    Watched all your videos it's been a big help. I've just finished building mine and it really is a great kit. I replaced the shocks with Tamiya CVA mini shocks part no. 50519 that I had lying around. Not only are these really great shocks they're a direct fit. Same length, body and hole size in the caps. Meaning you can reuse the springs and the nice metal bushings that come in the stock shocks. Nice to not waste these parts.

    Hi mate, I love your Patronas design :-)
    Regarding the servo: I agree that this servo size is a bit hard to find. I ordered the JX PDI-2506MG (available on different marketplaces, I paid ~13€ on AliExpress). According to it's specifications it should be much stronger (6,6 vs. 3 kg/cm @6V) and only a bit slower (0,09 vs. 0,06 sec/60° @6V -- okay, 33% slower, but still quite fast) than the Surpass Hobby S0025M you referenced. This might be an interesting alternative so some guys.
    I already have the JX in hand, but not tested it yet since I received my MN86K Kit just yesterday.

    Great start to your channel!
    I'll be adjusting preload on individual shocks and altering weight distribution when mine comes, before adding weight. Does anyone do spring sets any longer? I remember having some that included dual rating i.e. Vsoft for around 2-3mm of initial travel. That was for the on road cars I used to race.
    Been wondering which servo to get, I'm guessing a waterproof, digital, all metal, around 9kg. It is a wild guess though. 3kg didn't look bad!
    Haven't done RC for around 20 years and haven't got any of my old cars sadly!
    One other thing I've noticed, if the current shocks are longer it may push the beam axle to a point where the angle of the main drive shafts cause vibration that affects traction.
    Can't wait to get going again.

    • @RCModelsandMods
      @RCModelsandMods  3 года назад

      Hi. Welcome back to RC!! Great truck to ease yourself back in with. No specific spring sets for the '86, but you may be able to use ones for other cars. The springs are 15mm wide by about 50mm long unloaded. I might look at trying to 3DP a bracket for a larger servo. Not had any axle axle vibrations yet but certainly something to be aware of. Cheers for the positive comments and enjoy your '86!!!!

    Hi there!
    Assembled my 86ks recently with almost all the same upgrades (shocks, servo, rims from Injora, steering rod). Good for the first crawler kit for the newby.
    Have you searched for proper led light kit, to light whole entire car in mn86ks version? I mean 3 repeaters on each side blinking when you going left or right, all the lights in rear bumper with stop lights, flashing when you brakes, and two on the roof.
    Don't want just to stick in a several permanent lights, to make it shine like a christmas tree...

      @RCModelsandMods  3 года назад

      Hi. Thanks for watching! I am not aware of a purpose made light kit for the '86 being sold yet, but there are plenty of LED light systems out there that will probably do the job. Just remember that most of the holes are for 3mm LEDs. Enjoy your rig!

    Hi, nice work you‘ve done to this model :)
    I find this Model (the K Version) really noisy. I‘ve already filed the motor mount so I can better adjust the mesh. No luck... fitted a 12T pinion. No luck... really annoying sound. Are you experiencing this too?

    • @RCModelsandMods
      @RCModelsandMods  3 года назад +1

      Hi Dan. Thanks. Mine's really quiet. There is a small section in my first test run video which doesn't have background music playing (at 6:45) which will show you. Someone else commented that their K was noisey. The only thing I can think it might be is the brass bushings as that's one of the differences to the KS. I take it you applied plenty of grease to the gears??

    • @danielh4707
      @danielh4707 3 года назад

      @@RCModelsandMods yes, I replaced all bushings with rubber sealed bearings, and also greased. I also added a thin pad between the motor and the mount, that I had from another motor. • @markiewicz1953
    @markiewicz1953 3 года назад +1

    Very nice. But how to correct the geometry of turning front wheels (I mean the inner wheel turns more then the outer one - different drive radius-different angle). This very popular in rc cars WRONG geometry together with blocked differ makes sharp turning almost impossible. If linking rod is placed in front of the axis, the angle of steereing knuckle arms should be changed. The applied angles are correct ONLY if the link rod is placed in the back of the axis. Good luck.

    • @RCModelsandMods
      @RCModelsandMods  3 года назад

      Good point, well made!! Sadly if the servo was set further back it would limit suspension travel as it would hit the gearbox. Perhaps another 3D print project. Thanks 😁👍

    • @markiewicz1953
      @markiewicz1953 3 года назад

      @@RCModelsandMods You can leave the rod in front of the axis (like in real Defender), but it must be longer, then distance between pivot points of knuckles. Another words the angle between both knuckle arms must be obtuse (bigger then 180deg). I did so and it looks really good and of course works much better, espacialy on slippery surfaces.

      Hi. Good idea! Got a few other videos on other trucks to do first though. I will see what I can do. The closest comparison in specification and price to the MN99 would be to the MN86K (the MN86KS is higher spec). The MN99 is a great little truck that comes RTR. It's a capable for its size (smaller than the 86 - about 1/14) but is more 'toy grade' as they say. The 86K is a little bit more expensive but its superior in every way and is 'Hobby grade'. But as it's a kit you need to buy the battery, transmitter/receiver, and electric speed controller to get it running, which is extra cost. I would definately recommend the 86, and if you stretch to it, the MN86KS. Hope this helps. 😀👍 Make sure you sub if you haven't already!!

      Hi. I cant find anywhere that sells the KS body parts yet. You can now get the body shells in the all colours but only in the K spec. I don't think it will be long before they start selling the other parts so don't worry. I'll keep an eye out for them. 🤞

    The steering servo link is bad

      You're not wrong. Its a big design flaw, but one that should be an easy fix with an axle mounting bracket, so long as it doesn't hit the battery tray or any other part.
