I used to collect music (CD's), and these have (maybe had) value and are tangible property that can be accumulated and even be bequeathed in your will or sold at some point when you need cash (read liquidity). How do we do all of this with digital music, you spend money to either buy or listen and you spend each time you stream the same product. Musicians (and creatives in general) should guard their art jealously and do something about this.
If I was an artist I would have all my music on my website and charge my fans/subscribers a monthly fee. If you only have 10K fans you would make more money than most of the artist on music labels...
This whole concept of not owning anything (and being happy) is a scam. it's not just music, its software, etc. Access to a lot of things are now behind annoying ads or a neverending subscription. Sad to know that both the creators and consumers are getting screwed by the powers that be, its disgusting!

There are ideas available if someone is willing to create an alternative.

But today, individuals can also be marketing agencies themselves. Learn about copyright and then take time to also learn about how much each platform pays, and only market the one that pays better than the rest whilst you're still building your own website to sell your merch and songs...CW~
Do you know wats the worst theory, if 10 000 People from South Africa pay a subscription of R65 on Spotify Per Month in total Spotify gains = R650 000 in just a month But if me as a musician i gain 10 000 Streams from 10 000 people in SA i will only get paid around $18/ R320 😭😭how is that even possible Worse part Territory makes things even more complicated

I'm an independent music producer and label owner based in Jozi and although I agree with many of the points you've made I have to raise my hand here and say that there is a lot of success to be had in the streaming market, at least on the music side. I don't have an audience here on RUclips but on Apple Music I'm getting many millions of streams monthly for my music from which I make a good living. I have realised that choosing the right distribution network is key in finding success for your specific niche. I subscribed to the idea that there wasn't much money in streaming until I took the plunge and expored the market fully, took emotions out of it, armed myself with the necessary knowledge and made the right deals with the right people.

We involved too for positioning artists. we are there to warm up the algorithms and they have to boost their content or ask tech guys to help them gain numbers. I am still doing this for major brands. any number can be typed in there.
We are living in the last days Dj Sbu. And streaming made a lot of artists lazy. Why ? You just make a song. You post it. No need to sell CD''s. That's why artists are singing bullshit.

Yet just to think about the up-front budget to do most of the thing's independently takes alot of time trying to hustle for funds. Yet there's still hope if you are starting like myself I think putting music out on the DSP's while you try building your own voice is okay. Once you have a brand in place you can now take the money direct from the consumers. Also collaborations is something I'm looking at and that also helps to reach more consumers of the music. As of now I guess we have to play the game smart.

Nowadays, a hit is the only way to make a living without a 9-5 as a musician. Other than luck and TikTok, it's pretty much the only avenue that could make you in demand for gigs.

@djsbulive Being an aspiring and upcoming artist and producer, I have realized something about Independent and unsigned upcoming talents, there are many of them, so many they can even create a parliament, there are so many artists they can even maybe fill up a stadium or so, my point is, Its tricky getting support as an unknown artist, people do not care, if your name does not ring a bell or appear on suggested posts to some people you aint even worth they time, the world takes you for granted until you make it up, why are artists not having their own societies, why are artists the biggest haters of other artists? an artist you may know and an artist I may know may both have access and information on the market and have means and the platform to help you promote yourself and grow as an artist, Are artists and labels scared of other artists getting bread? Or creative artists are a threat to big names?

Depends on which distributor you're with. I know Distrokid is 22,99 USD billed annually, the others are a bit more or around the same price.
Amuse is free and you can choose a boost or pro plan when you have a budget.
