    When I used to use an old jcm 800 I’d put a boss od 1 in the front and an eq pedal in the effects loop. That way I could get a colossal volume boost for lead and shape the tone. It sounded phenomenal!!

    I bought an old Boss 10-band graphic EQ (RGE-10) kind of as an impulse purchase because I saw it for a good price on Reverb, but it's become my "secret weapon" for recording with my Marshall (JMP 2203 from '81 modded with an FX loop). I run the EQ in the FX loop and use the EQ to carve out that harsh frequency around 3-4kHz that Marshalls tend to have (and for lead, sometimes boosting the midrange a little bit), and it really allows you to crank the amp and get a nice sound without it poking your ears like an icepick (especially with a Strat)

    For my budget board, the one pedal that has consistently made the cut for low to medium gain is the Joyo Sweet Baby. I absolutely love it. It's an extremely ugly pedal but has nice natural crunch. I just paint mine so it doesn't offend my eyes. The other one is the Donner Yellow fall delay. Both are great for under $35.00. I tend to change out pedals alot on that board (because it's a budget board), but those two always seem to make the cut.
    The EQ is great for single channel amps like you explained. Paul Gilbert had a signature pedal for just that purpose.

    Thanks for the vid! A bit too much coffee today?
    Depending on which amp I am using, I sometimes run a GE7 through the effects loop.
    There a so many great OD pedals now. But I use a TC Spark into a Nobles OD1 into a Keeley Nobles Screamer into a Fulltone OCD into a Walrus 385. Some interesting OD tones from various OD stacking. Love that 385!
    I also use a Dynacomp, 2 Carbon Copies, Angel Wing, HOF Reverb and a Strymon Blue Sky.
    I don't have much use for a wah but I do run a mini- volume from Fender.
    And of course a Boss tuner. The same one I've had on my board since 1989. That thing is a tank. No problems with it ever.
    However, lately I've been trying some of the new multi-effects units. They are getting REALLY good but still missing just that little but of pixie dust. There always seems to be 1 or 2 effects that are not good or even useable.

Its been in a closet for yrs bc i stuck a Mooer multi effect in my 6505mh loop and just made patches chorus flange phase etc the Mooer has a 3 band eq that scoops but not nearly as adjustable. The Mooer does have built in looper w drums which is useful.

    Pretty cool, I’ll try that with my mxr 10 band. Btw, just curious, if your amp DID have an FX loop, where would you run each pedal? I ask because I have my od and wah in front, then my delay chorus reverb, looper, and 10 band eq all in the fx loop. I ask mainly because of the wah, it sounds like everything running into the wah and I’m a bit piqued at the sound vs how i have it running into the front.

    I actually have an EHX Signal Pad on my board. It's literally just a pedal with a bypass switch and a volume knob on it that turns down the signal going into the amp. I use mine in the effects loop as a master volume though, as the Peavey Bandit doesn't have a master volume. Nice little pedal if you don't need the EQ section. 👍

    My green box is the JHS Bonsai. 9 different screamers in one box including the Keeley mod and the Josh Scott mod. The EQ pedal trick is terrific. EQ pedals are so useful. I actually bought a Metal Zone just recently because of how good the eq section is. Does it have trebly fizz like a squadron of angry bees going in the front of the amp? Yep. But there are plenty of ways to fix that. Put it in an fx loop. No fx loop? Put a little bit of delay after and it will smooth right out. It may have more volume and gain than I need but sometimes you need to piss off your neighbors.

    Ya know, I've had a GE-7 for years, and I don't like the overprocessed sound of it. You are the first person I have ever heard talk about that "hack" from Ade. I'm going to try it. I don't use pedals much, because I like to go balls out with an amp that has the gnarsty, fugly, tank-treads-grinding-bones sound that I love. Usually, a little something from the lads at Orange. These days, it really is a "little" something, because all I currently have is a Micro Dark. But, man! That little f*cker was made to cause much pain and suffering! No pretty, silly love songs coming out o' that tiny black box of evil! But, yeah, you've given me a project, with the GE-7. Thank you, sir!

  • @Javier-qk7ms
    @Javier-qk7ms Месяц назад

    This is how I use my GE-7: In front of the amp, cut off the lower frequency into a distorted amp. This increases the clarity and note definition like a tube screamer whitout the hump in the mids. Great if you have a high gain humbucker like a JB but need enhanced articulation

  • @philfyphil
    @philfyphil Месяц назад +1

    Most amps sound better when you get a very overdriven sound, then wind the guitar volume back a couple of notches, you get far more clarity and far less fludge. Especially with Telecasters and Strats (single coil).

    GE-7 is great. If you move a slider off zero and its starts to hiss a little, a mod can fix that. Don’t know if Boss has resolved this, but I’ve owned two that would hiss. Especially if its going to be an always on pedal for a clean sound. They should do a Waza version with upgraded components.

    Me i am more ol the old school rack gear musician. for me hopefully in the future i will have more on effects, etc. company let's called keller instruments inc. i have ideas for things i have not seen yet and or improvements on things. First would be i want to create a programmable wah pedal and there would be a rack version. where you can program up to 500 settings which can be controlled by midi, you could control it by blue tooth, etc. it would have a option to where it would be either switchless meaning as soon as you step on it, it is on and step off it is off. the rack version will be similar but you can connect up to 8-10 of the pedals which will be switchless. you will be able to program 1000 settings. and midi and blue tooth controllable but you will be able to connect it to Ax-fx, Helix, or whatever effects processor you want and when you change presets of them it will change the wah, There will be fade and tails added so it can fade out from one preset to another. You can name the presets. then like that there will be a programmable tuner pedal and rack version where you can program tunings into it you can choose chromatic, strobe, the display whether you like Korg DTR 2000, or the peterson, boss pedals, there will be choices of displays so you can pick what you like. there will be up to 5000 settings, this will work for all stringed instruments, 7/8/9/ 12 string instruments. also you can choose the have the background display colors to change and flash as your tunging so it goes from blue (Flat) to green (In tune) Or (Sharp) which would be red. Or you can change what colors you want to stand for flat, in tune or sharp. also it can be connected to another idea which i will get to later. Then next thing will be a pedal and rack single and a dual 31 band programmable graphic equalizer and a parametric equalizer. These will also be midi controllable. have up to 500 programmable settings (plus all these will have artists settings as well) you can manually change the equalizer settings or do it through the app or the other thing i will get to later. The next thing will be a Programmable No Latency I guess you would call a transposer. This will be for being able to play like zz top song where you can play the standard tuning part, turn on this effect and go into the slide tuning for those parts. or better yet, you can play the ozzy osbourne no more tears standard tuning then click on this effect and it goes to that lower tuning. No more needing multiple guitars for tuning. Again you will have 5000 programmable presets, also you can go from the standard switch to momentary switch on the pedal but this will be midi controllable and can be controlled through blue tooth and through the next idea I have. which would be the keller foot controller system which will be a modernday bob bradshaw system mixed with the Helix, Neural DSP with a large screen on the large footcontrollers, there will be phantom power outputs for Connecting a tablet or laptop that you can have mounted on mic stands which you would then not have to kneel down to edit or change effects. also you can have the tuner display on the tablet again so you do not have to look down, there will be things like trails and fades for effects, you can program which switch will do what and if they are standard or momentary, like some new footcontrollers, each switch will have their own screen where you can label what they do, and set and change the background color of them, you can program names of presets, there will be scenes as well. There rackmount controller system will have where you can connect 8 foot controllers to them, each footcontroller will have in/outs for up to 4 expression pedals. and maybe a port for multiple displays or tablets, laptop this way you can control and change effects, etc. without bending down or your guitar tech backstage can change things. also have an idea to create a phantom power guitar instrument cable that powers active pickups and electronics so you would not need batteries. also i thinking up a new effects rack unit. something take takes the old school stuff ADA preamps, SGX 2000, Digitech stuff add it with Line 6 POD XTPRO and Helix, Fractal Ax FX, Kemper, Neural DSP and make the ultimate effects/preamp processor a 4-5 space rack unit, with over 10,000 presets user presets and 10,000 artists presets. with every effect in the book, you can control it through laptop/desktop, tablet, It can be used as a interface go from guitar to computer, it would be multi instrument use. instead of having a model for guitar, one for bass, and one for vocals, also trying to think how to create where can may a synth unit like the roland ones without the need of the pickup. where you can use the standard instrument pickups. Then there would be a line of keller amps which i would like to take things from multiple brands i love and put into a 4 and 6 channel all tube amp and some things i have not seen done for guitar amps but dug pinnack of Kings x did for his bass amp, I believe he had it it where one part of the amp would push the low end through one set of cabinets and high and mids through another set of cabinets, I would like to try that in guitar amp heads. like have mids and highs go through 2 4x12 speaker cabinets and the low end go through 2 1x15 or 2 1x18 cabinets. also have midi controllable, and on the speaker cabinets i would like to have what Joe Satriani had on his Peavey JSX speaker cabinets i believe it was some kind of mic input/output thing. Me I am old school hauling stuff around is a part of paying dues as a musician it is a part of the heritage. which i do not want it to die off. Too many are becoming lazy and depending only tech and lazy tactics. Yeah i might be stupid, delusional or whatever to come up with or what those things to exist. but there is a few more such as creating a dual 7 way blade switch for 2 humbucker, 3, humbucker and 2 humbucker and a single coil pickup configurations. you could get even more variety. yes i may be crazy, and i am not good at explaining stuff. but i believe these things would sell and would make it better especially the programmable wah, equalizer, tuner which whether the pedal versions or rack versions you can connect to your tablet that you can have on your mic stand and change and edit them and be able to tune without having to bend down to your footcontroller, pedal board. also these pedals with be able to power a laptop or tablet . but if these things existed i would be using them.
