It's not. Just because it takes place during Christmas doesn't make it a Christmas movie. Christmas movies are actually about Christmas, you know Santa, elf's Rudolph and shit.
Alan Rickman got this part less than a month after moving to L.A. Before that he was a stage actor. Bruce Willis as an action hero was a shock to everyone. We'd only seen him in romcom movies and tv. Other than Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon most action heroes walked through armies with barely a scratch until Die Hard.
Its not a hotel but office building. The fictional Nakatomi Plaza is a high-rise office building in Century City, Los Angeles, California that houses the headquarters of the California branch of the Nakatomi Corporation, a Japanese company. The building used to represent it is played by the Fox Plaza building, the main headquarters of 20th Century Fox. The name Nakatomi: The Nakatomi clan was an influential clan in ancient Japan.
The argument that any movie is a Christmas movie can be based on this simple concept: Is Christmas essential to the plot? If yes, it's a Christmas movie. If not, then it's not. Let's look at Die Hard. Hans planned this heist specifically during the Nakatomi holiday party knowing there would be hostages all confined to a single area making them easy to control. The party was after hours so there was minimal security. So was Christmas an important factor in the plot? Absolutely! This heist would not have occurred on a regular Friday night. Thus, abstract as it may be...Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.
One of my favorite BTS facts about this movie is that Alan Rickman's reaction to falling from the tower was genuine! He was told that they would count to 3 before he fell 40 feet onto a crash pad, but instead, he was dropped on 1, so the fear and shock on his face is all real
John sitting in the front seat of the limo is an absolutely brilliant move, as it serves two purposes: First, it allows him to talk to Argyle and give the audience information about his past without it feeling like an out of place information dump; Second, it tells you something important about his character, which is that he's a blue collar, down to Earth kind of guy who simply wouldn't feel comfortable being chauffeured around by someone when he'd rather treat them as an equal. This puts him at odds with Holly's co-workers and world and and further sets up the rift between them.
Die Hard was one of the first action movies of its kind where a whole lot of comedy was mixed in. Bruce Willis was already used to doing action comedies on his then very successful popular detective TV show, "Moonlighting." Die Hard was Bruce Willis' breakthrough film, and it skyrocketed him to A lister fame.
It also changed the fact that an action film didnt a massive muscle guy doing all the action. That it can just be an average joe with some badic skills
Bruce Willis almost didnt get the role because at the time he was little known and doing a sitcom called Moonlighting. Imagine David Schwimmer doing season 1 of Friends and then recommended for Jason Bourne or something like that lol
the part when he is hanging from the machine gun strap reaching for the vent.....and at first he missed.......that was a blooper...the stuntman missed.....but they kept it in.
Literally the BEST (including Die Hard 3) of the whole franchise! Also, pray for Bruce Willis. He stopped acting because he has Pick's Disease/Frontotemporal Degeneration, where the person's front and sides of their brain degrade, causing them to change their personality and behavior (don't care about things, compulsive behavior, says things that's socially inappropriate, irritable, binge eats, hella rude language, and some symptoms similar to parkinson's disease). Unfortunately, there's no cure for it and the survival average is about 6 years after being diagnosed. Also, RIP Alan Rickman, aka Severus Snape (Hans in this film).
You're reaction to Alan Rickman was great! Another roll he starred in around this time was in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves alongside Kevin Costner. I would definitely recommend! Especially since it then inspired the parody of Robin Hood Men in Tights with Cary Elwes (From the Princess Bride) and Dave Chappell. I think you would love both of these movies!
"Die Hard": This little-known song sums up the movie: ruclips.net/video/wYHleFFhlFk/видео.html Meme: "Christmas doesn't start until Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building. 6:41 Hey, it's Dr. Lazarus!

Nakatomi tower might have been part hotel, but I don't think it's really established. Commercial buildings like that often lease out floor space to other businesses, since the building was still under construction I think they just had their own employees there. For the scene where Alan Rickman falls out of the building they dropped him a second earlier then he expected, so the reaction there is real. From what I've read previously he was afraid of heights.
Best Christmas movie ever 🎉 you need to do all of the Die Hards, well at least up too With Avengence 👍 Another debatable Christmas film/movie thats also a great action movie is Lethal Weapon 1 👊🇬🇧
It’s kind of crazy to know Bruce Willis from Red and not these films or anything he did in the 80s and 90s which was the height of his career. Also, I haven’t had a Twinkie since I was a child, so I don’t really remember the taste, but they’re not minty, are they? Or is toothpaste in the UK typically not minty?
The second movie is not very good but the third movie, Die Hard with a Vengeance starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson is incredibly good! It’s at least as good as this first one in my opinion
Remember, kiddos: If you say that this isn't a Christmas movie, you're wrong!
Iron Man 3. Christmas movie.
Home Alone. Christmas movie.

KP on seeing Alan Rickman in Die Hard, "Professor Snape!"
Me on seeing Alan Rickman when Harry Potter came out. "Hans Gruber?" Yeah, I am that old. 🙂
Alan Rickman got this part less than a month after moving to L.A. Before that he was a stage actor.

The name Nakatomi:
The Nakatomi clan was an influential clan in ancient Japan.
It's not truly Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from the Nakitomi Tower
And Bearer Bonds falling like snow after him.
This was Alan Rickman's first American movie.
It was his first movie, period. If you don't believe me, look it up.

Plus *McClane wouldn't have even been there if it wasn't Christmas.
Yay! This is my favorite Christmas movie and the most debated on whether it’s a Christmas movie or not. 😂

That's a good point at 20:20. He stopped trying to get shoes from these dudes for some reason. After three kills someone's shoes should fit.
also this was bruce first movie and the guy from family maters his first movie too.
The guy from Family Matters was also a cop in Ghostbusters which came out before this movie
"he isn''t wearing shoes..." yiaks!
You critically misspelled "yikes"
the part when he is hanging from the machine gun strap reaching for the vent.....and at first he missed.......that was a blooper...the stuntman missed.....but they kept it in.
Awesome Movie and Work Bro, Thanks!!! Christmas Greetings🎄🎁🎁 from Finland🇫🇮

Office building, Rickman was also the villain in Quiggley Down Under.
The Hotel vs Office Building misunderstanding though…😂

Great reaction. Merry Christmas 🎄
When u said that guy looked like jeffry dahmer I was literally thinking the same thing as you said it 😭
90% of reactors seeing Die Hard for the first time, “He looks like Jeffrey Dahmer!”
That makes seven(?) reactors this Christmas. LOL
@ it’s actually like the billionthm time I just don’t recall it. I might’ve had that exact reaction before, not that I remember 😭
Loved this! My other favorite Christmas movie is The Lion in Winter. Huge names in that one too!
Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie.. just not for anyone under 13. 🤣
I had the opposite effect with Bruce and his hair - I loved Moonlighting so when he went bald in the 90s I didn't recognize him at first!
Merry Christmas 🎁
Even Mr. Bruce Willis himself said that this is NOT a Christmas movie. I, respectfully, disagree...
He said it was not a Christmas Movie, it's a Bruce Willis movie. Christmas Movie and Bruce Willis movie are NOT mutually exclusive categories.

@@BunBun299 Again, respectfully so do I.
When Bruce Willis said it wasn't a Christmas movie he was only being sarcastic.
This was Bruce's first action movie and Allan Rickman's first feature film. The wanted Sylvester Stalone to play John McClain.
Merry Christmas

Christmas miracle!

If you want to see Alan Rickman at his funniest watch him in Dogma and Galaxy Quest
could u watch "The Patriot"?
Try Rickman in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Yes it is.
Please watch the 2nd and 3rd films (also, I’d personally not recommend the final 2 films)
The second movie is not very good but the third movie, Die Hard with a Vengeance starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson is incredibly good! It’s at least as good as this first one in my opinion
NIot a bloody hotel. A bloody business office building. Sigh.
It takes place at Christmas time. I'm not sure that makes something a Christmas movie.
And Die Hard 2 is even better Christmas movie!!
