- My thoughts on the 1988 Mazda Rx7 with a Bridgeported 1.3L 13b Rotary engine, and 5 speed manual transmission.
Stock Second Generation Rx7s are fun, but really only 85% of the power you would expect the car to have. I love FCs to death, but the power can be underwhelming. Thats where the bridgeport comes in. After a bridgport, the FC is 100% what it should be. If Rx7s are cheeseburgers, adding a bridgeport is like adding bacon to that burger: It's just better.
But what about drivability? Just like the rest of life, it has it's ups and downs. You get a sweet soundtrack to every drive, but then again a 2k rpm idle and atrocious gas consumption doesn't exactly make it the best grocery getter.
Would I port my car. Yes. Yes I would. You really think I'd turn down bacon on my cheeseburger?
you lose mpg, it adds heavy noise, the bigger the ports the less comfort... I LIKE IT 😜

175hp on a Bridgeport? that's it?!? that's mild streetport kind of power. should be making at LEAST 200hp mid 200's.
the s4 intake is holding it back a lot the stock NA manifold falls flat after 7500 rpm and they cant flow enough air thats why it only makes that power

Hot Funk Garage yes but not much maybe 190-200 with a tune my 6port 1/2bridge makes like 280whp but it's carbed and has a super short fat runners has none of that wonderful tq below 3000rpm that s4 mani has. And that's the same tq he was complaining about should try a car set up for the bridge hahaha its got like half of what that car has below 3000rpm. I know because I did this haha and 280 whp was very hard lots of work

S5 intake on a S4 doesn't make more power, it's just broader. For NA ''big power'' a 4 port is needed because they flow more.

Was that 170 to the wheels? That's more in the realm of 200 brake when comparing it to the stock 140
abracing199 172 hp 140 ftlbs at the wheels on a dynojet which I'm told usually gives numbers about 10% less than actual.
Not bad for a driveable car if i may cut asmuch length out of that intake mani i cut the lower under the flange and the upper between the two 90s from the tb to lower IM made the thing way more fun and rx8 trans two best things to take a na 1/2bridge to the next level

Wouldn't it probably have been more efficient if he just grabbed some MSP high compression rotors and street ported the thing? I love the sound and all but If he only gets 30-some more horsepower and his gas mileage dies wouldn't efficiency be a better way to go with it?
Right-Wing Internet Mang I get 20 cruising, and 16 city. It's not the peak hp I gained it's the 140ftlbs from 3500 to 7k that make the bridge worth it.
The apex seals in rx8 rotors are different from rx7 rotors and need modification to work. The s5 na rotors would be the best bet, as they are still 9.7:1 comp. vs the 9.4:1 comp. In the s4. I've also heard that there's no power to be gained from the 10:1 comp. over the 9.7:1. Conclusion get some s5 rotors, get them lightened and go for some solid apex seals over 3pc.

If you can tune them, Carbs can be great!

Okay maybe not 300 whp. Definitely flywheel hp though. So 250-270rwhp. Even Street ports get over 200!
On a side note.. Very clean car! :o
nope yull be lucky to make 250whp even with a pport its alot of ponies for these cars, NA isnt the way to make power, do some research youll see a street port will net you 170-180 whp if everything is 100% a full bridge will get you make 200-210whp and a PPort will get you 220-240 whp on 6port engines all these numbers will go up 20% maybe a bit more if there 4 port block with S5 rotors if 13b was easy to make even 250whp there would be alot more people driving them

Ricardo Malaquias. An rx8 6 port already makes the kind of power a traditional rotary makes with very serious porting. Like the s200 engine theres just not a lot left practically speaking in NA form.
For some perspective, the Hyabusa is the same displacement and is considered to be an awesome and very powerful engine.... it makes less power and way less torque than the low output 4 port renesis.

174 (wheel or crank hp) is weak af. Bridgeporting a 6port engine only gives you that meme rotary idle sound. The stock 6port 13b is close to the limit of what hp late port timing is going to give you, a street port would have likely yielded similar dyno results without the torque loss or driveability issues. Also, making a rotary rev high is not a product of porting but rather a lightened and rebalanced rotating assembly, stronger stationary gears, and oil system modifications.
i found one of these like 3 weeks ago as a shell but the body and interior looked clean af. just needed paint and a drive system (carburated v8 or v6 swap lol wish)

This is known as a Half Bridge is this still a 6 port engine? that could be a lack of power as the ports are already massive half bridge or full bridge a 4 port block will yeild more powah, you need to get in a turbo fc or fd.. ur gunna shit your self

Benz Boy Up to you, however i would look up the process of maintenance on the car. But if it sat, just do an oil swap. Since there's practically less than 10 moving parts in the engine you really have nothing to worry about. Most people turn the engine manually by turning the radiator fan, so that the apex seals get oil on it first, for lubrication. Than they turn the engine, but you don't have to do that if you don't want to.
