Its 2020 and I just watched Joshua. Man this song is beautiful and haunting. It is now one of my favorite songs. In the 90's I never paid attention to this band but now I feel like I missed out on a lot of good music.
it was very sad what he did to his own family. the father was clueless all the years prior to the sister's birth that anything was the matter with him.
I like how the uncle looked a bit weirded out right at the end of the movie, as if he already knew there was something off about Joshua. His rendition of this song was just too good, too disturbingly perfect. Hannibal Lecter and Joshua could be father and son!
Except Dr Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lector had what’s known as a “Freudian Excuse”. Several! Joshua Cairne was just plain evil and absolutely sick, and for no reason.😠🤢😷
@jay miller true. That’s a scary thought! Remember somewhere in the beginning of the movie when his father was talking to his teacher, and she said she was looking to “move him up a few grades”? That could give him a head start on that. Largely, what made him succeed in his plan was that he was indeed a literal confirmed boy genius. If he was able to pull off that much at just nine, who knows how far he could get!
wow can't believe after 14 years this video its still here. I watched this back in 2009... this song is a treasure and the film is severely UNDERRRATED!
Can't believe i've heard this song the first time 12 years now, hearing it again can even make me recall the smells and the memories so sharply as if it was yesterday...
That moment the movie is over and you hear an amazing heartfelt song for the first time. Yeah I'm feeling this one. Love them and always will. A true band is able to tap into ones feelings. Into the soul.
This movie surprised me. I was ready to pass it off as some fluff film id arroganly throw in the massive pile of cinematic duds ive collected over the years. How pleasantly surprised i was! Jacob's vocals brought literal tears to my eyes! And that end scene proved to be cinematic perfection! Bravo!!!!
Love this song. Kept listening to Joshua singing it over and over :-) . Downloaded it with Dave and loved it even more. Enjoyed the movie, acting so good.
Beautiful song, really adds to the mood of the Joshua movie. Just watched it again now. Very good film. Jacob Kogan was really good as a real creepy little.... well creep, in it! The end scene when he was playing this song with his uncle was very eerie and one just had the feeling the little bastard would tell tall tales about his uncle touching him when he decided he got tired of him and couldnt use him any more for whatever purpose, and that would have been the end of poor uncle too, leaving Joshua to descend even further into the abyss of his own detachment and psychopathic insanity!
The Fly When I pull the wings off of the fly The fly never wonders why I did it When I pull the wings off of the fly The fly never wonders why I did You know they didn't ever Have to love me No, no, no And no one will ever Love them now Oh, oh, but they They always wanted somehow To save me Why, oh, why For pity's sake, they should've saved themselves Oh, oh, but you You always said I never missed a note I only ever wanted to be with you I only wanted someone to play Play, play, play When I pull the wings off the fly The fly never wonders why You know they never really ever had to love me No, no, no But no one will ever love them now Oh, oh, but they They always thought that somehow they could save me But why oh why For pity's sake me, they should've saved themselves but you you always said I never missed a note and nobody ever knew me like you do, you do You always said it's gonna be ok, ok I only ever really wanted to be with you I only wanted someone to play, play, play, play When I pull the wings off of the fly The fly never wonders why I did it
Letra When I pull the wings of a fly The fly never wonders why I did it When I pull the wings of a fly The fly never wonders why I did But you know they didn't ever have to love me No, no, no And no one will ever love them now, oh oh But they' they always wanted somehow to save me Why, oh why, for petty's sake they should've saved themselves Oh, oh but you, you always said I never missed a note I only ever wanted to be with you I only wanted someone to play, Play, play, play When I pull the wings of a fly They fly never wonders why You know they never really ever have to love me No, no, no But no one will ever love them now, oh oh But they, they always thought that somehow they could save me But why, oh why, for petty's sake they should've saved themselves Oh, oh but you, you always said I never missed a not And nobody ever knew me like you do, you do You always said it's gonn'a be o.k., o.k. just watched the film and it was freaking amazing. The end really caught me by surprise lol The ssong at the end was just perfect though :) really explains Joshua's feelings throughout the film :) AWESOME SONG!!!
this is really a beautiful song. it reminds me of growing up and how i used to do bad things just to get my parents attention. i never knew why, just why they never asked me why?
You know, I've seen a lot of DMB concerts and I'm from Virginia so I'm def. a huge fan! I love this song! Even though it was compsed for Joshua - which is a really creepy movie - but I like the piano version and this version.
luv it, the way its inserted in the end of JOshua's movie, with the kid singing is brilliant, too bad that this scene and the ending is not available .. thanks 4 this vid :))
this song describes my life so much. we were horribly abused by our parents until my grandmother saved us and adopted us. flash forward I'm 28 now and mother is homeless addicted to every drug out there, dad is spending 20 years in prison..."and no one will ever love them now". all I remembered going thru the abuse as a kid was how badly I just wanted to be with my nanny.
When I first heard this song in its entirety, it reminded me of my youth, making mud pies with the other neighborhood kids. Then this little kid came by and we haned him a worm. So with his hands he pulled that worm like a piece of taffy and it broke into to pieces.
...into two pieces. But it was all good because then one worm became two living halves; two living halves that could help aerate and fertilize the soil, become food for birds, or go on to make a whole bunch of other little baby worms. Then the whole process could start all over again. So anytime anyone ever compares me to a lowly worm, I think of this childhood anecdote and this song. It's from a really cool movie, too.
In my interpretation this song is about the dysfunctional relationship between a parent and a child. As a child, we aren't questioning the behaviours of our parents, whether it's good or bad (when I pull the wings off of a fly, the fly never wonders why I did it). We think it's just normal. That's how it works and have always been that way. But the child recognises now, that the parents has also been hurt in the past which is the cause of their behaviour - which obviously was toxic for the child and emotionally abusing (they always thought that somehow they could save me, for pitys sake they should have saved themselves). On one side there is so much anger and bitterness from the child but also a big, deep down yearning for the love of the parents... This song is truly a masterpiece imo, it always makes me so pensive and melancholic...
DMB is infamous for having songs that are only heard in concert. They are also a tape friendly band so you may want to utilize AntsMarching to find a show that has them playing this song.
Kinda... If you watch the movie you can see how it fits into the movies story really well. No doubt the song was written for the movie, but I'd say it fit the character(Joshua) more than it fits the movie.
After I saw the movie 'Joshua' this became one of my favorite songs. It's just amazing
Same here lol
Saaaaame
Bebe AlRasheed agreed.
Bebe AlRasheed I seen joshua too good movie
Absolutely...a masterpiece of a psychological thriller...and Sam Rockwell...need I say more?
I only found this song because I caught the song at the end of some movie called Joshua, I believe. I was immediately in love. ❤
idem
Has to be one of my favorite movies in ages. Joshua makes Damian Thorne seem a choir boy
Love this- it’s also in the movie “Joshua”
idem
I'm glad there's so many people out there that enjoy this song as much as myself n.n
Its 2020 and I just watched Joshua. Man this song is beautiful and haunting. It is now one of my favorite songs. In the 90's I never paid attention to this band but now I feel like I missed out on a lot of good music.
where did u watch it
why this song is not famous? this is one of the most beautiful songs that i ever heard
this song haunts me; especially after seeing the ending of "Joshua"!!
it was very sad what he did to his own family. the father was clueless all the years prior to the sister's birth that anything was the matter with him.
I’m so sad that I can’t find this song on Spotify 😞
Right? Crazy I didn’t think anyone else really knew this song. You got good taste😊
I know me too. Just tried to add it and it’s not on there😢
All those shitty songs on spotify and this doesn't make the cut? "Why oh why?"
Right😢
It’s not on anything 😢
Depressing and beautiful. I'm always on the verge of tears.
I like how the uncle looked a bit weirded out right at the end of the movie, as if he already knew there was something off about Joshua. His rendition of this song was just too good, too disturbingly perfect. Hannibal Lecter and Joshua could be father and son!
wow, yes! you are absolutely right!
Except Dr Hannibal “the Cannibal” Lector had what’s known as a “Freudian Excuse”. Several! Joshua Cairne was just plain evil and absolutely sick, and for no reason.😠🤢😷
Yeah he knew.
Hannibal has nothing on this kid!
Dave can make any lyrics sound so beautiful. Even those as creepy as these.
" For pity sake they should have saved themselves"....
Love Dave matthews I had the first album when I was a teenager
"why oh why... For pity sake they should have saved themselves." Dave's voice carries the emotion over so clearly. Got to
wow can't believe after 14 years this video its still here. I watched this back in 2009...
this song is a treasure and the film is severely UNDERRRATED!
If I hadn't watched the film I would have never realised how haunting this song is.
It is an eerie song but is amazing all the same.
I love how hauntingly beautiful this song is in tone, but the lyrics give to a fractured young mind.
Both Joshua's version and Dave Matthews rendition at the credits, are beautiful.
First time I heard this was in the Joshua movie.... good song
Same here. Now i wanna learn it on my piano
Weronika Komperda Well that explains...
Weronika Komperda I don't blame you. The movie wasn't good in my opinion, but I like this song.
Kine Tajet I learned it. message me if you want sheet music!
netherwarper do you still have the sheet? Would love to learn it as well
Can't believe i've heard this song the first time 12 years now, hearing it again can even make me recall the smells and the memories so sharply as if it was yesterday...
How am I just disvovering this song? This is great. Moving. Touching. Makes me nostalgic. A melancholy moment.
I know this is very late, but it was used and performed in a movie called Joshua. One word to describe it: visceral
That moment the movie is over and you hear an amazing heartfelt song for the first time. Yeah I'm feeling this one. Love them and always will. A true band is able to tap into ones feelings. Into the soul.
Heartfelt?
This movie surprised me. I was ready to pass it off as some fluff film id arroganly throw in the massive pile of cinematic duds ive collected over the years. How pleasantly surprised i was! Jacob's vocals brought literal tears to my eyes! And that end scene proved to be cinematic perfection! Bravo!!!!
I love this song. I want to listen to it for the rest of my life.
The version sung by Joshua in the final scene was downright creepy, but Dave Matthews' version is tragically sad imo.
This song is so beautiful yet tears me to shreds. I've never cried to a song so much . Yet it makes me smile
Why is something so beautiful makes me cry like a baby . Only a few songs
I can't have enough of this song, it's so beautifully melancholy but speaks the truth. Depressing but still beautiful.
Just perfect! Both the movie and the song!
I want this song for my funeral. ❤
Ah, the best part of "Joshua"... The ending credits with Dave Matthews singing.. At least there was this
I loved the movie.
just saw the movie the song really stood out had to run to the computer to look it up to hear it again......great and haunting....
So fucking hauntingly gorgeous.. perfect for days you need to cry 😢
This is such a hauntingly beautiful song. I love it.
joshua was a great movie!
Love this song. Kept listening to Joshua singing it over and over :-) . Downloaded it with Dave and loved it even more. Enjoyed the movie, acting so good.
❤❤Překrásná píseň ❤, co se neposlouchá MMM❤
Beautiful song, really adds to the mood of the Joshua movie. Just watched it again now. Very good film. Jacob Kogan was really good as a real creepy little.... well creep, in it! His uncle and baby sister were not safe! Why end movie that way?
A masterpiece in psychological thriller form...and Dave's haunting dirge...perfect ending. Did I mention Sam Rockwell the great?
I love this song but I find Jacob Kogans version somehow more beautiful and pure. Really causes shivers down the spine.
The most amazing song ever . I cry while i conquer the next mountain
rarely heard a song with so much feelings in it... so beautiful, so desperate...
You should check out Dave Matthews solo album “Some Devil” a bunch of great tunes
The Fly
When I pull the wings off of the fly
The fly never wonders why I did it
When I pull the wings off of the fly
The fly never wonders why I did
You know they didn't ever
Have to love me
No, no, no
And no one will ever
Love them now
Oh, oh, but they
They always wanted somehow
To save me
Why, oh, why
For pity's sake, they should've saved themselves
Oh, oh, but you
You always said I never missed a note
I only ever wanted to be with you
I only wanted someone to play
Play, play, play
When I pull the wings off the fly
The fly never wonders why
You know they never really ever had to love me
No, no, no
But no one will ever love them now
Oh, oh, but they
They always thought that somehow they could save me
But why oh why
For pity's sake me, they should've saved themselves
but you
you always said I never missed a note
and nobody ever knew me like you do, you do
You always said it's gonna be ok, ok
I only ever really wanted to be with you
I only wanted someone to play, play, play, play
When I pull the wings off of the fly
The fly never wonders why I did it
Bruno Santos wow this song
Letra
When I pull the wings of a fly

*HANDED him a worm

Not a big dave mathews song but love this one great song
Absolutely
all i wanna do now is grab some ice cream and put this on repeat :(

This description makes it so much clearer to why joshua acted the way he did! It makes everything better.
DMB is infamous for having songs that are only heard in concert. They are also a tape friendly band so you may want to utilize AntsMarching to find a show that has them playing this song.
Incredible song. Strange, eerie, irresistible. Was the movie Joshua built around it??
Kinda... If you watch the movie you can see how it fits into the movies story really well. No doubt the song was written for the movie, but I'd say it fit the character(Joshua) more than it fits the movie.
+breah scott Thanks. But I want to know if in fact the song came first. you say "no doubt": I'd like evidence. not suppositions. I can do that too.
+breah scott you know for rcsmple that Love Potion #9 and Alice's Restaurant resulted in movies, not the other way around
Tear jerking to say the least....
Joshua
I see what u did there. If only and sweet reference
Stereotypes wouldn't exist if everyone stopped living up to them. That goes for you, Irish! haha
