Thanks for making this video, it reminds me of when I used to street drive my RX4 with 13b bridgeport and 51IDA Weber (48IDA bored out to 51mm, also had an extension welded onto the fuel bowl). It looks like your 12A goes well and it sounds great.

You can street them, people have done it forever. It won't wash in states/provinces where exhaust emissions testing is necessary to register your car though because bridgeported engines produces an absolutely *MASSIVE* amount of pollution. They are just completely, utterly terrible for that. They are also really picky about exhaust system backpressure so you'll just kill most of the power increase by using a cat converter in the exhaust--and that goes double if you want your car to be reasonably quiet. I would trade the slight power increase from putting an electric fan instead of an engine driven fan over the slight power increase of running no air filter any day! And not to be a dick, but running no air filter is the silliest thing someone can do to an internal combustion engine. It’s not the leaves and cigarette butts and crickets You have to worry about sucking in, it’s the tiniest particles that float freely through the air that are able to get in between load bearing and sealing surfaces…

An old school trick you should do is to use a stock 2nd gen leading coil to wasted-spark fire the leading plugs. It eliminates the need to run the leading plug wires through the cap/rotor system, it adds a third spark at the very end of each power cycle supplementing the stock trailing system, its practically free to do, and if you add an MSD box you can end up with 5 to 10 sparks per power cycle as opposed to the factory 2. After airflow, ignition is the most important thing you can improve on a rotary, due to their poor combustion chamber dynamics.
For this one I just have hotter coils, nothing too crazy! The next rendition of this engine will be 10k plus rpm and a fancy ignition system will be needed foe sure!! I have done the MSD box with direct fire leading in the past. It worked great!!

A 12A Bridgey is one of life’s greatest pleasures!
Rotaries kinda remind me of the Lexus LFA, everything in the name of the spinning Dorito
The LFA is epic. Just like the rotary. Such a unique sound!!
Brother what was the reason why it was bogging at 2.5000 revs ?
Hey,
Like the car, like de build, nice video and sound recording 👌
I got a '84 12A FB and i ask myself how many horsepower could make a bridgeport 12A with good tunned carbs and appropriate exhaust line?
An idea of yours?
Thank you sir!!! I'd say Probabaly over 200.
I am the original owner of a 1980 Rx7 Mazda, its garaged & ready to get back on the road. Do you work on both of your R 7s? My Rx7 is totally stock & original. Going to check out your Rx7 videos.
