I'm so happy to find your channel! I've been aimlessly noodling for a decade and picked up a lot of great skills and guitar knowledge but I havent really learned anything in a very long time.
I simply cannot thank you enough for this video Matt. The information about using way too much force with our left hand has been invaluable to me personally and my playing it instantly changed my flow and speed and I mean instantly. I couldn't wait to get home from work to try it and it works. Now in the coming days and weeks I am going to work on the tips you mentioned for the picking hand. Thanks again. I have subscribed.
The first step to fixing these is being aware of them! Even after playing guitar for more than half of my life I still have to remind my left hand to chill out sometimes!
i just started playing guitar 3 weeks ago! i found this very very helpful and i notice i make these mistakes already! beautiful playing and great advice, thank you!!
Cool list and food for thought, Matt... re: trying to "deconstruct" a solo etc. and figuring out its "origin" scale / sequences etc. I've seen that topic come up a bit more and more but its always a bit of a mystery to me as to how to approach that... write out the notes and try to figure out what scale they fit into ? I'd like to explore it a bit more but I'm not so sure *how* to go about it... Maybe a video showing your approach would shed some light... Thanks again !
Glad you enjoyed the video! That's a really really good idea for a video! Deep waters to think of how to convey it in a 10 minute youtube video but I'll start pondering it!
its all good just as a lefty its easy to get lost ....the biggest thing new players make the mistakes on is strumming we dont have that rhythm yet as for over pressure on the chords it helps to build callouses faster ..which is not a bad thing eventually you adjust your pressure and your finger tips start to hurt less ......a trick i learned i a simple chord exercise go from Em to G to A 3 times and fast as you can and then do it back wards ....the result is you start to learn how much pressure you really need ...and quickly ....not to mention it sounds pretty cool ...finger nails is another got to keep them short so they dont get in the way the longer they are the more pressure you will have to apply to achieve the effect you want and the more your fingers will hurt as a result no body told me this , i learned it the hard way LOL

I enjoyed your videos. I make all the mistakes. I am a guitarist with no direction hoping i will find the answer some day.
Everybody has to start somewhere, it'll come together with time!
please say fretting hand or strumming hand I am a lefty so its the exact opposite of you from me FYI left strums..... right frets
Fair enough, my apologies!

I’m not guilty of any of these mistakes…that makes me a non guitarist 😮
