- Arriving in Suzhou felt like such a luxury. After 3 days of sweaty hiking and sleep deprivation we were relieved to get some much needed rest and recovery time. I might have...lost it a bit...when we arrived at our gorgeous hotel, the Pan Pacific Suzhou. We had a great time exploring several Suzhou gardens and go to the Tongli Water Town which is often compared to Venice because of the quaint canals and old buildings.

Legend says those traveler youtuber who went to China, will eventually become a food tour youtuber
lol
Hahaha you said it, man
Exactly
mainly because a lot of them don't know any of the history or culture and don't have time to learn any. food is the only thing they can understand.
I really enjoyed this video. My wife and I were in China in May of 2019 and we stayed in the same hotel and ate at the same restaurant across the street as you in Suzhou. What nice memories of the trip. We absolutely loved China and your videos are awesome.
That’s so cool! It was such a neat hotel, glad you enjoyed reliving the memories.
OMG Suzhou is SUPER gorgeous the city the art the whole vibe just so fancy
I miss China so much, the food, the atmosphere at night, the beautiful lights and the thousand years of history :(
The Tongli water town is so magnificent. Never imagined such a refreshing and traditional place in Jiangnan area of China
I need to go back to China once... It's been so many years since I lived there
I’ve been following your trips around China since the first video was uploaded and finally there is the video of my hometown! Hope you enjoyed the trip in Suzhou. ❤️
苏州人还挺多啊
The English translation on that menu just cracks me up.
they use Google trans
This is the channel I was looking for! Thumb up for you guys! You are doing an amazing job.
This is the city I’m from, historical and modern scenes combined in one place.
Just beautiful. Architect is like going back to ancient China. The place doesn't seem crowded either. So gorgeous.
I'm so happy that you enjoyed the lingering gardens! From the calligraphy on the walls to the bonsai garden, the view around every corner is just so atmospheric.
Suzhou is the Venice of China. Very beautiful. Pretty great for a city that is also known for SIP, Suzhou Industrial Park. The reason I have visited for work many times over the years. Enjoy! Hopefully I can get back soon... Oh and what I call the exploded fish! :)
The transitions of each scene especially the street crossing were nice lol
同里 original name is 富土。It means “Rich Land.” Since most Chinese is humble people, they move 田 from first character to second character.
原来是这样!
@@tianwenma8598 竖着写就好理解了:
富 同
土 里
差异只有一个点。(不过据说是为了显得穷好避税)
中国人很容易满足,家里有一口田就感觉“富”了
The views from the bedroom are everything
Peaceful and relaxing life in Tongli...What a refreshing perspective
As a world known restaurant, what is your most famous dish? - Dish? No, it is a menu. LOOOOOOL
I traveled around my country before I came to the states for studying, and I saw soooo many menus like that one, hahahaha
From China, living in Seattle now!
first 4minutes are so adorable........... keep wandering keep smiling
My favorite channel. I can watch this on rerun all day
Omg I can't believe you actually went to Tongli. It's where my great grandma was from and I still have a couple of distant cousins living there. I remember they started charging visitors for entering the town many years ago after it became famous. There was this old grandpa that sold home made stinky tofu on the street and it was delicious. I hope he's still there next time I go back to visit
The menu made my day. LMAO. As a Chinese I totally understand what's happening there.
As a Chinese, I would say, the menu is really hilarious!!!!!! LOL.....but it's really hard to translate......
because chinese give funny names to dishes, and when it translate its even funnier
So, that fish is called a "Squirrel Fish" because the sound it should make when you pour the sweet and sour sauce on the freshly fried fish is this squeaking sound like a squirrel. The finished result does resemble a pinecone, though.
That fruit skewer thing is traditionally made with hawthornes/crabapples. You got a more experimental one with different fruits. Not sure why they put a tomato on it, but tomatoes occupy an odd niche between fruits and vegetables.
Ah, the Pan-Pacific. Excellent chain of hotels which I've never stayed at, unfortunately.
The "form dollar hoof" is actually this sweet red-braised ham hock which is melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
Sidenote: are you from the American South by any chance? You have a drawl that tends to come out when you are excited about stuff, like puppies or candy.
Love your travel videos and your laughter is so infectious :-).
I grew up in China 20 years ago. I find that it is so inconvenient to not to have Chinese mobile phone service while travelling over there these days. Everything is on mobile, making payment, booking a taxi, you name it.
As a foreigner, although you can't easily just get a sim card at the airport, it's still easy to sort it out with any major phone service providers. They have lots of retail outlets in every city, just need to provide your passport as ID. Well worth the hassle.
Thanks for making these videos!
That sugar tomato fruits on a stick, they didn't do it right, its a northern winter street sweet n you traditionally use Chinese hawthorn which is citrusy sour and a hint of bitter. In the north at way below freezing temperature you put it on a stick and dip it in boiling hot sugar, what should happen is it immediately freezes so its crispy sugary and hot at the same time, not to mention the sour and sweet evens out so you're left with that fresh hawthorn taste, also because the sugar is sticky so the sour sweet taste lasts for a while. What you had was a mimic n nowadays they use....tomatoes n pineapple...sigh...btw I used to live close to Siberia, so north, way north....Jon Snow north!!!
I like it so much that you guys are always positive. cheers
A tip,in China, you can call the front desk and ask if you can check out later. Most hotels will agree to a delay of one to two hours.😊
Love your personality and your video, it makes me want to travel to there now :D
Hi Clarie, do you know that SuZhou is famous for its gardens?
Vlog is great, Suzhou is a beautiful city
Omg that instrument I had one at home but I could barely make a sound with it
I haven't been to so many cities in China (as a Chinese). Thank you Claire for your wonderful sharing.
Wow! My hometown! Glad you had some fun there
You should go to Suzhou Museum (the new one), it’s designed by famous architect.it’s really astonishing
This is my hometown!!! Love it!
Taxi is not expensive at all in suzhou. easily accessible by apps and they are very comfortable.
Welcome to my hometown!
Splendid garden and landscape.
Man, that menu is priceless!
That name of the big plate dish is literally big plate chicken in Chinese ;)
I can't believe you guys finished all that food
i am proud of my hometown!!!
I had that type of fish in Suzhou as well. Although that was not in the old city like Claire did. I had it in some high class restaurant they recommended me.
The cuisine is sweet as hell.
The fruit you ate looks more like hawthorn than tomato. Its covered with sugar. Think of it as the Chinese equivalent to a toffee apple you eat at fun fairs.
A great video, love it
Oh my god I actually stayed at this hotel! They had a delicious buffet with cakes and coffee.
Our room was not nearly as nice haha
the hotel looks gorgeous
The area around Suzhou is beautiful as hell.
The temple explode chicken cube is just Kong Pao chicken. BTW I love Su Zhou
"No. 1 risk of death in China is from cars", that's literally true 😂, and it is a shame. I hope we can do better about that, I heard some cities like Hangzhou, the drivers will be fined if they don't yield to pedestrians.
Fairytale Because China is safe, there are fewer deaths from other causes
Lol ! I really want to help you guys when you order. Sugar coated tomato is wired and not a normal snack! The most common ones are sugar coated hawthorn or strawberry. And you guys ordered a Xinjiang cuisine in Suzhou??! That's strange. It won't be authentic of course. You may enjoy more of your journey when you put some effort to look what to eat :) Have fun!
Omg, I planed to watch the last video then into sleep after hours of viewing your videos, but this video just made me can’t stop laughing when you read the menu, I have to admit that your videos are all full of joy, but you made me no sense of sleep at such a late night, and you need to hold the responsibility, and we always welcome you back to China for more fun contents. Hahaha
09:52, the menu is really hilarious. LOL
That's my city!!!
your videos are good. I'm shocked not seeing 100k subscribers!!! :-(
With time, I won't be surprised that she will get more than that
The menu makes my day. So funny.
Your channel is sooooo funny. So, hey your new subscriber here.
Suzhou is (in)famous in China for having food that is sweeter on the palate. Those who are used to Chinese food abroad (unrecognisable in China itself) love it.
Hey this is where I'm from! The hotel u stayed at, when it was first built, was a five-star Sheraton. Now is Pan Pacific, not sure if they still have that many stars now lol
Well, actually, you are visiting the best city in China historically. There is an old saying, 上有天堂,下有苏杭。Heaven is up the sky, and Suzhou & Hangzhou is on the ground.
the dish got the name from the sound, not by how it looks lol, so apparently after you pour the sugary sauce onto the fried fish, it makes the sound of a squirrel? Well i personally have never heard it bc each time the serve the dish with sauce already poured on, so yeah im curious about what it actually sounds like.
I think it tries to say farmer grass, but m was too close on keyboard to the column sign haha.
Fun, very interesting. Cheers
Tonli has some simulated classical building, not really the original ones, as very few ancient architecture actually survived.
That menu is hilarious...
you are so happy
I remembered the menu you had in tongli I think we've visited the same restaurant
Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
10:03 you must read the menu with computer keyboard, lol , for exemple: far, er grass cjoclem = farmer grass chicken, well it still not the precise translation, but it starts make sense , right?
hahaha eveytime i watch your video i laugh so hard. Your are just so funny! love from China
That gotta be the Sheraton hotel, hahaha. It’s my first choice when traveling to Suzhou years ago.
Subscribed! What a beautiful place to visit!
Yeah the ginger candy is really weird
"Never play chicken with a Chinese car!!" hahahahahhahahahaha
Where my family came from about over hundred year ago.
amazing~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amazing Video
I've been googling the hotels you've been in just so I could calculate if I could afford a trip to China
I think I may have stayed at the same hotel a while ago.
this hotel is near my college, very famous design
And those small stone mountain in the garden was taking from the bottom of the lake. It could be ridiculously expensive...
I saw all your videos, very good, welcome you again, I can give you a free guide.
不需要如此过分友好。
SuZhou is now even an economically more productive city than Shenzheng, from the stats of 2019. And culturally speaking, SuZhou has always been known for it's aesthetics throughout history. So unsurprisingly, your probably one of the best experiences in hotels there. lol.....Great videos!!
i think you guys can use alipay or wechat pay in China. It is more convenient
love to see you taking meal
Did they use Google translate for the menu ?
Wow!!!!
haha the English translation menu made me laugh........like they are trying really hard to make you understand.
Take the original plum on sticks, that is the best!
The menu at 10.11 the temple explode the chicken cube is hillarious
It's one of Angela Merkel's favourites. When she went to Sichuan, she made time to learn it from the chef there.
that's Kung Pao Chicken
Claire: "I've been looking for candies for days here..."
.
Justin: "You're an addcit!"
Claire: "Nothing nobody has any candies in here....."
.
Justin: "You're an addict!"
Good accountability friend, Justin.
LOL
How do you know which bus to take and where to alight??
@
ClaireTrips I keep wandering just how tall is this girl?
As a Chinese that menu was straight out of google translate 100% LOL
9:53 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
welcome to suzhou!
8:31 that's me for the QQ gummies, absolutely delicious
What was the Hotel called?
enjoy
Haha your personality is so cheerful
