Home Free is amazing!! Little bit of news... Austin got his start on cruise ships as a member of the onboard cast for shows. Royal Caribbean are known for their wandering minstrels! That's apparently where Home Free found him. They we're wandering around singing. It was so my 1st introduction to Acapella.I am in awe!
And the Bass singer of the Oak Ridge Boys, is Richard Sterban, When He started out in Music He was in a group called The Jordanaires; Who ALMOST exclusively sang backup vocals for Superstar performer, Elvis Presley!!!
I am so glad you reacted to this collaboration between Home Free & The Oakridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys
The Oak Ridge Boys took this song to #1 on both the country and pop charts in 1981. Home Free did a collaboration with Kenny Rogers too, shortly before he passed away.
The Oak Ridge Boys are country legends along with The Statler Brothers who were big at the same time! I was lucky enough to see both groups (at different times) at my local state or county fair (I forget which, it was so long ago)!
Just a fun note: this arrangement came from Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay. He passed it along to Home Free when they got the chance to collaborate with the Oaks. Very cool.
I love Geoff too, and Voiceplay. Voiceplay = musical theater acapella with mini movies, Home Free = acapella stage/singing with some cute videos, Pentatonix is a little less my kind, too poppy. Although who can resist Avi? He's in his own folk / singer class...he could sing an ingredient list for cookies and make it sound ahmahzing... :) And to think! The group that brought me into acapella was? No laugh, barbershop New Fangled four...
When this song originally was released by The Oak Ridge Boys... my Mom loved the song. She used to dance in a goofy way, and sing “Mauw Mauw”. A happy memory.
Barry, The Oak Ridge Boys recorded “Elvira” in the 1980s. This is the Oak Ridge Boys’ signature song. Home Free did record a cover of this song without the Oak Ridge Boys.
Austin put the shirt he was wearing into a glass frame. The Oaks all signed it. There is a video where you can see it hanging on the wall when you first enter his home.
The Oak Ridge Boys have been together since 1973...50 years! Pretty much the same lineup. The only acapella country group I can think of for most of those years. They had many hit songs, Elvira being one of them. Thanks Barry
I always love your reactions! I grew up listening to the Oak Ridge Boys. They were the best in the business back in the day and they've passed the torch to Home Free! What a wonderful collab on a classic song! Please react to Home Free singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Brothers in Arms". Keep a tissue handy. You might cry!
😂 I can’t believe you never had the Pleasure of the Oak Ridge Boys music before. They have been Certified Country Artists for decades. Guess it’s better late than never, right 😉. For Home Free to sing with them was a huge blessing to Home Free. Good reaction to this collaboration. The song was a #1 hit for The Oak Ridge Boys in 1981. Its my favorite song of theirs. ❤️
Lol... I almost hit the floor when you indicated the Oak Ridge Boys must be good to sing with HF. Please, Oak Ridge were singing before these kids were born.
The collaboration between HF and The Oak Ridge Boys seems like the passing of the baton from one generation to the next younger generation. These guys sounded "fantastico" together!
Oak Ridge released Elvira in 1966. Please listen to Unchained Melody by Home Free. Made popular in the 60s by the Richeous Brothers. From a 1953 movie called Unchained. ( source of the black and white prison theme)
I think you got some of your dates a little mixed up. Dallas Frazier first recorded "Elvira" in 1966 but it became a big hit when "The Oakridge Boys" recorded it in 1981. Also the movie "Unchained" was released in 1955. Bobby Hatfield from The Righteous Brothers recorded the song "Unchained Melody" in 1965.
Love this collaboration! The Oaks and HF...awesome! The bass for the Oaks (Richard Sterban) sang bass for Elvis Presley, and the tenor for the Oak Ridge Boys (Joe Bonsall) recently passed away. Home Free has collaborated with Kenny Rogers, Peter Hollens, Rachel Wammack, Don McLean (a couple of songs), Avi Kaplan, Jeffrey East, Brooke Eden, Maggie Baugh, Alabama, and another with The Oak Ridge Boys.
The guys felt so honored to do this with the Oak Ridge Boys. And I luv the mutual admiration between them. One gentleman said " I need to meet this Elvira if shes got all this talent singing bout her!" 😂 Enjoyed this immensely
Home Free has worked with several seasoned professionals: "Children, Go Where I Send Thee" with Kenny Rodgers, and "American Pie" with Don McLean come to mind.

I love how the one guy from Home Free is totally fanboying -- wearing their merch, takes a selfie with them, gets them to sign his shirt -- it's priceless!
HF does another collaboration with the Oak Ridge Boys. "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" is a holiday song but it's a great listen any time of year, same for their collaboration with Kenny Rogers & "Children, Go Where I Send Thee." On the latter, listen to the outro for how the collab came to be. One of my all-time favorites is the collab with Don McLean, "American Pie." Don asked HF to join him for a 50th anniversary re-release of the song and it was unbelievably good. Thanks for the reaction, Barry, it was great. PS - I see you reacted to the HF 9-5 video, but you really, really need to see their LIVE performance.
In Beautiful Star of Bethlehem, you will notice that ALL of the voices are perfectly layered. Even through the wonderfully tight harmonies, you can hear each individual voice.
The Oak Ridge Boys began their career in the 1940's (not a typo) singing gospel music as the Oak Ridge Quartet. They later moved toward country music and somewhere along the line changed their name to The Oak Ridge Boys. I was born in 1955, so I have actually heard them all my life! I think listening to gospel quartets gave me my love for bass singers.
The Oke ridge boys have been together since 1974 and this is their song but Home Free has pretty much been there little brothers and has been really good friends over the years. A great song to react to.
I have watched this over and over. I was a huge fan of The Oak Ridge Boys, and hearing them with Home Free brings such joy. Barry, I loved watching this and so appreciate your genuine enthusiasm with every reaction video - having it be a group I am so familiar with and introducing the Oak Ridge Boys to new fans is wonderful. Thanks again.
Love the double reactions, Barry. I remember listening to "Elvira” by The Oak Ridge Boys all the time in the 80’s on the radio. Home Free’s collaboration with them was so special to hear after all these years.
Love Home Free! This one is such a treat! If you're a fan of the bass, Tim Foust, may I suggest his solo acapella song, Come go with me/Stay. He shows that five octave range in it and it's crazy good
Tim Foust not only has a wonderful bass but also has a five octave range. Check out Tim and Austin Browne singing "My Maria" on RUclips to see what I mean!
This song was originally by the Oak ridge Boys when I grew up in late 70's early 80's. I love their interactions. You get the feel the Oak Ridge Boys is passing the baton so to speak to a new generation. They did a Christmas song together called "Beautiful Stsr of Bethlehem" that's amazing too.
Hi Barry! I am PRAYING I'll be home from the hospital by then & able to make the chat & watch Elvira with you! I know you'll enjoy it coz HF sounds great singing this song! They stuck me in the hospital on Monday bcoz my heart was not doing great. They have done every test known to man & can't find anything to explain what's going on, so I'm still here.😕 Well, even if I don't go home, I still hope I can make it tonight!! Looking forward to it! Love you Barry!! 🎶💜🎶
You don't know me Beverly Krebs, but I sincerely hope you get well soon, and they find out what the problem is with your heart. Please take care of yourself. (I personally hate hospitals.)
Loved the reaction to "Elvira" with Home Free and the iconic Oakridge Boys! Noticed you had reacted to "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers, enjoyed that tremendously. May I suggest "Unchained Melody" cover by Home Free, it's amazing. They stayed true to the original but, as always with Home Free, made it their own at the same time. Looking forward to seeing your reaction on this. Thank you for always bringing a smile to our faces and putting a song in our hearts.
This is such a fun one, isn't it? And such a great moment for them, being huge fans of the Oakridge Boys. It's almost like a passing of the torch and always makes me smile. :)

On the latter, listen to the outro for how the collab came to be.
Be sure it’s the 9-5 plus beatboxing live where they all beatbox. It’s awesome!!
I SECOND THE CHOICE OF hF Nd Oak Ridge Boys " BEAUGIFUL STAR OF BETHLEHDM.THE REZPECYT BY EACJ GROUP AND EACHS MEMBERS IS REl.
Love this collaboration with our favorite acapella fellas ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
amazing👍
Brilliant performance, exceptional arrangement! And I enjoyed your very enthusiastic reaction as well : ))
Oh Barry...so glad you got to hear this Collab....geez...I LOVE your reactions cuz they are MINE!!!!
Too much talent ,hmmm well at least more than enough !!!!!
Que voces tienen todos y esa voz grave me encanta, mil besos para ti desde Sevilla, España 💋💋💋💋
I love this older generation, younger generation type of thing. Like passing the torch.
The Oke ridge boys have been together since 1974 and this is their song but Home Free has pretty much been there little brothers and has been really good friends over the years. A great song to react to.
Hear those invisible drums? Adam is the best beatboxer EVER! These guys are so good!
Darlin’ I love every one of your reactions!
Thank you very much Lisa.
My son was 3 or 4 when the Oak ridge boys dropped this record. My son will be 44 soon. He went around singing this song, loudly most of the time ♥️
I have watched this over and over.
No it's not originally done by the Oak ridge boys they have the most popular version though. Original was done in 1966 by Dallas Frazier
I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m sure you’ll be fine and you’ll be home soon enough. Stay strong Beverly, I’m thinking of you.
Best wishes, get well soon.
The guy with the black beard also sings bass, tenor and anything in between, also whistle like you can't believe!
Home Free is Fantastic!!❤❤❤
Loved the reaction to "Elvira" with Home Free and the iconic Oakridge Boys! Noticed you had reacted to "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers, enjoyed that tremendously. May I suggest "Unchained Melody" cover by Home Free, it's amazing. They stayed true to the original but, as always with Home Free, made it their own at the same time. Looking forward to seeing your reaction on this. Thank you for always bringing a smile to our faces and putting a song in our hearts.
great!
This is such a fun one, isn't it? And such a great moment for them, being huge fans of the Oakridge Boys. It's almost like a passing of the torch and always makes me smile. :)
Hello It's Me Barry!! It's Me Wendy Hallman!!...just checking in. I love your reactions, as always. Can't go wrong with Home Free!! We all miss you over at Tea Time with Travis's livestreams. He is having a pop-up livestream this Tuesday at 6:00pm Eastern time (USA). It's going to be a Motown-themed livestream. Sure wish you could drop by...we would love to see you and enjoy a chit-chat with you. Lovely to see your beautiful Irish eyes and gorgeous smile!!
Absolutely love your Home Free reactions!
The oak Ridge Boys released Elvira in 1981. They are Country Classic!
Oakridge Boys are great too!!❤❤
Oh! What a treat! I grew up listening to the Oak Ridge Boys and remember. this song very well. VERY well, indeed. It played over and over and over....and OVER....on every country radio station every day. I'm 69 years old now and I can still sing every word. lol....Such fun to hear them with Home Free. I hope you will review their song "In The Blood". I am curious what you will think about it.
This was an amazing collaboration! I grew up with the Oakridge boys and 80s style country for a few years but loved this
Did you see Austin and his " Fangirl " moment? Or Catch Rob comparing beards?
Or that amazing bass drop by Adam at about 4:18 just before the blackout?
You're so cute when you say "part twoooooo" it sounds so adorable. Can't tell I have a thing for accents can ya.
I’ve noticed when I’m editing a couple of my recent videos, that I’ve started saying that. I have to try stop myself from making everything into a catchphrase. But that’s a nice thing to say, thank you @SGT FUBAR
@@ItsmeBarry oh don't change it. It's adorable. It just rolls off your tongue. And it works so well with your accent.
My grandma was from North Carolina she loved the Oak Ridge Boys and this song was one of her faviortes.
I love the smile on your face when you hear just the right note(s) and blend of Perfect voices in the songs you react to for us💜😊🎶
Oh Barry! I was smiling along with you man! Your reaction pretty mine mirrored mine....I'm in shock (and a little awe)...I never expected this track to be that good!
You said about the layers.....and well....there's so much going on....I now need to go to the original video to watch and listen to this again....to catch everything.....and I'll probably have to watch it multiple times! Awesome!
Such a friendly comment, from a great guy.
Thanks Vic.
great reaction x
You are reviewing one of my favorite songs from Home Free. Their collaborations are some of the best.
I Loved the watching it twice!!!! Thank You!!!💖💖💖💖
