The Purgatus Flame Staff shines with the level 30 perk Acendent blaze, as the staff's damage counts for the 10% chance to gain a warp charge on a kill from any soul blaze effect. So you can with other perks you can passively rack up Warpcharges, spend your wrath to set the screen on fire, and get a full stack of charges ready by the time it cools down. My other thoughts on the other staves have been as such: Void is the ultimate universal one, in terms of range, how fast you can spam orbs and the explosive damage is good clearing out enemies close and far range, just need to adjust for the projectile when you aim . Surge Staff is good, but it really does not handle large hordes. It's far more effective for shooters, elites, and specials over the horde enemies as the lighting is not good against pox walkers' infected flesh and it has a limit to how many enemies it chains to. Though I've learned you can shoot enemies through walls with it so you can plant your face in cover and just spam it, which is good for ranged encounters. Trauma Staff just needs some buffs...cause it's too slow to charge a full burst, and the circle is finicky to aim. If you can make it work, more power to you just do NOT like it. The small bolt that the staffs fire beside Purgatus is surprisingly effective against small groups of low-level enemies and quick to spam, like the Voit staff, you need to adjust for projectile speed and watch your peril, I've blown myself up by spamming the smaller orb thinking I can squeeze one more off before I need to meditate.
The Purge Staff is just fun with the full build it makes me want to laugh along with my character watching the whole screen turn blue with fire. My only issue with it is range packs chew me up on the higher difficulty because its lack of range where the Surge would easily deal with them. I'm probably going to shelve playing with it until I've got a force sword with the Deflector talent to round out the build. Surge staff is my universal staff, allows crowd control spamming it at the front of hordes to lock up the front like while being able to stop bursters and muties, then a full secondary shot allows me to kill large chunks of ranged packs from a decent distance. The issue like you said becomes hordes so either need a teammate with AoE or grab a melee weapon, found myself a Sword with Savage Sweep blessing allows me to clear entire lines of hordes each heavy swing.
Surge staff shines as a CC element. The ease at which you can keep big enemies staggered is just great. More of a support pick IMO while the others are much better at horde clear.
@@thomasstewart1380 Totally agree my only issue is there is so much horde clear potential in other classes when no one else can CC like the surge staff. So its my default for random groups but if I'm with a group and need to fill a role then I'll switch to something else.
very good thing about flamer staff is that you equip it instantly and can fire it right away which is going to stagger any man-sized enemy so you can rush them down unlike the flamethrower which takes a minor eternity to equip
It's worth noting that the Trauma staff is bugged at the moment and most blessings don't actually work on it. If it turns out to be anything like siennas conflag staff it will probably shake out as being the meta weapon for Psyker. With Sienna it's used obviously wipe entire hordes but more importantly it can stack incredible amounts of stagger and damage over time on bosses.
with the damage , head shot potential, explosions, ability to damage everything up to even carapace decently, literally near limitless range, and ability to penetrate almost anything me and my buddies have taken to calling the Voidstrike staff the Railgun Stick Trauma staff has a good niche at camping enemy spawns or centering the build up on your insane zealot who threw themself into the whole mob of enemies to blast forces away into nothingness
For high level and high intensity content I've found the Surge staff to be damn near essential. At that high level the Brain Burst ability kinda becomes lackluster and the crowd control ability of the Surge is top tier.
For me the crowd-control is a bit weak since it doesn't damage as much to unarmored, but it does stagger enough to get out of a jam That stagger on all specials though... Now that is tasty Best support weapon in the game second to slab shield
@@stoutvt I tried to use the slab shield but didn't care for it as you have to put yourself into melee range for it to work and the slow wind up leaves you vulnerable to attack and to stagger from elites. On the other hand Surge allows you to stagger everything from a safe distance. When I run Ogryn I much prefer to go with a knife for a "good offense is the best defense" strategy paired with the Lorenz grenade launcher for longer range encounters, good impact damage vs carapace, and knocking down hordes in a pinch.
@@stoutvt utility on specials is good, but I do get bogged down a lot in low mob hordes due to its limitation of only impacting at max 6 enemies… I think it’s good but that aspect is frustrating when playing with it
@@talkingmudcrab718 this is the correct approach. If an enemy is dead it cannot hit you. Sure a staggered enemy also cannot hit you, but stagger doesn't remove the problem, only delays it.
The one thing I really like about the Trauma staff, aside from knocking groups of elites on their asses and all the flying limbs, is that it can one shot poxbursters even on difficulties where brain burst can't
High health venting shriek purgatus soul blaze psyker with force lighting is the only psyker build i can use without dying 10 times over. With deimos force sword.
Main Psyker here, any staff is fine if you play lower difficulty than Heresy, pick any staff that match your play style. On the other hand when playing on Heresy and Damnation difficulty, Surge or Flame staff is a must have. Since Brain Burst doesn't do much in Damnation and Heresy, having surge staff is more reliable and faster way to deal with elite, and it can shock multiple enemy. Flame staff is also reliable but require skill play to use Brain Burst efficiently. TL;DR Surge staff if you focus on elite and hate using Brian Burst. Flame staff if you love clearing horde and can use Brain Burst like a pro.
Once u realize the nuances of the trauma staff it can be ultra useful in t5. Because of how little time it takes to start charging again after use and the dirrection of the cc, you can use it very effectively in close quarters. Placing the epicenter on allies when separated from them gives them a grenade like cc to keep them from getting overwhelmed. A good team doesn't stray far from each other but it is helpful is say in the chaos a buddy gets thrown by a charger or a surprise pox burster separates them. And yes, it is manageable when u urself are being crowded as well. That direction cc is so good that u can switch between u and a teammate. Plus being able to one shot the flak armored enemies t5 in any kind of aoe is useful because it allows u to prevent any traffic jams in horde clearing. One last detail is that the fact it can be re used quickly allows for flicking from far away aim to close when u hear the you are about to be hit sound play instantly transitioning into 1 close quarters combat and 2 keeping ALL nearby enemies thrown back. CC wave staves like the purge staff only give a cone of cc that is very short and it has self cc. IT nerfs ur sensitivity!!!!! A bonus fact is that as a close quarters weapon it is SUPER stamina efficient which is incredibly useful. Trauma force staff + Combat Axe 5 with brutal momentum is a hyper stamina efficient build that can deal with just about anything. I recommend the feats (1 2 3 2 3 1 going 1 at bottom and 3 at top) for level 20 feat it is just preference between 1 or 2.
One thing to mention about the bolt primary. Someone brought this to my attention, and while I haven't 100% confirmed it for myself, I have felt the bolt primary to be a lot more accurate than the crosshair seems to imply. Apparently, that's because bolt shots are perfectly accurate, but have a slight delay between when you click and when you fire which can throw off your aim.
I think the energy bolt primary also has a decently forgiving hitbox, but this causes the major issue which is that you either manage to land a headshot with the bolt (kinda hard), or it usually gets stuck on an arm or leg and does only half damage (as hits to extremities do reduced damage for ranged attacks)
I fucking love Darktide ost It soung like a mix of Devilman crybaby and Cyberpunk with a weird combination of both demonic and heavenly ambiant Jesper Kid the legend
just putting my 10 cents in for the mark IV Force staff - if you dome a carapace armored enemy in the head with a fully charged attack, it knocks them down.
man your guides really help me out. I didn't really like the flamer and the flamethrower staff, I thought both were kinda underwealming, but I see they have great potential for damage. I'll try them out again today
Something I noticed with Warp Bolts (staff primary fire): hitting armor a couple times in the same spot with them will burn the armor away over that spot, revealing a weakpoint. It's not the most useful tidbit, but hey. Also it doesn't work on ogryn enemies.
I noticed the same visual effect of armor breaking down while using a bunch of different weapons. I tested the effect in the Meat Grinder and the armor breaking did not effect damage or gameplay in any way. Bummer, atleast it adds a ton of "weight" to how the combat feels.
Very nice! I cant play the game, but its cool to know what to choose in the future! Can you tell me where did you take the guardsman pic you are using? Did you draw it yourself or some one did it for you?
I would greatly appreciate some sort of lock-on crosshair while you're charging the staff - so you can get an idea of what targets you'll be hitting when you fire.
I don't think Mk 4 is exactly the same as the others. As far as I am aware, it is unique among the powerball shooter staffs to have perfect hipfire accuracy. Other than that, it's the same ye
