Even when more deadly shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons like the RPG-29 were widely used, it still could not completely replace the RPG-7, shows how the simplicity and convenience of the RPG-7 has built up its icon over the years. Equipping it with better warheads, using smarter and unique tactics, the RPG-7 will still be as deadly as it was when it first appeared 70 years ago.
Even with the "newer" warheads like the tandem and thermobaric munitions, it really is showing it's age. The tandem round also has a stupidly low muzzle velocity and very high muzzle drop so you'll be quite lucky to hit an enemy vehicle even 200 meters away. The only reason the rpg 7 is still widely used is because its cheap and theres a lot of old rounds in circulation that poor nations or rebel groups would gladly accept. For modern armies, specially infantry, that want a fighting chance against peer to peer armor? Not a chance.
@@user-sg6zh6vr7h still good for urban combat with tandem , normal rpg still can do work on if and APC it pretty much a at4 or carl Gustav for squad , for tank there is rpg29 and newer stuff for platoon level
@@jerryle379 i agree, rpg is still usable for light armor and anti infantry. Although the tandem is probably very suicidal to be honest. Better than nothing though

the beauty of RPG 7 is that the size of the warheads is not dependent on the diameter of the launch tube. making it capable of being fitted with different sizes of warheads.

In Afghanistan, the mujahedin used it as an artillery piece. Basically, they used the self-destruct mechanism in it. I've never been in the military. I own no guns. I'm not a fan of war, but there has always been something... sexy?... about the RPG-7 to me. Simple design. Pleasing appearance. Beautiful performance.
Russia knows how to design simple and reliable weapons. The AK, the RPG7, and the PKM are such great weapons. You see them in every conflict across the world. They just work.
I've fired one of these once. They are incredibly rugged and versatile weapons. Not particularly accurate, and they don't have a very great effective range, but they make up for it by having a high volume of fire compared to disposable systems.
Soviet Army : "We need a deadly guns." Soviet engineers : "Okay comrade. We have a task to make a kind of deadly gun for the army and we'll make a gun that could kill the enemy but it's need to be simple, compact, and cheap." And thus, these deadly guns such as PPSh-41, KPV, DShK, AK-47, RPG-7, ZPU, etc are made
So I think you're making a mistake. There's the zpu which mounts 1-4 KPV hmg 14.5x114mm. Then there's the ZU-23 which is based on the ZPU carriage. It's similar but instead it mounts the 2A14 or 2A14M autocannons chambered in 23x152mm. Most of what you said is true. Except the ZPU doesn't penetrate 30mm steel. I'm not even sure the ZU-23 does. And Shilka mounts the ZU-23. Other than that I think you're good.
Become obsolete in anti tank aren’t all the bad thing for RPG-7 . It also free RPG-7 from old duty and make opportunity to other roles like mobility artillery. During Viet Nam war ,all RPG’s ammunition inside North VN’s armory were HEAT rounds. While it performed excellent at anti tank job , it is far less effective than M79 in anti infantry job . Nowadays people bring less HEAT rounds and more anti personnel rounds like thermobaric or fragment ,which is a good sight for future of RPG-7
