    I'm not an auto electrical diagnostic technician but i am an electronic technician turned marine electrician - seeking to enter the automotive electrical field...at home. I simply want to mention that this instruction makes a whoooole lot of sense to me.

    Fleet mechanic here. Excellent video. Just about every mechanic I know struggles with 5 volt supply and j1939 problems , including myself. Just applied the first step to a Cummins diesel I was working on today. I found the problem in 5 minutes. Same approach I use for j1939 issues , just never used it for 5 volt supply. Again, excellent video.

(i still have to fix the engine injectors wiring harness .... but here on the island its kind of difficult to find a good one to replace it).... but as a matter of fact a good procedure for diagnosting those electrical issues....keep it up ... nice job bro..... and bye the way .. have a merry chrismas......👊🏻👍🏻

    When pin is in wire connector at PCM, shouldn't there be power?.or does 5v comes to PCM,?,thx

    • @ReignitedAuto
      @ReignitedAuto  3 года назад

      Power comes from the pcm, so it should show voltage, but if somewhere downstream the circuitis grounded or shorted to another circuit it will read 0 volts 👍

    Thanks for the video! I am dealing with a rainstorm damaged system. Replaced fuseblock, gem, pcm,alternator, starter, and starter relay. Pcm was the last purchase and was not necessary. I replaced the alternator due to high frequency signal disrupting the CPS. After replacing I still have other codes for high voltage/malfunction for a few circuits. Turns out they all share 5v ref. All wires have .0, .1 ohms resistance. All wires show 5.05 volts. Chasing this down has driven me partially insane still love this stuff though.

    • @ReignitedAuto
      @ReignitedAuto  11 месяцев назад +1

      The reference voltage is the voltage that comes into the sensor, the signal voltage is what comes out of the sensor and goes to the PCM 👍

    Can you show us how to read, understand, and comprehend electrical wiring diagrams, please? There are alot of viewers with mental learning disabilities and they really want to learn how to read, understand and comprehend electrical wiring diagrams but they struggle to learn it because it has to be broken down like if it was being taught to kids so the minds of the mental learning disabled can get a good grasp on it and comprehension. I like how you teach in this video because i truly feel like it would help the mental learning disabled learn because your teaching style makes it easy to understand and comprehend to where the knowledge can be applied with confidence.

    hi i have a 2009 ford fiesta 1.6 tdci,i was driving it last week with no problems,then out of the blue a cog light came on which i have been told is the pcm light,the car died and wouldnt start for around 5 mins,eventually got it running and got it home,a friend plugged it in and a p0698 code came up,he said it was throttle pedal,so replaced that also put a new fuel filter after a day or 2 same thing happend,it wouldnt start so i put a forscan on it turned the pcm light off and it started,after 2 hours cut out again so i unplugged egr and it run fine for 2 days then the light came on again even with the egr unplugged,it has no problem starting but once that pcm light comes on the car will not start until i plug forscan into it and clear the p0698 code,is there anyone out there who can help it says sensor reference voltage c circuit low additional fault symptom circuit voltage below threshold......thanks in advance,jon

    Your second step is confusing. If the pcm is supplying the 5 v ref out to the sensors and you back probe at the pcm then a break in the 5v ref wire leaving the pcm won't affect your readings. In order to do step 2 you would have to check 5v ref at each sensor in order to see a broken wire. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

    @ 9:14 if you have continuity between ground and battery ground then your grounds are good. NOT TRUE! This assumption could produce a false diagnosis. Seen it many times. You want conductivity in your wiring. The only way to see this is through voltage drop testing. It’s too easy to not do. You shared some great tests but I was disappointed when you suggested continuity testing.

    • @ReignitedAuto
      @ReignitedAuto  7 месяцев назад

      Your statement is true, however this video is called electrical diagnosis 101, running a load test on circuits is a more accurate way to verify that a circuit is good, but many people will not have that capability and a simple continuity check is a good first step. If you eliminate all other possibilities and you still suspect a circuit issue then I would absolutely perform a load test, but it's not going to be my first step.

    So I have 5v coming from the pcm but in the scan tool it's reading 0. All the sensors have 5v to them... scratching my head

    • @ReignitedAuto
      @ReignitedAuto  10 месяцев назад

      The pcm is reading the signal voltage coming back from the sensor. You may have either a short to ground somewhere on the signal circuit, or an internal short in the sensor itself that is pulling the circuit down. If there are multiple sensors on one circuit you can start by disconnecting them one by one to see if the circuit recovers. If you can isolate which sensor is pulling the circuit down then at least you'll have a starting point. 👍

    Dang. After finding your channel and watching this video, I was really hoping to see more like this. I just replaced timing chains on a 3.6L GM (09 Acadia) and now I have a cam/crank out of sync code. I was very careful about the chains being right on every tooth. I know it probably jumped a tooth at the first startup, but I wanted to check sensors before I tore apart completely and recheck the chains and tensioners.

      Those engines are notorious for that nonsense! i've done a couple on some Suzuki vehicles that use that GM engine weirdly. Always a pain in the butt.

      @@ReignitedAuto So I'm finding out! I also did the cam phasers and oil pump while I was in there, but who knows. Maybe one or more of the replacement phasers wasn't perfect, maybe the crank reluctor shifted, maybe a new tensioner isn't functioning properly, chains out of time despite my best efforts...but at least I can check the 5v circuit first. Thank you for this video.

    I have an o6 Silverado 1500. the radiator cooling fans come on high as soon as i start the truck and stay on, but as soon as i unplug the ac high pressure switch the fans work properly. but Ac will not work until i plug the pressure switch back. John that's actually normal if your a/c is on, or the vehicle is in defrost mode, the fans will be on high.

      @@ReignitedAuto THANK YOU FOR REPLYING BACK. What gets me is both radiator fans will run on high even if the ac and heater are off. I leave to work in the morning, and the temp is 52F and both fans come on high as soon as I start up the truck and stay on until i shut the truck off. I've had 3 shops try to figure it out and paid to replace the PCM but the problem is still there . I have also had to replace the radiator fans because the motors went out due to the fans running all the time. What is a good resource for electrical diagrams? How does a 5V signal should look like? I have an intermittent problem with my 2013 Durango V6, going occasionally into limp mode and throwing a bunch of codes related to 5V circuits. I already replaced all sensor, the PCM and tested the harness for shorts. I observe some downward spikes, is it normal? This is the behavior that I observe: ruclips.net/video/tMlXGUC9aEY/видео.html

    Excellent job. The PCM sends out 5v to each sensor and reviews the reply/returning voltage. Based on the returning voltage, the PCM determines something is wrong and issues a DTC & turns on the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT so the driver takes it to the dealer and gets fleeced.

    Hi there. I own a Vw Polo Gt Tdi 1.6, my car has been throwing a 00538 reference Voltage-Open Circuit error in Central Electronics and even the air conditioner has been getting cut off randomly. I had sent the car to VW workshop to fix the said code and they checked the Climatronic, BCM, Reference Voltage Fuse and wiring and they all were fine, but still the fault code reader was flashing 00538 error, after which the master technician hooked a battery charger to the battery and erased the code and it didn't appear again, which it used to after turning the ignition off and then on. The Technician said that it is a bad alternator, but then the battery voltage is at 12.8 when the car is off and when the car is turned on without A/c. it shows 13.9-14 and when the A/c is turned on it shows 13.78. There's no issue with starting the car, no battery icon on instrument cluster, nothing, but the fault code won't go.
