  • A while back I took a look at an Android Auto / Carplay emulator for motorcycles, and it had a few problems. Today, we are going to look at another device, the Carpuride W502 Apple Carplay and Android Auto emulator for motorcycles. And, its better!

    Nice to see more options coming out. I’ve enjoyed the Ottocast and link it to my Bluetooth ear plugs for music. For dual sport riding, Gaia GPS works great on android auto and I plot routes before heading out as well. Really helps when coming to a logging road intersection with sometimes 3 choices! My main motivation is to keep my expensive phone safely in the pocket as you mention. Only had one season with it, but covered quite a few miles and working great.

    Good test, I use my Garmin XT most of the time and occasionally my IPhone. So for those who don't want to invest too much money in a gps, this could be an interesting alternative. (Quebec, 🇨🇦)

    I have both the W502 and the new 7" W702 unit. The W702 is absolutely gorgeous, huge screen and extremely bright. As a bonus, it has 2 ways of connecting to the bike, a wiring harness to the battery and another harness that you can plug straight into a USB port, and it works perfectly. Looking forward to using it next summer!

    Looks like a much better unit. Not sure if I would get one or not but it seems to function a little better. For me I think a dedicated GPS might be better.

    This is a great idea for older motorcycles like my Victory Vision. I hate using my phone on the handlebars. It is much better keeping it in my jacket where it is cooler and protected, especially on real hot or cold rides.

    I actually put my phone in my jacket pocket and listen to directions on the gps. I have a cheep mic. and speakers in my helmet that works very well for directions and music. The mic and speakers on cost about 40 dollars off of ebay.

    I have the 7” W702 unit. To help prevent theft while taking short rest stops, I bought a locking knob from Ram Mount to replace the plastic wing nut which clamps on the ball mount on the back of the unit. I bought the version which has a metal key for about $30.00. They make another version which uses a plastic star type pin-lock system which is only around $10.00. I wouldn’t use either for extended times away from the bike, but for short breaks I think it would be fine without having to remove the unit from the ball mount.

    Hey Craig! Thanks for the video. Looks like the leading motorcycle specific nav apps that support Android don't support Android Auto, but they all seem to do Apple CarPlay. They usually say the development time needed to support AA is high vs the amount of interest in the feature. Guess the niche is too small to drive the effort.** Update as of Mid March 2024 My Route App Navigator works with Android Auto**

    Thanks for this info. I think I prefer a Garmin XT. Then I connect my SENA to it and my phone for music. But do you have a video on mounting your GPS on your Tiger? Where and how you mounted it. What products you used for mounting, etc? That would be very helpful to me and my new Tiger GT Explorer.

    • @LivingOffTheSlab
      @LivingOffTheSlab  3 месяца назад +1

      I found a bracket that clamps to the windscreen adjustment bar on eBay. However I cannot find it anymore. I see that they now make a round bar that replaces the OEM adjuster. You could then mount to that.

    • @LivingOffTheSlab

      No, there is no radio receiver. Music would be handled by your phone or via an SD card. I did not try to connect either unit to my bike, but I have a feeling that it would not work well. It is designed so that you would need a headset of some kind.

    Be careful about this product. I purchased the W502 for my motorcycle, decided it was too small and attempted to return it as per the "unconditional return" policy on their web site. The joke is on me. Here is the response:
    Dear customer,
    If you want to return the product, you will need to send it back, incurring high shipping costs, tariff and the risk of losing the product in transit. We will refund you $50. You can keep the product, You can use it yourself or give it as a gift to a friend, Is that OK for you?
    This is not an UNCONDITIONAL return.
