A police chief once described a situation where a scammer has been caught, and one of the people who got scammed only acknowledged he got scammed after the scammer insisted that he took money from him.
It's much easier to fool someone then to show them they've been fooled. This is why SOME (I said some) conspiracy theories, even if 100% people won't believe it.

this happened to my mum a few years ago. she wanted to donate money to Australia because of the wildfire that was happening over there at the time. so she donated $500 to this organisation that claims that they're helping relocate and treating animals that homes got destroyed in the fire. when I heard her saying that she had donated such a large sum of money (500 is a lottttt of money to us because we aren't exactly well off), I immediately did some research on the website but by the time I did so, the website got taken down because the whole thing was a scam. I was so fuckin pissed at how they used such a tragic event to gain profit off of it by scamming people who genuinely wanted to help. I felt so bad for my mum and didn't have the heart to tell her that the website was a scam

You cant get your tailbone x-rayed unless its very obviously broken to the point your legs get numbing and falling out, cause its does more damage to x-ray them then it helps to find out the damage. I fell from a mountainbike on my tailbone while hanging on to a friends electric bike, i was drunk, and i passed out a couple times (due to the fall not alcohol) and had to lay on my stomach and couldnt sit for a month and couldnt sit comfortably for a couple years. Yeah, for real. I'd seen a shorter version of the clip somewhere before (really thought I'd seen a different reaction video to it, but if I did it's lost to me now), and that was bad enough. Didn't realise this was about that same documentary, and unexpectedly seeing it all uncut like this... It made me feel physically uncomfortable. And I still am, however many minutes it's been since I saw it. Seeing and hearing someone, especially an adult and _especially_ someone elderly, cry and just lie on the ground like that... It's gut-wrenching, and one of the most awful things you can hear. It felt like something we weren't supposed to see, almost like something outta LiveLeak. Not like any of the extreme videos that were on that site, which I thankfully never watched (the few vids I did watch were enough for me), but it gave me that same feeling of uneasiness and wrongness. Like you _know_ you've just seen someone get injured for real. Something about the reality of it all hitting you like... like a Swede at full gallop. It reminded of when I slid while playing volleyball in 2015 and permanently damaged my knee (doesn't help that I slid on some gravel last summer and messed up both my legs even further). I was not slammed into, so I'm sure she was in more pain, but still it made me think back to my own experiences, and how truly awful and surreal everything feels when you're lying there, everything turned upside-down, your whole world in that very moment being this mix of disbelief, pain and uncertainty, not knowing what to do now or how to cope with it. At least I was with my dad, aunt (who works in healthcare) and cousins both times I got injured.

I spent my childhood trying, failing, and feeling upset over trying to be a Jedi or a Bender from the Avatar cartoon. It made me feel bad to try and fail so much over impossible things. This scene is from the documentary Three Miles North of Molkom. It's about the yearly New Age festival called No Mind Festival, located at Ängsbacka in Sweden. The documentary follows a group of people with different backgrounds that got placed together during their "spiritual journey" at the festival. Where they do activites together like hugging trees and they continually sit in a circle where they talk about personal spiritual stuff. The woman gets ostracized by the group after this incident, I got a little mad about how she was treated. But the movie is interesting and definitely worth a watch! One of the people in the group is an australian dude that's there because of a fling, who at first questions wtf he is doing there. It's great having him in the documentary because he's someone the vivewer (that's unfamiliar with New Age stuff) can relate to.

This one cracks me up every time. I used to do martial arts for 7 years back in the days. The amount of people living in the fantasy world, who went through our gym, was ridiculous. They usually didn't last very long, I guess they didn't think that training would mean sweat, bruises and sore muscles. The thing is that while those fantasy people bring in the money, they also take away the credibility of the gym. Teaching fantasy fighting techniques (scamming) would have been easy money, needless to say that the first two years we were almost broke, but through persistence we managed to grab ourselves a decent bunch of active people with their feet rooted on the reality, but damn we were poor on those first years. Basically we didn't have enough practitioners to pay the rent, so some of us poured more than just the membership fee just to keep the training going. Slowly we made ourselves known, we begun to had serious students, more than we could even handle and had to start choosing who gets in. I haven't trained for ages because I burned myself out two times and then decided that era of my life is over. I still sometimes visit my old gym when I'm in town though. These days it's one of the biggest (if not the biggest) and most stable gyms in that half of my country. So I guess the moral of the story is that some people don't like work and become scammers, which is weird because I think lying non-stop in itself is really laborious.

How is that upsetting? The world is a zero sum game. If you lose, someone else gains. And often vice versa. If you get promoted at work, it means someone else is not getting promoted. We all have to step on others if we want to climb. It's the sad truth of our existence. this happened to my mum a few years ago. she wanted to donate money to Australia because of the wildfire that was happening over there at the time. so she donated $500 to this organisation that claims that they're helping relocate and treating animals that homes got destroyed in the fire. when I heard her saying that she had donated such a large sum of money (500 is a lottttt of money to us because we aren't exactly well off), I immediately did some research on the website but by the time I did so, the website got taken down because the whole thing was a scam. I was so fuckin pissed at how they used such a tragic event to gain profit off of it by scamming people who genuinely wanted to help. I felt so bad for my mum and didn't have the heart to tell her that the website was a scam

You cant get your tailbone x-rayed unless its very obviously broken to the point your legs get numbing and falling out, cause its does more damage to x-ray them then it helps to find out the damage.
I fell from a mountainbike on my tailbone while hanging on to a friends electric bike, i was drunk, and i passed out a couple times (due to the fall not alcohol) and had to lay on my stomach and couldnt sit for a month and couldnt sit comfortably for a couple years.
This was a good 4-5 years ago and it still hurts sometimes when sitting in a weird position.
I couldnt get it x-rayed and im just happy my peepee still works and i didnt get blind.

Yeah, for real. I'd seen a shorter version of the clip somewhere before (really thought I'd seen a different reaction video to it, but if I did it's lost to me now), and that was bad enough. Didn't realise this was about that same documentary, and unexpectedly seeing it all uncut like this... It made me feel physically uncomfortable. And I still am, however many minutes it's been since I saw it. Seeing and hearing someone, especially an adult and _especially_ someone elderly, cry and just lie on the ground like that... It's gut-wrenching, and one of the most awful things you can hear. It felt like something we weren't supposed to see, almost like something outta LiveLeak. Not like any of the extreme videos that were on that site, which I thankfully never watched (the few vids I did watch were enough for me), but it gave me that same feeling of uneasiness and wrongness. Like you _know_ you've just seen someone get injured for real. Something about the reality of it all hitting you like... like a Swede at full gallop.
It reminded of when I slid while playing volleyball in 2015 and permanently damaged my knee (doesn't help that I slid on some gravel last summer and messed up both my legs even further). I was not slammed into, so I'm sure she was in more pain, but still it made me think back to my own experiences, and how truly awful and surreal everything feels when you're lying there, everything turned upside-down, your whole world in that very moment being this mix of disbelief, pain and uncertainty, not knowing what to do now or how to cope with it. At least I was with my dad, aunt (who works in healthcare) and cousins both times I got injured.

This scene is from the documentary Three Miles North of Molkom. It's about the yearly New Age festival called No Mind Festival, located at Ängsbacka in Sweden. The documentary follows a group of people with different backgrounds that got placed together during their "spiritual journey" at the festival. Where they do activites together like hugging trees and they continually sit in a circle where they talk about personal spiritual stuff. The woman gets ostracized by the group after this incident, I got a little mad about how she was treated. But the movie is interesting and definitely worth a watch! One of the people in the group is an australian dude that's there because of a fling, who at first questions wtf he is doing there. It's great having him in the documentary because he's someone the vivewer (that's unfamiliar with New Age stuff) can relate to.

I got suckered into going on a Disney Cruise years ago, and there was this big theater show. It was Peter Pan themed, and I swear to God the entire point of the show was them convincing Wendy that she could fly if she **really** believed hard enough. "But I'm a normal girl, I can't fly!". I used to do martial arts for 7 years back in the days. The amount of people living in the fantasy world, who went through our gym, was ridiculous. They usually didn't last very long, I guess they didn't think that training would mean sweat, bruises and sore muscles. The thing is that while those fantasy people bring in the money, they also take away the credibility of the gym. Teaching fantasy fighting techniques (scamming) would have been easy money, needless to say that the first two years we were almost broke, but through persistence we managed to grab ourselves a decent bunch of active people with their feet rooted on the reality, but damn we were poor on those first years. Basically we didn't have enough practitioners to pay the rent, so some of us poured more than just the membership fee just to keep the training going. Slowly we made ourselves known, we begun to had serious students, more than we could even handle and had to start choosing who gets in.
I haven't trained for ages because I burned myself out two times and then decided that era of my life is over. I still sometimes visit my old gym when I'm in town though. These days it's one of the biggest (if not the biggest) and most stable gyms in that half of my country. So I guess the moral of the story is that some people don't like work and become scammers, which is weird because I think lying non-stop in itself is really laborious.
Your story reminds me of a coworker who had jury duty. The guy sitting next to him had some firearms magazine; my coworker was an avid hunter, so he goes to strike up a conversation with the guy. Dude with the magazine says he's prepping for the zombie apocalypse. 🤦🏼♀️

How is that upsetting? The world is a zero sum game. If you lose, someone else gains. And often vice versa. If you get promoted at work, it means someone else is not getting promoted. We all have to step on others if we want to climb. It's the sad truth of our existence. I doubt to them it is as you say, in their minds they are just doing whatever they can to make a paycheck and survive. If someone is dumb enough to fall for one of these scams, they deserve to be scammed. If you have that little respect for your money that you would just throw it away on something you either don't understand or did no research on... then yes... you deserve to be scammed. And someone else deserves to benefit from your stupidity. If you really wanna fix this problem, idiots should not have disposable income. But I think our economy might fall apart if idiots stopped throwing money away on things they didn't need.
Some people have been like that sense humans have existed or at least a very long time.

I would never fall for this though I mean if it was possible to shoot energy blasts why the hell would we have needed to make swords back in the day. If someone is just a dumb normal person it's there own fault, but if they actively watch people looking for people who were say mentally disabled or emotionally messed up and manipulate them that's fucked up.
