    They are not talking only the reception but also amateur ham radio these mfg company have just recently found the electric motors interfere heaviest on AM and AMsupported SSB radios but didnt expect the transmission style would interfere with the electronics and motors of the vehicle

    When the radio got interference from the car motor 50’s thru 70’s a suppressor was installed

    I've been in the aftermath of various storm situations without electricity and with cell towers downed; there is nothing more valuable than a battery operated transistor radio, period.

      Any kind of radio really, DSP based or transistor based, or the radio older but newer than transistor analog on chip (Sony ICF-P26 as example) doesn't matter. New radios are all DSP based. There hasn't been a transistor based receiver made in years.
      A decent shortwave radio would be best (a TECSUN PL-330, or Eton Elite Executive as example of a few)

    I live in an area where cell phones and mobile data does not work.
    We use am radio because fm is spotty also.

    As an engineer - I`d like to say. It`s very very difficult to isolate electromagnetic radio-frequency noises of power electronics - like an electro-car. There using switching power supplies or electric motor electronic drivers. They working in pulse mode to achieve high efficiency - and therefore producing electromagnetic noises. For example - if we turn on AM radio in a flat of any city - there was lot of noise. Only local power AM station sounds clearly.

    Can't FM frequencies can not broadcast emergency message ?

    I recently bought a new Volvo, and was not aware they axed am. Yes it is necessary to reach citizen a national emergency. But also, highway conditions. Found out I didn’t have AM the hard way after sliding off the interstate (going 30mph). I would have known if I could of tuned I to the am station. Tried to find info online, radio apps, none of it had information about the highway condition. Even the DOT site, and either way that website is just trash.

    The problem of EMI could be reduced or even removed by correct shielding but it can add to cost of production. But another issue among many to have to confront with electric vehicles.

      You can get the same information, but without Cellular and internet infrastructure, no you can't. AM receivers are bulky and wouldn't fit in a cell phone.

    I for one dont see the need for AM radio, in mid-coast ME it's garbage, always has been for the past 60 years. My first car was in 1975, AM had about a dozen stations and none of them had good sound, today it's nothing but garbled staticky sound, while FM is crystal clear all over ME. So if they get rid AM in cars I could care less and it's a none issue, people need to focus more on todays real issues not this antiquated has-been AM radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    There goes the federal government interfering with private enterprise again. Car manufacturers simply must be free to remove AM radio so they can charge us for the added expense - dealer radio prep.

      Yes, I remember when Republican/Conservative legislators believed in a hands-off approach to what decisions manufacturers made with their own product. Now that their voices won’t be heard as much, they want to intervene

  • @ME-yp7fn
    @ME-yp7fn Год назад +6

    I do think all they need is to install a radio filter circuit, and if they tune the engine frequency using some sort of Machine Learning method they can get the right filter on a circuit or a circuit combined with a software.

    • @bloggerccc
      @bloggerccc Год назад

      Filtering won't work. A sloppy motor/control system design permits cars to generate interference at the same frequencies as are used lawfully by the radio stations. The filter needs to be in the car. The radio's just fine.

  • @madmax2069

    It's a massive issue, MW/AM radio stations can travel thousands of miles depending on output power (shortwave which uses the AM mode travels across the world). All car manufacturers need to do is have frequency filters in the vehicle to block the interference from the electric motor.
    Internet isn't reliable, during a natural disaster it's usually the first thing to go down (if the ISP loses power your internet goes down, same with cell towers, if the coax on the pole gets hit by a tree or something the internet will go down for anyone that's connected by that main line, same for cell towers). in the middle of nowhere you're usually not going to be getting cell service to be able to stream anything. I can pretty much guarantee you that in the middle of nowhere you're going to receive at least a few AM stations, oh and AM doesn't require an ISP or cell service to operate of it wasn't obvious.

      Sorry, no. An input filter at the radio frequency will reduce the station signal by the same amount. Result = Zero improvement.
