Kiss The Go-Goat, Dance Macabre, and Square Hammer were the encore songs when I saw them live. I think confetti was shot over the crowd during Dance Macabre and the whole amphitheater was dancing and moving. Very very fun show and I can't wait for them to do another show in my area.
Every album has its own feel to it (which I'm assuming is why they go through different "Papas" through their career. The first song I heard by them was Dance Macabre when it appeared in a randomized spotify playlist and I loved it. Though didn't get into Ghost until a few years later when I met someone who is OBSESSED with them. Then I listened to the whole discography, and became a fan myself. I love how you get so into the music that you start dancing. Also appreciate that you wait to give your thoughts instead of pausing every few seconds (aside from the obligatory copyright pause).
Nice video, as always! One of the ideas behind Square Hammer was that Tobias wanted an "opener", or a "Stadium opener". Seeing Ghost playing at an stadium opening with this song was absolutely awesome. So much power, and the audience went from 0 to 100 in one second! You should also check out Kiss the go-goat. Funny video :)
Add "Hunter's Moon" pleeeeeeeaaze I've been to too many metal shows to list, but the production and quality of the Ghost show I went to blew me the hell away and made me an instant fan. I recently got an apartment and deliberately chose the bottom floor so my son and I can do the stomps Ghost does to Hunter's Moon while we jam on our guitars to it. This was more important than the frustration of hearing the noisy folks upstairs... You gotta cover a good live version, tho. Also yes, "Rats" is absolutely fantastic, and at the concert the light show went all amber each time they said "rrrratss" and my recent exe's name is Amber, so I get a chuckle now every time I hear it. 😂 .
In the litteral text of the song, it is about asking someone to become an open and dedicated satanist. In the broader sense I see it as a call to commitment: the song is saying that if you really stand for something you should be able to support it openly and directly. It's asking people to stop being hangers-on (Hiding from the light, Sacrificing nothing) and moochers (Still you call on me for entrance to the shrine, You call on me for powers clandestine) and to really commit to the cause that's important to them and to give of themselves (That you're ready to stand right here, right now).
Not disagreeing with the literal text as it certainly fits the occult/Satanist theme but I do want to point out that in a religious context "swear before the Devil" has about the same meaning as "swear before God" as breaking either vow results in eternal damnation.
When Papa goes out on stage and people see him, they know *HES THAT GUY* and pay attention to him so much. The way he captures any audience so easily is almost terrifying!! When I first heard of them too, given their aesthetic, I expected heavy stuff! Seeing you groove to this song was super cute as always 😭Another song I suggest is "Rats" for good reasons!! 🐀
The intro to this song is my ringtone :-) And the chorus is such a MASSIVE hook - my fave Ghost song. "Ritual" and "Year Zero" will give you a good sense of earlier Ghost. But if you want a great deeper cut, I'd say go for "Respite on the Spitalfields."
On the square" is a phrase commonly used by Masons to indicate honesty, fairness, and uprightness. When a Mason says "on the square," it means that they are acting in accordance with the moral and ethical principles of the fraternity, and can be trusted to be truthful and dependable.
Exactly. It is used in all kinds of common English dialects. To "square up" means to divide everything evenly in a deal. It also means to fist fight in a proper way, is not a street fight, but fisticuffs. A square is a tool also used by masons, architects, engineers, graphic artist etc, to make sure everything is... well, square. Hard to believe this needs to be explained... it's as common as using words like "blind" to not literally mean blind.
You are correct in fact Tobias Forge is a Mason he claims not active he belongs to a lodge in Sweden in fact there is some controversy over a court case there Research if you wish, I belong to the fraternity myself and although there are Masonic references in the video and the song there is allot that doesn't fit, MASONS DON'T PRACTICE SATANISM. Square hammer is not referenced in Masonry. On the Square and on the level "may we meet on the level and part on the square."
I'm 51, lifelong metalhead, no idea how many shows I've been to. Saw Amon Amarth open for Ghost this year-two of my absolute favorites-it was one of the best nights of my life. The energy at a Ghost show is just different. I don't know how else to say it.
The lyrics are about Free Masons rituals the square and the level are carpenter tools. A square hammer is used in the ritual of rebirth. A person climbs into a coffin, it's nailed down with a square hammer. Then the lid is opened and there's rebirth when the person steps out.
Love it! I've got tickets to see them in two weeks, it'll be my first time, can't wait! I recommend giving their song "Faith" a listen to when you get a chance.
I am, in fact, on the square and level. Ghost is gospel for those inclined. This may be a nod to the Freemasons. The square and level are building tools, and a metaphor/idiom for being honest. The mention of the shrine could be the Shriners, and Baphomet has a place in their lore.
That's it exactly. In Freemasonry you have to believe in a "Higher Power" and the Swedish Rite (which, I believe, Tobias Forge is part of) it does not specifically exclude the devil. So this song is about declaring your intent, that you are swearing by The Highest Power you observe...
I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that the chorus is a wink and a nod to Masonic Lodges at which you would apparently have these sentences said to you ("are you on the square, are you on the level"). The devil sentence is added for spice and plays with the Satanic theme of the band, and I think it's a brilliant choice for lyrics!
This song was and is #1 on my ski playlist. Two years ago I reached my all time highest speed on skis while listening to this song, I'm pretty sure this song definitely helped me keep it tight and milk another 5-6 mph to set a new personal record.
Love it when you are dancing to the songs, I saw Ghost Live when they opened for Iron Maiden and I LOVE this song LIVE, if you haven't listened to them Live, you need to, and also need to listen to some Type O Negative, some Black #1 or Love you to Death...
Ghost has the best Guitar solo's, so beautiful and catchy and each one is a banger, ghost imo has some of the best musicianship skills, the whole band always puts everything into their performances and their instrument playing and it makes the whole band feel like a harmonious whole.
Tobias Forge only makes them as hard so he could play them himself, abiosly he cant hes the singer. From the start he wanted another songer for the band but he didnt want to join.
Just saw them for the first time last weekend and it’s an experience. The music on the albums are great but it’s just a whole new experience to see them live. Loved it. Rats or call me little sunshine should be next for a ghost rabbit hole lol
Ghost are always a very unique type of music. With this song in particular being a curious fusion of pop music, goth rock, and 80's AOR. Saw them live just recently and it was amazing! Always recommended without reservation.
I love how you seems to be enjoying Ghost more and more with every new reaction. A song that you definitely should check the live version is Mummy Dust, the song is already really good but the live performance is a whole different experience
I love that you noticed he checked his hair after the bats flew by. This was the second song I heard after hearing "Rats" on the radio earlier that day. Needless to say I spent the rest of the day into evening traveling down the Ghost hole, and "It's a long waaaaaay down". That's a line from the third song I listened to: "From the Pinnacle to the Pit" If you like bass drivin rock songs, that one is awesome. If Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and yes the master of macabre stories, Edgar Allen Poe(you mentioned) were still alive I'm sure they'd have Ghost on their song list. From the Pinnacle To The Pit, official vid. ruclips.net/video/6A-IoOEPbUs/видео.html&ab_channel=GhostBCVEVO Again, Tobias loves his classic early 1910's to the 1920's dystopian futuristic films. Hence one of his newest "The Twenties". A song that looks at the the decade of unrest, corruption, and the future rise of Hitler who tried to take over Germany and was imprisoned. That's how he met his future right hand men. The Prohibition in America(law against any and all alcohol) started 1920 for 13 crime and death filled years. Lead mostly by Al Capone. It also can be compared to what's going on now around the world during these 2020's. Genius. Anyways, lol, I'm rambling on here. Great reaction 🤘👍🤘
Ghost was explained to me as Scooby Doo Metal. On the Square means dealing fairly with everyone, on the Level is living as one should. Pullers of the Freemasons
So many great songs to recommend! I'd try Life Eternal (Palacio de Los Deportes concert) and Phantom of the Opera, for two totally different vibes. And also Jigolo Har Megiddo (Harddrive Online) for a stripped down version
She is cute dancing. This track reminds me of "Mirrors" by Blue Oyster Cult - a great unheralded track by them. Should have been a big hit. Long live Ghost.
Hello Aileen, love your reactions. Ghost is that band that is so weird but interesting at the same time, capable of tunes that are heavy and satanic, and others that sound like an amazing mix between Abba, Celtic Frost and Alice Cooper. Greetings from Venezuela darling, you are incredible ❤
Follow this one up with the Official Music Videos for any of these: --"Rats" --"He Is" --"Call me Little Sunshine" --"Jesus He Knows Me" (Ghost covering a Genesis song from 1991) --"Dance Macabre" Enjoy! 🤘😈
One of my favorite live performances of "Square Hammer" is the San Bernardino video from 7/1/17. Ben Christo was the lead guitarist on this tour (had only a brief stint with the band) and is so awesome with regard to his energy, showmanship and interactions with the crowd. The energy of the band overall is outstanding in this live version.
never heard this band before very old school sound, things I think years ago would be massive, that's my idea of it. Plus I think this would get you jig on the dance floor. Thank Aileen you been enjoyful too watch, very sweet. I think you got a sound set up.
I noticed you haven't checked out Mars Volta. I don't like comparing different bands but if I had to, I'd say they are a mix of Floyd, Zeppelin and Rush and yet their own thing. I'd recommend The Widow, Lvia Lviaquez or Roulette Dares as your first listen Anyway, just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and now I'm subscribed. Love your insight and energy
Dance Macabre, Life Eternal, Year Zero, Monstrous Clock, Little Sunshine, Cirice, Jigolo Har Megiddo are great songs from Ghost you need to listen too!! 🤘💯🔥
100% agree on the poetic aspect. Tobias' lyric writing has so many levels and references. On the video - I don't know if anyone else remarked on this - but go to 6:12 of your own video, and you'll see a red cardinal. That is a secret sign that Papa III (aka 'Terzo', who did Square Hammer) would be replaced soon by Cardinal Copia...
Need to add "Rats" and "Dance Macabre" to the list.
Add “Spillways” to that
Rats is a banger
Dance Macabre is one of the best videos ever!
And Faith
Rats is so so good. Also Year Zero.
I love seeing Aileen dancing to the songs she listens to, it really makes my day to see her so happy
In my opinion one of the most underrated bands out there. Underrated from a musical standpoint and a performance one.
It's extremely difficult to pick my favourite Ghost song, but right now I have 'Call Me Little Sunshine' on repeat.
Great choice gives me mad dream theater vibes that one
"Miasma" from their Prequelle album has major "rock opera" vibes and has a saxophone solo at the end.
My friends listen to "Darkness of heart of my love". It's epic!
I don’t why but I love ‘stay’ so much
@@Joester1408 It’s great! They did such a nice job.
Seeing as you're learning bass, check out "From the Pinnacle to the Pit'. Great bass riff driving the song.
Love seeing Aileen dancing! ❤ Ghost is awesome has a dance vibe to it
Ghost never fails to lift my spirits and its absolutely heartwarming to see a fan in the making.
Looking forward to your reaction of dance Macabre
This song is incredible live. They used it on the encore when I saw them and the crowd was jumping
When I saw them with Iron maiden this was the song they started with.

I Highly, Highly suggest Ghost - Ritual (Live at Music Feeds Studio)...This version is in my opinion by far the best!
In the litteral text of the song, it is about asking someone to become an open and dedicated satanist. Ghuleh/Zombie Queen is my favorite song of theirs. Recommend a live version definitely.
"He is" !!!! is what you need to react... you gonna love it.

YOU NEED TO SEE THEM LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also gotta check out the Feuerschwanz cover of this song
Ghost He is(official video of course). So good.
Always nice to see people dive into Ghost
That is a fine thing

This is the last music they plays at Ghost concert. Just saw they live at São Paulo, and was absolutely perfect! I suggest you to react Spillways!
That eyebrow twitch you do just hurts my heart. You are so beautiful, both looks and your personality.
The only Ghost song I frequently listen to. Definitely the best
5:50 lol seeing you cycle through 4 emotions...
1. *Satisfied nod of approval*
2. "Interesting..."
3. "Oh, wow"
4. "HEY, I LOVE THIS!!!"
Best Metal Performance 2016 / Grammy Award Winner / Ghost - Cirice

This fucking video is so underrated. If this had been filmed in the 80s, it'd be considered one of the greatest videos of all time.
Totally new to this channel, abselutely love it!
Welcome aboard!
FINALLY! ! !
Next must be "Dance Macabre"! Definetely! You're gonna love it!!!
(Btw, I totally dedicate it to you...! 💘💝)

Great reaction, but that shirt is sick! 🤙🤘
TF's voice has gotten a lot stronger since the Meliora era. I think he took lessons during the pandemic

Ghost: Infestissumam/ Per Aspera live Argentina 2014. Their sound absolutely explodes when the show starts.
Ghost - Faith, there is a official video that is from a live performance
Ghost has the best Guitar solo's, so beautiful and catchy and each one is a banger, ghost imo has some of the best musicianship skills, the whole band always puts everything into their performances and their instrument playing and it makes the whole band feel like a harmonious whole.

One of the best live bands around today!
Hi! This is a awesome song and I feel a lot happy watching this
Just saw them for the first time last weekend and it’s an experience. The music on the albums are great but it’s just a whole new experience to see them live. Loved it. Rats or call me little sunshine should be next for a ghost rabbit hole lol
There's a great version of "Life Eternal" live from France. A rare ballad that really showcases another side of this dynamic band.
Just when I thought I couldn't love this tune any more Aileen dances to it. ❤
Ghost are always a very unique type of music. With this song in particular being a curious fusion of pop music, goth rock, and 80's AOR. Saw them live just recently and it was amazing! Always recommended without reservation.
Welcome to ghost fandom!!!!! You’re welcome here. All welcome here.
Are you ready to stand RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW!!!

If you want to check out their older style I recommend you "Ritual" or "Monstrance Clock". And for a good laugh try out "He Is" 😄🤘🏻🤘🏻
If you like a good live song from GHOST you should try...... Ghost - "Faith" - from A Pale Tour Named Death
Dance Macabre is a must! 🖤🖤
Keep up the great reactions
So many great songs to recommend! I'd try Life Eternal (Palacio de Los Deportes concert) and Phantom of the Opera, for two totally different vibes. And also Jigolo Har Megiddo (Harddrive Online) for a stripped down version

A model named @Razor Candi turned me on to this band a while ago. And im so thankful for it.
Love seeing the Ghost reaction. I saw them Aug 11 with Amon Amarth in STL and I'll be going to see Lorna Shore, Mastodon, and Gojira Wednesday night.
Good song and you look amazing! Love the outfit
I always enjoy watching you dance, you look happy when you do 😊 have a great day
if you havent listened to it already ghost - dance macabre is a great song as well

Seeing you dance to this awesome song is so charming ❤
I just saw Ghost live last Sunday. Amazing show! I would recommend Con Clavi Con Dio or Year Zero.
Ghost train? "Call Me Little Sunshine" - addictive riff & melody!... and there's a kind of a train in the video! (Ok - Sheldon, go play now!) LOL!
never heard this band before very old school sound, things I think years ago would be massive, that's my idea of it. Plus I think this would get you jig on the dance floor. Thank Aileen you been enjoyful too watch, very sweet. I think you got a sound set up.

Anyway, just found your channel a couple of weeks ago and now I'm subscribed. Love your insight and energy
Well it's about time you reacted to more Ghost.🙂😉 check out the songs Bible, and He Is. Oh, and Dance Macabre.
'Spillways' and 'Call Me Little Sunshine' are great songs to react to!
I loved how your reaction to this. New follower!
another Ghost song that you will like is "He Is" live from lollipoluza, Argentina 2016. That is a very good version.

Id love to see your reaction to Miasma from ghost!
Just saw them last night in Bristow Va with Amon Amarth!!!!! They were amazing
Just over a month until I see them with my best mate, so excited
I highly recommend Ghost's videos for Danse Macabre, He Is, and one of their very recent covers Jesus He Knows Me.
Year Zero and HE IS, are both a must when it comes to this band, it only adds to the image and compliment the band further!
