One of the big things you missed was the fact that for a full priced game it had multiple paid battle passes and a skin store like Fortnite or overwatch 2. Call me old school but battle passes have no right being in full priced games, especially when new content like weapons and vehicles are locked behind grinding a battle pass instead of vehicles being available to everyone on the maps allowed and weapons being unlocked through assignments.
@@heistingcrusader_ad3223 hell yeah man i already have almost 800 hours on that game, whenever i tell people that’s the way battle passes should be in paid games I get told i have unreasonable opinions or that it’s unrealistic and bad lol
Worth noting that modders for BF2 (Forgotten Hope 2) had 128 player servers running as early as 2012. This was without any official support. They were somewhat unstable though and required a restart 1-2 times an evening so they dialed them back to 100 players. Those 100pop servers have been running stable for over a decade now
I would love to see a ww2 era battlefield game with bf1 level immersion and proper post launch support, it really sucks that bf5 got one dlc and got left to die
When they first implemented the scoreboard, you couldn’t see it at the end of the round. As for the squad management, you couldn’t kick people out of your squad cause “it wasn’t healthy ptfo”.
@@NonZenze text chat is on another level of stupid in this game. The word “minigun” is censored and you have miniguns on most vehicles. In some instances, the word “kill” is also censored. Agreed! I watched both JackFrags and LevelCap until BF2042 came out. Then it was crystal clear they were hesitant or even downright avoided criticism for the game and I unsubbed to them immediately after. It was obvious they didn't want to say anything negative about it which is why I couldn't trust their opinions anymore.
Seriously, i dont even want them to be creative anymore just because they will mess it up. Do a remake with the best mechanics from BF3/4, adjust the graphics, add new weapons (maybe new vehicles but not necessary), add new maps and focus on 3-4 gamemodes (TDM, Domination, Rush, CTF with a all sorts of mixes like infantry only, hardcore etc.). Thats literally everything they need to do. Implement a good code and fix your bugs prior to release. I seriously I dont trust their creative process anymore which is sad.
Imagine taking over capture point on top of a tower, losing lots of men, only to here your mate say, “Hey guys, you might wanna see this”, and seeing multiple Hover-crafts climbing there ass up the tower with them fully stocked with players, coming to fuck you up.
@@EndersFPSI think immersion is incredibly important for the battlefield franchise. Battlefield 1 was a good game and should be celebrated for trying something different. I want BF3/4 gunplay with the immersion factor of BF1.
BF1 was fun and chaotic to a falt. Breakthrough was either complete chaos, being run over and everyone being everywhere; or you get spawn camped on the first point. The gameplay loop was fun but not very competitive. Just slap on a meta weapon and run around.
@@Ridi_MB That wasn't a 'beta' where they expected to implement results from - it was only a week before official release ffs! That was just to sell more 'premium' versions for 'early access', pure cash grab.

I remember back in BFV, when people complained about the glacial dev time of new maps and such, that the whole "but they're free now, whereas older Battlefield titles had paid maps, so don't complain" argument was often used to retort that. But, one of the things DICE mentioned was that the idea behind going free maps with a MTX focus was that they could then offer the same amount of maps as before, but that they'd all be free. And that would avoid a problem with older BF games, where their DLC maps were often not popular in servers, because you could only join a server that ran maps you owned. Even back then, DICE promised that the move would give as much, if not more, content that would remain free so that they could use MTX for their revenue instead. And this is all forgetting that EA is earning way, way more from MTX than they ever did the previous DLC packs. So there's really no excuse for that.
wym? back in the day of bf3 battlefield premium was well worth it and i don’t remember anyone not saving up money to buy it. so many great dlcs and maps. every dlc felt like bf3+1. it got better everytime.
Vince Zampella is lead of dice rn, he always cooks. Trust in him, he may not get the game launched well because EA never gives devs enough time but the content and fundamentals will be great at least
As a beginner game developer, im actually shocked, how in the love of jesus they manage to create some useless tornado in 3 years, their game engine must be some sort of shit that it makes full team of developers creating this stuff for so long
After BFV's early cancellation, a shit ton of veteran dice devs were fed up with EA's decision making and left the company to make Embark, including almost the entirety of the Frostbite engine team. So basically the newly hired devs basically were placed into a situation where they had zero experience with frostbite and were forced to learn it from the ground up, which it seems to be what most of the development time set on for a major portion of 2042's development time.
Exactly, that's what I never liked and it was saw as a silly thing that they put natural disasters as the biggest innovation they would bring and launch from the beginning, a complete garbage, putting a tornado in all maps, even in a desert🤣🤣, which at first looked horrible, with trash quality and without any degree of realism, until now they only improved it a little, but it is still garbage, a waste of resources that they could have invested in improving other things or definitely not put it in the game, the only moderately acceptable thing is the sandstorm on some maps, which also needs fixes, but it is more acceptable, EA should have been put those natural disasters little by little or not at all, let's hope for the next Battlefield they better not bring any of that.
Would you believe me if I told you Frostbite is, in fact, notoriously cranky, and was made by a development team who left in an exodus before the game started production proper? Because that would certainly explain three years of work for a tornado.
Well, work for a publisher like EA where you have zero say or creativity on the projects you work on where the investors and executives call all the shots and maybe you won’t be so shocked.
BF3: They ignore the devs and miss out on esports potential BF4: They ignore the devs and launch a broken game BF Hardline: They ignore the community's input entirely BF1: Can't ignore our devs and community if they all just leave :D BFV: They ignore the existence of Battlefield, cuz they have Apex 2042: Literally just stopped trying
…yeah he also said meters, so he might not actually know how firearms work if his nation doesn’t have them. You can hit 100yard shots prone, but standing you’ll be off by the equivalent of a three story building’s height when blasting full auto at 250meters lol
For. Real. What were they thinking? On top of all of this. Every charater is a hero. Why?! Stop selling jank Call of duty Character skins. Just make battlebit but with 2042 graphics! Get rid of the Call of duty movements and sliding (@23:25 why do you think this game has sucked for the last decade? Also No. movement is not needed for a skill gap. ) Why is that so difficult. Scrap the Crazy weather every single map. It comes at the same time every map and it feels like a Déjà vu. Lighten it up at least! Its become a fast and furious game with all the over the top cringe.
@@EndersFPS It needs to have a cool down then. You can't have sweaty (Like myself) players slide cancelling past corners and going crazy in a non sbmm games. Dolphin diving came at a cost. you landed and had to get back up. Slide cancelling has given all games the unrealistic overboard feel. I've been Playing fps for a longgg time. In no game should you be able to slide around like a crack addict over and over and over again its a literal joke. It takes out any sort of realism. In what situation have you been able to power slide yourself out of a real life event once or twice.. let alone 6+ times in a gunfight lol. Just because you and I are good at it doesn't mean it should be in-game. We're gear'd up with all this weight and guns and awkward.. and you expect me to want that physic. I dont know if you've worn a plate carrier irl but you wont be sliding and jumping like a maniac after about 10 seconds. I do love that you've called out all the other problems with the game though thanks for the time and effort you put into this.
To me it killed the squad dynamics. Everyone is just an individual. Instead of support and medic chads dedicating their lives to keep everyone alive & supplied to keep a natural battle front going
I still remember when the Beta dropped and a bunch of people kept defending this trash. The amount of copium was just over the top... Anyone with a brain could tell this was not Battlefield
I remember Dice lying to our faces and saing that build is x months old, suggesting every issue in open beta has been already solved to keep preorders alive.
For me, it was the immersion or lack of that killed the game. BF1 as much as it had it's gunplay and balance problems, the atmosphere was unmatched. There were so many little details that showed the devs cared. Battlefield used to be known for the most accurate depictions of firearms and always showcasing strange unique weapons but with 2042 there are so many basic errors, it's painful.
Man you unlocked memories at the 30:00 min mark! I used to be the heli pilot in BF BC 2, 3 and 4! Growing up is crazy, but also the current state of gaming has it so far removed from my mind. Fun memories tho! Man we used to dog fight in the choppers always had to have the flairs on deck. What a rush lol
This is a bit unrelated but my personal headcanon is that the reason the specialists/heroes have such cringy voicelines is that most of them are canonically Gen Z/Gen Alpha who grew up on Cocomelon.

Makes me wish i had a time machine so i could load up these games like it was back then and play once again. All the times getting drunk playing MW2 Gta 4 online and BF. Funny how times change.
At least the bones of battlefield 4 were good, so it made sense to deal with the early launch issues. This game doesn't look, sound, or feel like a battlefield game
This is was I thought about during the conclusion. I remember playing BF5 and being annoyed about the gunplay, skins, small number of maps etc. and basically everyone around me thought the same: They could not f up the next game. Just do what the fans wanted, and the trailer promised that. But they managed to f it up big time.
Regarding the scoreboard, somebody actually managed to draw a scoreboard in paint. Guess what the devs said. They said "This looks amazing, we did not think of it". The scoreboard looked very similar to the old ones.
23:50 - BF2 also had jump peeking, strafing etc. The movement glitches were quite extent in that game with what you could do. Not as broken as Bf4 but yea. There are guides out there if you want to know more.
The real change that needs to happen is to stop with the pre order, season pass, in game purchase bs and just make a good game that people want to play.
Agreed. You can sorta do it too in BFV and that ones movement was top tier. At least there if you tried bunny hopping and shooting at the same time your aim would suffer for it. They should have at least kept that part.
Best decision I ever made was realizing within 20 minutes of playing on release day that it was identical to the beta game. Refunded it on xbox immediately. Never played it again.
I have still nightmares of the bolt with the 30 mm attack heli canon. I couldnt believe why they thought it was a good idea to put a light, fast tank with infantry shredding canon in the transport class and remember there could be as many as 7 of these vehicles per team.
This game was seriously the most disappointed I’ve ever been at a video game release. I’m sick of how modern FPS games have come out. The sliding/ slide cancelling, bunny hopping, etc. I seriously think the hardcore FPS games will flourish in the next few years because of it. Games like 6 days in Fallujah, rising storm 2, HLL have given such a different way to play an FPS without the coked out sweatyness. But at the very least just make a game that plays like BF3
Bad Company and Battlefield 3 are my cousins favorites, mf was legit number one player in the world at one point. I tell you no lies and that’s to say he was ABSOLUTELY devastated when the game released. I bought it cuz I liked 4 and figured me and cuz could have sum to play together other than gta lmaoo. Anyways we played it day one, waited a few weeks for patches and kept playing up until season one started and according to him he just couldn’t play it cuz it wasn’t the Battlefield he knew and loved. It was actually quite sad to witness it he still plays 4 on his pc every now and then so it does satisfy that itch he got lol.
You mentioned the guns and the dismally low recoil, leading to laser behaviour, and I think there's a pretty good solution to this for the next game that would be much more in line with how people want Battlefield to play. Physicalise the weapons. I've been playing a lot of Helldivers and some Insurgency Sandstorm, and both games treat the gun as a physics oblect with real interaction with the environment. This allows recoil to be properly simulated by imparting a force onto a physics object, and means that projectiles leave the barrel properly, instead of coming from the sight or the player's face. This would then make attachments even more useful, because they could change the effect of the recoil physics in a simulated manner, rather than just as numbers on a spreadsheet. It would also make hip-fire a lot more intuitive, because the bullets would actually just go where the barrel is pointing, not wherever in a crosshair on screen.
This is only viable in milsims because it adds a host of complications like larger weapons getting hung up on tight corridors and just sucks for fast-paced gameplay. Really they just need BF4's post-update system where bullets come out of your torso, so you can't headglitch, and more agressive recoil and/or spread
@@KekusMagnus I get your point, but I don't think it would be as much of a problem as you say it does. The prison map in Sandstorm is basically just Operation Locker, and with a full server, it can get pretty chaotic in there, but I've never seen the weapons get stuck on anything or really cause issues. Helldivers, by comparison, is very arcade-y, and I spend just as much time running away from giant bugs or leaping off hills as I do shooting and calling in airstrikes, but the guns have never been a problem for me during. The only time Helldivers' weapons have been an issue is when I need to shoot a bug up close, and that's only because the laser/third person sight get a bit funky at melee range. Mostly, the developers of both games seem to get around it by carefully animating the characters so that the weapons don't clip through things or cause problems, which is something Dice has always been good at. I understand your point that doing it like BF4 would be the best option, but I think the Battlefield playerbase would actually appreciate a total change to the way the guns work, after how bad weapon handling and recoil has been in 2042.
As for BF3 I remember the best vehicle loop balance: a good jet or hopter pilots could terorise the server but unless there is a good antiaircraft vehivle, which afraid of good tank pilots, which afraid of jets and hopters and so forth. So when everything is in balance on the server you could experience everything within one game: a bit of god power, a bit intence duel and feel lot of fun when situation chanegs upsite down several times per match. I wish to experience this again one day.
This is why I think that Bad Company 2 (which I think was made for consoles in particular) worked so well was because with lower player counts they could make smaller, tighter, and better playing maps rather than large, open environments to encompass a ridiculously high player count.
The difference in polish between Battlefield 1 and 2042 is way too obvious. A single screenshot of Battlefield 1 has 10x the atmosphere of an entire match of 2042.
As someone who's played since the glory days (who remembers the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942?), the closest they got to grasping the true essence of Battlefield was Battlefield 1. I honestly thought it was the beginning of a renaissance. Instead, it was its swan song. If they are to revive Battlefield, they need to look back at Battlefield 1942, and Battlefield 2 - both games of which that truly grasped the essence of Battlefield. I also adored Battlefield Vietnam and Battlefield 2142. For now, at least we have Battlebit; it's the closest we've gotten to reliving Battlefield in its original glory.
"You can dolphin dive in BF2" What a false equivalent. That's like saying BO1 is Helldivers because you can dive in it. It makes sense if you ignore everything else around it
As a dogfighter in BF titles (learned to dogfight in BF3/4, ending up by having more than 10000 fighter plane kills in BF1, near 20000 kills combined by all planes in BF5), the jet in 2042 is easily the worst in all the series. The control make me feel I'm controlling a paper plane or a piece of fallen leaf instead of a jet fighter, the cannons feel like peeing, and the rocket pod added later is just a pure joke. And also, still no server browser for the main game is one of the worst decisions they had ever made.
Another note to add to the maps section is the fact there are no sea maps at all. What happened to being able to jump into a boat and go island to island or flank around the map?
In battlefield 2 maps would have specific boundaries for 16,24,32 and 64 player settings. Ever since battlefield 3 they just have conquest and conquest large for 48 and 64 which at the time of 7th gen consoles was basically a way to make a console version and a pc version. The 8th generation of consoles should have fixed this but they seemingly just kept these versions. It reeks of modern game dev laziness compared to the past.
People blame EA for this game, but I thoroughly believe the devs at DICE were fully cognitive and believed this game would be good. They should all lose their jobs.
I still cannot believe that in a year that saw Battlefield, Call of Duty and Halo go head to head for the first time since 2015, Call of Duty VANGUARD was the game I enjoyed the most...
Honestly I was so hyped to see real desteuctable environments come back but had learned at that point to just wait for real reviews to come out sad that battlefield seemed to peak for me around bad company 2 and bf3
I remember getting BF2042 for Christmas, hating it instantly, and stopped playing when BFV came out on PS plus. Also never knew BFV was hated so much bc when I started playing in 2021 I had tons of fun with it. Especially compared to what I had bought for 70 bucks just a few months earlier
I can't for the life of me think why they thought puting an objective at the top of a buildings coupled with being able to drop in vehicles a good idea..and on 3 MAPS hourglass, kaleidescope and orbital 99% of the time you lost but the few times using the hover craft and literally hopping from building to building climbing the side and catching the enemy team and vehicles all fixated on the elevator off guard and winning was super satisfying. Only launch worse than this was cyberpunks.
32:46 see thats also a major problem; most of us dont play on super high end systems but rather high mid to low high end and look at these frame drops when 1 grenade goes off on a high end setup, thats cringe for a AAA-game...😂
Something must have happened during the development that made this game change course, cause so many things point to that this was at some point in time intended to be a followup to BF3 & BF4. Just look at the trailer; The rendezook, the Damavand basejump, the noshair containers - it all screamed BF3 & BF4. Heck, even Pac and Irish was in one trailer. It looked dark, gritty and like a true followup to the proper battlefield-games, and what we then got was something completely different.
Dolphin diving in bf2 did not allow to spray and pray and it would get u killed close quarters.... bf trying to become cod and fortnites bastard child is the big fail, and no dude bro beard bro with a fkin man bun should be allowed to do with anything to do with a strategic war game......
I have put hundreds or thousands of hours into each battlefield from Bad Company 2 to BF1. Battlefield 5 got maybe 50-60 hours. 2042 I think I played for like 3 hours and put it down. My favorite franchise and I just couldn't do it. I still bought it, so they won in that respect but I'll be very cautious to buy the next one.

Worth noting that modders for BF2 (Forgotten Hope 2) had 128 player servers running as early as 2012. This was without any official support.
They were somewhat unstable though and required a restart 1-2 times an evening so they dialed them back to 100 players.

That game was extremely polished at launch

“Don't be sad this is just how it works out sometimes.”
Literally the ignorant talking about what they don't really understand.
Well, work for a publisher like EA where you have zero say or creativity on the projects you work on where the investors and executives call all the shots and maybe you won’t be so shocked.

But at the very least just make a game that plays like BF3
can't wait to be disappointed again when the next title launch
Bad Company and Battlefield 3 are my cousins favorites, mf was legit number one player in the world at one point. This is great Enders. Appreciate especially the clips covering from prelaunch to end of support
Played BF1 and BFV religiously over thousand hours. BF2042 i gave them 2 years was completely bored. Only good maps was on portal lol
I agree, BF2042 and BFV were big letdowns.
Perfect way to start of a sunday
This is why I think that Bad Company 2 (which I think was made for consoles in particular) worked so well was because with lower player counts they could make smaller, tighter, and better playing maps rather than large, open environments to encompass a ridiculously high player count.
Love it. Bro called the Junkers 88a the Jubba
The difference in polish between Battlefield 1 and 2042 is way too obvious. A single screenshot of Battlefield 1 has 10x the atmosphere of an entire match of 2042.

The next 2 titles to bridge the gap for me will be Space Marine & Gears.
I miss battlefield 1942 and battlefield 1, so much. Battlefield was my favorite fps series, once upon a time...
A REAL campaign, no more BS short stories! BF4 style training area! Keep it modern not retro or “near future” speculative crap! IMHO😊
"You can dolphin dive in BF2"
What a false equivalent. That's like saying BO1 is Helldivers because you can dive in it. It makes sense if you ignore everything else around it
I would love to see you do a breakdown shredding each map and discussing what works in other Battlefield maps
To be fair, not even Battlefield 5 had that for the most part until the Pacific update.
Make Battlefield Great Again!!
I put ketchup on my pancakes
Naaaaaah
People blame EA for this game, but I thoroughly believe the devs at DICE were fully cognitive and believed this game would be good. They should all lose their jobs.
The switch from 2042 footage to BF5 footage was such a whiplash
how does BF5 look like 4 times better?
I still cannot believe that in a year that saw Battlefield, Call of Duty and Halo go head to head for the first time since 2015, Call of Duty VANGUARD was the game I enjoyed the most...
The "Nostalgia bait" Trailer was for people who watched clips of gameplay rather then people who enjoyed the series for decades
