Home Free is gaining not just popularity, but also respect because of the respect they show to those who have paved the way. They were honored to make the re-make of American Pie with Don McClean for the 50th anniversary of the song. They recorded with Kenny Rodgers shortly before he passed, and have done a couple of songs with the country music group of the century, Alabama! These boys are aa class act in every sense of the word. Love your reactions!
Jen,this was a honor for Home Free as it was something they always wanted to work with is to sing with Oak Ridge Boys. Check out "BEAUTIFUL STAR OF BETHLEHEM" With the Oaks and Jeffrey East.( the Oak Ridge Boys: are William Lee Golden (long beard baritone),Richard Sterban (bass),Joe Bonsell (tenor),Duane Allen (lead vocals).

Richard spent many years as a member of the JD Sumner's Stamps Quartet, backing Elvis Presley, before joining the Mighty Oaks. JD himself, was the most powerful low voice on the Gospel circuit and Elvis' singing idol, so it was no mean feat to be selected by Sumner.
The Oak Ridge Boys have literally been singing "Elvira" longer than any member of Home Free has been alive on this Earth, and they sound GREAT every time. Fun Fact: The bass singer for the Boys, Richard Sterben, sang bass for Elvis Presley way back in the day.

This is one of my favourites. I adore the friendly competition between the two high tenors and the two bases. And all the fan-boying on both sides is simply hilarious. Both groups seem to be completely enamored of each other. Like Home Free considers The Oak Ridge Boys their mentors/models, and The Oak Ridge Boys are kind of passing the baton. And the way Home Free can completely fill in for any instrumentals you might have expected is just so wonderful. There's never a feeling that something is missing.
YES!!! As so many other of Home Free's songs, this just makes me so incredibly happy, and it made all of them happy too. This was the first of many big collaborations that Home Free has done with artists that paved the way and inspired them along the way. The Oaks were the ones who introduced Home Free to the Grand Ole Opry and they adore each other. Thanks, Jen, watching you watch and break down Home Free is always a delight and joy. ❣🙏
This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oakridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys
Tim could have hit all the lowest bass parts he did with Richard. But out of respect he let Richard shine for 2 of them & then hit the lowest note only on the 3rd time.
the amount on talent in this clip is insane 2 generations getting together to have fun how can you not love it. (edit: the oak ridge boys tenor voice sounds so young tbh)
In live shows following this video, Tim Foust joked that he usually felt very manly. But after meeting and listening to Richard Sterban, he felt like Austin must feel all the time.
So glad you finally got around to this one, this collaboration is absolutely fantastic. Another great collaboration that I think that you should check out would be Home Free - America Pie ft. Don McLean.

I have been a big fan of the Oak Ridge Boys growing up and this song was always one of my favorites..adding Home Free to their vocals gives it a whole new life..especially with Adam's beatboxing talent! Love these guys!!

VERY happy you liked this, Jen. You got all of the Oaks' names right. The one with the grand beard is William Lee Golden. He is lead in several of the Oaks' hits including "Thank God For Kids". I sent a link to an excellent example of the Oaks in concert back in their heyday. The video and sound quality is surprisingly very good. It has two songs back-to-back and is 7 minutes long. Hi Jen. I just resubscribed for your HF reactions. I really enjoyed your reaction to this collaboration between HF and The Oak Ridge Boys. Reactor I watched last week was less than thrilled by this effort. What a difference it makes when you love music, know music and can evaluate and enjoy a cover on it's own merits. So glad HF can still get you all excited like this.
Such a fantastic reaction! There's a lot of affection and respect between Home Free and the Oaks. And Austin has that shirt framed in his home. And yes, you should definitely check out Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. The Oaks and Jeffrey East joined Home Free as guests on their Christmas special, and on one verse Austin really lets his Gospel roots fly!
Great reaction, Jen. I have never been sure how eight men plus a beatboxer can make so much sound. This and the associated BTS just express a joy, not just in singing but in singing well and singing with others. I have no idea what's going to be in the new season tour programme, but this was always a great hit with audiences and probably won't be abandoned. Austin had the shirt with the ORB autographs framed and it hangs in his house to this day. He does look very young indeed in this one but was in fact about 28 or 29 at the time. There must be something in the water in Georgia to keep someone looking so young. We are anxiously awaiting the the release of his "Two Tenors" project with Rob. They won't even tell us what they're singing, but i'm sure you won't want to miss it! About the Eurobash: still no dates at all but it will probably be in summer '23. Sian Pinnell, who's hosting and organising the Bash in Gloucester, has asked that you send her a Friend request on FB so she can invite you and keep you posted.
One of the greatest compliments a singer can get is to perform a classic song alongside the original artist! So far, HF's teamed up with The Oaks, Kenny Rogers, Alabama, and Don Mclean. There will be more. 🙂
They do a Christmas song with the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffrey East. Can't wait until Christmas because, of course, they have some great ones. Originals and covers.
This is one of my Home Free all time fav for sure, their chemistry is unmatched! Love their rendition of 'Star Of Bethlehem' as well on their X-mas special from last year, you should def check it out! Oh and fun fact, don't know if you watched till the end but this was arranged by Geoff from Voiceplay! 🙌🙌
Jen, you are my favorite reactor to Home Free. With your background in musical theater and vocal training you stay down to earth and are not the least bit snobbish. Some look down on the country genre. Home Free clearly excels in other genres as well. Love your enjoyment of music.
This version of Elvira is a constant in my music listening…..If you loved this collab, also try Home Free & Kenny Rogers singing Children, Go Where I Send Thee
Oh Jen, what a treat to hear this great pairing ! The old kids on the block with the new kids on the block. The mutual love and respect was clearly evident. Another Home Free musical treat. This may be out of left field but I like it when you wear your glasses ! Just saying.
You are not alone in having an acapella playlist! I have one that I listen to all the time. And it's mostly made up of Home Free, Voiceplay and Peter Hollens! 😁
Thank you for a great reaction. What I love about this song is that I saw an old interview over 10 years ago where Tim Foust said this was his dream to collaborate with the ORB. So to watch his face during this knowing his dream came true... AWESOME! I will finally get to see them live in Dec. I hope you get to see them in Europe soon.
So glad you finally got to this song but if you want to continue down the rabbit hole of Home Free singing with the original artist or the writer you've simply got to do American Pie with Don Mclean & also Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. What better compliment could one artist give to another than to trust them with your music?
My wife and i just saw Home Free in Anaheim CA. on the 13th to kick off their Road Sweet Road Tour and they did this song first. We were lucky enough to be front row center stage (about 8-10 feet from the guys) and their sound is nearly as good live as it is on a studio mix (some parts were even better than studio). Im not sure which was my favorite part of this song, either Tim dropping the bass on the "mow mow" which actually shook the floor, or Adams percussion which also shook the floor and our bodies. The entire show was incredible and they actually ran a bit over on time because it was supposed to be a 90 minute show which turned into just over 2 hours. Side note for the Adam lovers out there, he has changed up his "drum solo" to include looping, along with the other stuff in the video on YT.
How fun! I had ORB cassettes as a teen and loved this song. Now that you've heard HF perform Geoff's arrangement, you need to hear Geoff perform it. VoicePlay only did it live (there is rumored to be a Patreon-only studio version) but there are several versions on YT. I think it was their finale song. The interplay between Geoff and Earl is funny and the ending is jaw-dropping awesome.
I love your reactions to Home Free! They make me literally laugh out loud because you sum up what we all feel when we watch/hear them. Pure warmth, joy, passion, giddiness, and more. One of theirs that has a different feel to it than what you’ve reacted to so far is Cover Me Up which features Chance on lead all the way through and you really get to appreciate the richness of his voice, which in my opinion is one of the best baritone voices out there. Just be sure to watch all the way to the end because this one is extra special.
this was great. in my opion the best group& the best reaction lady. i always look forward to your reactions. your love & pasion for music always comes out. thank you!!!!!
Lovely Jen! This song was actually my introduction to Home Free, and seeing them perform a brand-new arrangement with the original artists was very special. Just like watching Pentatonix perform "Jolene" with Dolly Parton, this performance really helped cement the legitimacy of acapella music in the mainstream.
Watching Jen enjoy a song is one of the delights of my life. She lifts my mood for days afterward. Thank you, dear lady, thank you. Addendum, one day & several watches later. I can't be sure (because of my senior citizen memory, and because I don't want to review all of Jen's reactions), but I believe that Jen enjoyed this performance as much as any that I have seen. Damn, Jen's enthusiasm is contagious. And I, for one, am humbly and deeply grateful.
This song was huge back in 81. I remember it well back in the day. I think it's great that HF honored them with making sure they got the lead parts and hung back a bit to highlight their song.
Jen, congratulations! You are officially the "Queen of Acapella Reactions and Analysis"! I really enjoy your exuberance and emotion when bring us your best. I really encourage you to react and analyze Home Free's cover of American Pie FEATURING DON MCLEAN (the original writer and singer) that was dropped on the 50th anniversary of Don's album.
OMG, your reaction (as always) was absolutely entertaining. You get so excited and start hitting the piano and stuttering and singing, it fabulous. And you facial reactions and big beautiful eyes just make me enjoy watching. But most of all, the knowledge you give explaining what they're doing and how they do their magik, gives me the ability to truly understand what I'm hearing, and and takes the enjoyment to a higher level. 💕 from a non musically educated FAN!
I love the Oak Ridge Boys. This is the music I grew up listening to in the 80’s and I love them to this day they can still sing it just as beautifully as they did back then. Thanks for this.
Love how they turned this into a fun duel of the a capella bands! And I recall reading somewhere that it was actually Oakridge Boys who invited Home Free for the collab.
Jen, Tim said that he wanted to be Richard Stuban, and then to get to sing was amazing. The Oak Ridge Boy's really became their mentors after this. They have done quite a lot with them since. They actually did the Christmas Special with them. The tenor of the Oak Ridge Boy's Joe Bonzel give Austin a lot of grief for how high he sings. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.
Delightful analysis. This has been in my personal top 5 since I heard. This song can lift a mood like no other. So much fun to see someone who understands the nuances enjoy this collaboration as much as a casual listener! 😊
Jen great reaction as always! Looked like you were having as much fun as the boys were in the video. I’d love to see you check out some of Home Free’s original songs. You will not be disappointed. Anything off the “Dive Bar Saints” album would be a great place to start.

The Oaks started as a gospel group. I was privileged to see (and hear, of course) them do an all-gospel New Year's Eve concert in the early 1970s.
Hello! Yes, can’t wait for that project 😁 and amazing, I shall check!
One of the greatest compliments a singer can get is to perform a classic song alongside the original artist! So far, HF's teamed up with The Oaks, Kenny Rogers, Alabama, and Don Mclean. There will be more. 🙂
And Lee Greenwood
@@marlenekloth4734 And Charlie Daniels Band(audio only)
They do a Christmas song with the Oak Ridge Boys and Jeffrey East. Can't wait until Christmas because, of course, they have some great ones. Originals and covers.
Nice!!
Thank you so much!
Oh that’s lovely!!
Home Free =Brother Home Free=Brother pls pls pls
Jen, have you listened to " Children Go Where I Send Thee" with Kenny Roger's? This was epic!! Seen it about 1000 times, but never get tired of it!!!❤
So glad you finally got to this song but if you want to continue down the rabbit hole of Home Free singing with the original artist or the writer you've simply got to do American Pie with Don Mclean & also Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. What better compliment could one artist give to another than to trust them with your music?
Why not? It makes me happy...
Just love that ❤
😁
Did you notice the autographs on Austin's t-shirt & Rob's beard competition(2:25)? The playfulness is definitely a star in this video.
This is one of my favorites 😍 and my favorite of your reactions ❤️
😁😁
I LOVE when you bounce on the piano and find the note ... and the look you give .... AWESOME!! (@ 15.24 the oooOOO look - PRICELESS)
Ah thank you!
Lovely Jen! This song was actually my introduction to Home Free, and seeing them perform a brand-new arrangement with the original artists was very special. Just like watching Pentatonix perform "Jolene" with Dolly Parton, this performance really helped cement the legitimacy of acapella music in the mainstream.
Definitely something special! Thank you😊
Terrific reaction and analysis. Another great one is Home Free's cover of "May Day". AMAZING- lots to unpack, and some excellent surprises as well.
I watched this right after it dropped, and thought more than a couple of times, 'Jen's gonna love this, and you didn't disappoint.
Not a bad title I must say😁 aha thank you!
I love watching you geek out! So cute! 😂
Thank you so much 😁
Thanks for all of my favorite Home Free..God Bless..Love Chris
I love the Oak Ridge Boys. This is the music I grew up listening to in the 80’s and I love them to this day they can still sing it just as beautifully as they did back then. Thanks for this.
Love how they turned this into a fun duel of the a capella bands! And I recall reading somewhere that it was actually Oakridge Boys who invited Home Free for the collab.
Terrific review as you took us through all the great vocals and surprises! Thankn you for sharing your expertise!
Thank you 😁
I love your reactions to the extreme quality that is Home Free. Love it! You are definitely a Home Fry!
Ahah yay! Thank you 😊
I love this one but Beautiful Star of Bethlehem brings me to tears. You’ll want to add that one to your playlist too!
That facial expression at 15:42 when Tim dropped into the basement. 🤣🤣🤣
Jen, love Home Free and Oak Ridge Boys together..So nice to see them enjoy each other and their talents..One of my favorites!! Thanks
Okay, I didn't realize this was posted recently. I'm excited since there aren't to many bigger names on RUclips doing home free anymore.
Delightful analysis. This has been in my personal top 5 since I heard. This song can lift a mood like no other. So much fun to see someone who understands the nuances enjoy this collaboration as much as a casual listener! 😊
dear Jen, i keep coming back here, because i love your passion and joy in music - love from germany 😃
😁😁
Jen great reaction as always! Looked like you were having as much fun as the boys were in the video. I’d love to see you check out some of Home Free’s original songs. You will not be disappointed. Anything off the “Dive Bar Saints” album would be a great place to start.
Richard Sterban is an incredible bass singer. He even sang back-up for Elvis back in the day, before joining the Oaks.
Great song. Great version. Another great reaction.
Thanks!
New subscriber here. I noticed that you have been smitten by the Home Free bug. A very good thing. Home Free has also been following you....... big shout out from Tim Foust and Rob Lundquist, so you know that you are doing great reactions.
Love your passion for Home Free! I love them, Home Free has saved me from depression! Here is a few songs to check out. (Brothers in Arms, Colder Weather, Bless the broken road, End of the Road by Boys to Men, how great thou art. And Tim and Peter Hollens did Bridge Over Trouble Waters) All great songs. God bless.
Love this song, Oakridge Boys and Home Free. All of these guys are amazing.
When they do this in concert brings the house down! Everyone is singing clapping, stomping it gets insane!
Its fun to watch folks who are music professionals get very giddy and excited by the work they are analyzing. In a perfect world, the guys will make it to Great Britain and do a recording session with you as the featured guest. THAT would make this fan of both of you very, very happy. Have a great week Jen!!
Ah thank you ahah!
This may be, no I think this is, your greatest reaction. Hey, we love them all . That’s why we support you on Patreon. But this one was special and I’ll be adding it to my RUclips playlist consisting of your greatest hits that I watch over and over.
Aw thank you!!
well, I'm supposed to be working right now, but I saw you posted this video. So this was a priority. Your reactions are always make me smile, and your analyses are always among the best I can find anywhere on this medium. You break things down in such a clear and fun way
Thanks so much!
I love your content literally my favorite reactor!!!!
Ah thank you 😁
