This song was in the soundtrack from the movie "We Were Soldiers," about the troops of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), US Army, badly outnumbered and fighting a bloody battle in the Ia Drang Valley of Vietnam in November 1965. The lyrics capture the loyalty soldiers feel toward one another. For them, it strikes a very deep chord. I can't hear it without remembering my friends who died in combat.

Every time I listened to it I thought of my grandfather, a CSM, who served three tours in Viet Nam and was an amazing leader, humble, but persuasive.

It is a perfect union. Not one that I would have ever expected to work, given the differences in their voices, but they turned out a masterpiece.
