OF course Lugansky is terrific. Always is. What strikes me with him is his humanity. Other artists play in a way that is amazing, but Lugansky is human to the core. Wonderful. BUT, can we all share our hands for the utterly amazing Rudenko!!! He kicks ass like a massive maestro. He's just as terrific as Lugansky.

It is reported that Rachmaninoff and Horowitz played this at a dinner party in Los Angeles in 1940 on the spur of the moment.
    Can you imagine?

Their ensemble is spectacular. It’s one thing to be two brilliant soloists, but these two have fabulous ensemble as well.

This is one of the best performances of ANY of Rachmaninoff’s music that I have ever heard. Stupendous!
Beyond the breathtaking energy the balance, the phrasing, the style, the “intonatia” are all of the highest level attainable by humans.

Agreed, it's right up there with the performance of this same piece by Ashkenazy and Previn several decades ago!

I have no idea how these two manage to get 7:28-7:45 so in sync. Some real musical connection to nail that section.

Funny you say that. I've turned for this piece. Yes, with 4 lines per system and a tempo of presto (full measure = 96) you start to feel like you're just dealing a poker table or something for the whole tarantella. I just looked at the music. It's mostly 3 systems per page, 15 measures in all for one page. Yeah.

After having listened to Rocky's complete piano works repeatedly for the last half year, I must say this one waltz is my favorite of them all, with Des Larmes a distant second. The rest seem to me rather overblown, too dependent on figurations for their effect. This performance rushes a bit too much for me,, but the longing rubatoes still carry the sensuous delight I particularly love in the best of Rocky's work.

I agree, the charm is lacking in some areas but the synchronicity is amazing. Then again, these are two Russian horses playing who is not known for their spontaneity, can't blame them for playing to their strengths
