      No Daughters (early daughters) or Number 12, or even Norma Jean……. Jane Doe (2001) and Axe To Fall (2009) by Converge is a straight up mathcore album

    missing some Starkweather, Deaguy/Kiss it Goodbye, Knut, Anodyne, The Locust, and Daughters. Would also add Car Bomb in the later year. Otherwise pretty good list.

      i consider odd times to be more a staple of prog. not to speak for all mathcore bands, but the majority is in 4.

    Shout out to Human Remains (one of the first tech death bands) and Rorschach (one of the first metalcore bands). Lethargy is kickass too and their guitarist/vocalist also put out good stuff in his earlier band Matrikhore.

    i wish there were more metal influenced mathcore bands. there's like 6 bands in the entire genre that are good. the rest of the genre is predominantly hardcore influenced. that's pretty much the only reason i prefer prog metal, otherwise i would probably exclusively be into mathcore.

      Agreed. You'll find a lot of people distance themselves from those two bands because they were "scene" bands.
      I saw them when they were nobodies at a community center before Martyr came out.
      When O God, The Aftermath came out I hated it, and ignored them for years.
      Same with The Chariot, after first album just ignored everything.
      Then somehow I ended up going back and having like 9 albums to discover, and I don't think either band has a bad album.
      If I can put you on to something you might not know about: listen to Underoath before Dallas Taylor left the band.
      So their first album, and especially their first 2 EP's. Incredible music that lots of people don't even know about.

    Hey man I don’t usually listen to straight mathcore or whatever usually only listen to death metal bands that have elements of it in the music but I was curious stumbled on this code and it’s such a huge breath of fresh air to hear that band Telos so I went and bought the album and the first song within reach blew me away so sick

      It's an impossible genre to define. Lots of people like to call Ion Dissonance grindcore. Human Remains is often also considered grindcore. Mathcore is almost like a catch-all term for a wide variety of bands.
      I've seen Fear Before The March Of Flames described as mathcore.

    well, this video kinda missed inbetween genre evolution.
    bands mention before 1994 have nothing to do with mathcore.
    ben weinman sited dazzling killmen as inpiration, so the proper way would be to start with early math rock bands in general. butterglove, breadwinner, dazzling killmen, don caballero.

    this is mathcore?i had a complete misunderstanding of it because the name implies technical drumming and lots of 1/8 and 1/16 notes.

      A lot of the example songs used were 4/4 basic bish sections, but these bands generally do use the time-signatures and changes.

      Vein and Knocked Loose are not Mathcore. They're modern examples of Metallic Hardcore. Similar genre, but less technical and chaotic.

      Metallic hardcore is just extra hardcore metalcore they are definitely inspired by converge dillinger at least a little bit

      Metalcore is essentially the same thing.
