I’ve checked the wiring and connections and it’s seems fine. Any suggestions? Is my camera broken maybe?
I just ordered both the camera & harness. Looking forward to installing on my 2016 SV 4x4 I just purchased with only 30,628 miles on the odometer!! Thank you for the walk through with regards to the wiring to the OEM stereo!! I have the same unit in mine. Once I add the back up cam & OEM foglights I'll almost be done!!!
Go for it. I have discovered another shortcoming of my 2017 SV. It doesn't have heated mirrors nor does it have an outside air temp gauge in the dashboard. I see some frontier projects in my future. 😉
@@zoemaravilla2538 yeah, I think that was an available option. The previous owner didn't opt for that package. So I'll just add it along with the Oem foglight kit.
Thank you for the video. I like you wasn't sure of just how the trigger wire was going to work. You saved me the hassle of figuring it out. Also, the hidden menu for adjusting the camera lines was a great find.
reason for that is that the colors on the vehicle wiring harness are different from the colors used by the camera manufacturer . Blue on the tail light goes to red on the camera harness. the black on the tail light goes to black in the camera harness. I hope that makes sense.
great video thank you! just installed mine on a 2014 frontier and notice there is some static on the screen when i go into reverse. Any idea what could cause this? Thanks! Been wanting to put a camera in my truck since i got it and you're video made that possible!
Thanks for the Video, it helped a lot! I installed it on my 2017 Frontier. I now have a problem with my handsfree mic not working and I have heard other people having the same problem after installing this harness. Do you have any idea if this is related?
I wouldn't think so because the adapter I used literally adds two wires to the harness. It adds positive and negative for video everything else remains the same. Just check if all connections are the same. For example, if your vehicle harness has ten wires total, are those ten wires still going to the same pin on the back of your stereo after you put the adapter in between. Just follow each wire and see if it still goes to the pin.
@@HeikosGarage I used the same harness and the backup camera works fine. I don't think the harness should matter but it was about the same time that the bluetooth mic went dead. I did see where another comment was made on another forum about the mic quitting and the commenter removed the new harness but it still did not work. I purchased a wiring manual but have had no luck finding the problem yet.
I did. The camera is somewhat wide-angle and was just showing to much of the handle and not much of what is behind the vehicle. The camera is still working two years later and position at which i ended up mounting it is working great.
What year is your frontier? I have a 2016 SV that has a factory screened radio but no back up camera. Do i just need to order the camera or do i need something else?
No, I didn't. There was a hole with a square plastic nut insert that wasn't used for anything. I took that nut-sert out and enlarged the hole just slightly to be able to add a rubber grommet. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this video it was very helpful. I have not begun to install my camera just yet and was wondering if you tried the included shims to adjust the angle for your first location? I was playing with them a little and it looked like all of them used together may have helped with the angle/view but was not sure.
I tried but i still saw more of the handle than of the surrounding area. There might be a better camera out there for that specific install location. Btw i might make short follow up video. I will most likely change the way things are wired behind the stereo. I might remove some pins from the adapter and click them into the factory connector and get away without using the adapter all together.
I think if I remember correctly, one of the wire loops that are on the camera can be cut to turn the picture around. Please check the instructions that came with the camera.
Thanks for this!! I am trying to find out if Nissan actually included the basic wiring for the camera and sonar system in the "spine" of the main wiring harness and if there is a hidden plug that is blocked off when those options were not installed at the factory. I have seen that other folks have added the factory fog lights by getting the kit, getting behind the front bumper cover and bringing down the factory plugs and wires that are already there to just plug the lights into, then replacing the turn signal stalk for the fog light switch. Seeing that Nissan did that for fog lights, it would make sense in a manufacturing standpoint, to include the wiring needed for all options in the main harness(es) that run along the frame for the backup camera and sonar. That way, on the line, the assemblers would just install the needed equipment and plug it in. However, I have not found out that to be the case. Would be cool to find out if that idea is true, that way one could just get the factory camera and wire harness and install it for the head unit to pick up the picture to display. I'll have to keep looking on mine. Thanks again.

For the tailgate bezel on top, how did you remove this? Does it need a hot blower? I'm talking about the long bezel that sits on top of the plastic handle assembly across the tailgate. Thanks!
I guess you are talking about the tailgate spoiler. The flat top part is clicked into the lower part. You just need to wedge a trim removal tool in the gap between the two parts. the lower half is held on with screws.
Underneath the passenger seat I found a already existing hole. From i followed the vehicles wiring harness along the edge of the floor. It is all in the video.
@@HeikosGarage I followed all of that routing you showed on video but didn't see how you routed the wire from inside the cab to get it behind the radio
@@flhs81 underneath the plastic trim in the door frame is a wiring bundle, I followed that forward and then around under the glove box towards the center of the dash.
Thank you for sharing this video. I ordered the camera but not the hardness adopter. Would you mind to tell me what wire i need to clip into the factory harness? Where the RCA cable goes? I owned a 3dprinter and i planned to make an adapter to be mounted under the handle, if you have dimensions i can make one and send it to you.
Problem is that they only run the wires that have a function in your trucks current configuration. Unless your truck already a video signal going to the head unit the wires for the backup camera are not there. I forgot how many pin connector that particular connector is but in my truck there were only a handful of wires actual terminated in that connector. I thought of just finding a wiring diagram that shows the two wire (+ and -) for the video feed and the +12v from the signal wire but i couldn't find the specific crimp terminals that fit into the factory connector to add the wires.

It could be a bad camera. Is the video feed that goes back to your screen somehow disconnected?

Could be interference from other wires. Probably something that is close to your camera wiring. Or it could be a bad connection or a bad ground.
