The bass was not just Tim. You can hear the subtle difference. The Oak Ridge Boys have an awesome bass too.

      Nothing subtle about Richard Sterban...

    • @lowelljohnston7013

Absolutely right, most of those going "ohhhhh Tim," was actually Richard Sterban of the Oak Ridge Boys. At 70 plus still dropping it down. Don't get me wrong, Tim does go fire breathing depths, but Richard can go down too and with more clarity it seems

This collaboration is one of my favorites! Looks like they were having so much fun together too! If you'd like another "Low bass brain tingle", have a listen to Home Free covering Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". And have your repeat finger ready on the trigger - - it's going to get a lot of use! *GRIN*

They did a wonderful job and I think they did that song justice better than anyone else has. Home Free are the greatest Acapella group in my opinion and I love hearing their take on different people's songs. Although in this case I am going to have to say the the winners are the original singers. They did it best

This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oakridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.

Tim is a great bass. Richard Sterban is the bass for the Oak Ridge boys. It’s a good one. If you love bass, try Brothers in Arms, Helplessly Hoping, Hillbilly Bone, Your Man, Sea Shanty Medley. Also try Tim with Peter Hollens and Misty Mountains. I know Geoff does one too, but I love Tim and Peter. They have so many collaborations. BTW, Home Free often sings this song in concert and Tim loves to get the audience involved. Lots of fun.

The Oaks' bass, Richard Sterban, has been with the group since 1972. Before that, he was a member of a group that sang backup for Elvis! If you're really into VoicePlay, it's hard to believe this is your only reaction to Home Free. There's A LOT of great music here!! Please put "Man of Constant Sorrow" ( ruclips.net/video/-ew_bfFvros/видео.html ) high on your what's-next-from-Home-Free list. If you've already heard that one, make it HF's cover of The Doobie Brothers' 1972 hit "Listen to the Music" - ruclips.net/video/O_7IYbuRgWQ/видео.html

I second those recommendations, and also: "Between a Rock and a Heartache" ( ruclips.net/video/MNV8GPZrVho/видео.html [silly shenanigans, with Tim looking out for the boys[) and also: "What's left of my heart" -- an original song that Tim wrote, and sings lead on ( ruclips.net/video/J9jfMYSJF-o/видео.html ).
VoicePlay and Home Free met when they both competed on the TV show "The Sing Off." Home Free won that season, and VoicePlay were in the final top ten. Geoff and Tim have been friends ever since, and Tim joined in on VoicePlay's massive multi-singer collaboration video "Just Sing" during the first spring of COVID quarantines, raising money for a musicians' charity (I recommend checking that out, too: ruclips.net/video/vZ56xcFSkng/видео.html *be sure to turn on the captions, they'll tell you who everyone is* ).

6:34 is what we call a Tim-gasm, hehe. If you liked that, & if you haven’t already, listen to Ring of Fire, Misty Mountains (both get ridiculous at the end) as well as Fishing in the dark/Down in the Boondocks mashup & Sold, which have these subharmonic moments about two thirds through.
Sea Shanty medley is bass city.
    And almost anything live haha.

Tim help Jeff get tot hose lower notes. VoicePlay and Home Free were both on the 4th season of the SingOff. Which Home Free ended up winning. Both groups do have collaborations behind the scenes. If I remember Jeff actually did the arrangement of this song for Home Free and the Oak Ridge Boys. Another good bass song from Home Free is their cover of "Ring of Fire". The official video features Avi from Pentatonix. Just wait till you hear that last note.

Tim's range is G0-A5. There are two reasons I prefer Home Free to VoicePlay. First, I prefer the type of songs Home Free sings. I'm not really into movie music. Second, I feel that Geoff, while a great singer, has a habit of going lower than the song might call for, simply because he can. They are unnecessary bass drops and they don't sound right to me.
