- Have a look at the 3rd video in the series of specific strength work for Javelin Throwing. This video focusses on some of the work you can do with a barbell and a hammer.
As a coach of many athletes, you can't fit everything into your training programme, but this might stimulate a few new thoughts as to how you can progress some of the athletes that you are working with. There are thousands of exercises out there....just be clear on your rationale behind why it is in your programme. Without clear rationale, then try and understand the processes, the involved function (biomechanically) and the transfer to performance.

Hitting the "power position" of a javelin throw puts immense strain on the body, all that running speed translated into a bow like shape of the body, leaving the hand and arm behind as the ankle, hip and entire body rotate forwards in a split second with the arm powerfully coming through. It takes a tremendously conditioned physique to propel a javelin.

OgreBattleFight these are generally full body javelin related exercises so they target specific areas to improve the physicality for the javelin throw.
