Also of note is how well another rookie reserve-Mehmet Okur-played for Detroit in this game, posting 6 points on 3-4 shooting, 5 rebounds (3 offensive), 3 assists, 0 turnovers, and 4 steals. Those two rookies, Okur and Prince, really made a difference off the bench in the Pistons' playoff run as the franchise reached its first Eastern Conference Finals since 1991. By the way, the Shawn Kemp sign at the end of this video is so cold ...
Yep, now if they had only drafted really any of the top 3-4 ranked players they could've had with their early pick instead of the Human Victory Cigar Darko Milicic. That's at least 2 titles, maybe 3.
@@Harasnails It did. Losing him, Williamson and James hurt. Okur clearly had potential that he later showed in Utah. James was a solid backup PG who had a 20PPG/5.8APG season in Toronto before injuries really hurt his career. But McDyess was a good pickup.
Ironically, I remember Teyshaun Prince breaking out in the next series against Philadelphia, but not in this one. I know that I viewed at least part of this Game Seven, but if I saw Prince emerge in this contest (he scored 20 points with 3 assists in this game, shooting 7-10 from the field, 3-5 on threes, and 3-4 from the foul line), I retain no memory of this emergence. Again, my memory is of what he accomplished in the next series.
Instead, I remember Chauncey Billups scoring 37 points in this game after scoring 40 in Game Seven. But perusing the game logs, I see now that Detroit went 4-1 in the series against Orlando when Prince played and 4-0 when Prince played at least 15 minutes. When Prince scored 15 points with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 0 turnovers in 33 minutes in Game Five, the Pistons began their comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
Notice how much better the Pistons got, esp., on defense, once Carlisle was gone. Not one of the more liked coaches in the league. Certainly no Larry Brown as far as X's and O's go. Brown started Prince and their defense was noticeably better as well as adding to the versatility of their offense.
What’s crazy is:. And it was this ‘emergence’ that was the first domino in a crazy sequence: Pistons had the 2nd pick or the draft: instead of drafting Carmelo Anthony; they went with Darko in part because they liked what they had with Prince at SF. And thought Darko was bigger position need. As it turns out Darko was a bust but the next years Pistons Team won the title with Prince as a starter. But The Pistons likening Prince and taking Darko; Dropped Carmelo to 3rd to the Nuggets, Bosh to 4th to the raptors and Dwayne Wade 5th the the Heat. Had the Pistons taken Melo; all of that could have and probably would have played out much differently. The lakers would have also probably won the title next year as Piston’s won on defense and unselfish Offense; neither of which are strengths of Carmelo. Another title might have kept Kobe and Shaq and Phil together longer and who knows if the trio in south beach would have as maybe Bosh and certainly Wade would have started with different franchises.
So while Billups may have amounted to the unofficial series MVP, Prince played a pivotal role. Again, when he was on the court for at least 15 minutes, Detroit went 4-0; when he didn't play or played under 15 minutes, the Pistons went 0-3. Surely, that relationship wasn't coincidental.
Man what a great time to be a Pistons fan that was. I was 12 at the time. Great memories.

Losing Memo hurt us a LOT.
@@daveconleyportfolio5192Mike James too.
Sure did. Our spacing was not the same and the pistons play became more predictable

Ahh, I remember this game. I remember it being an early Sunday afternoon watching in my little brother's room. Memories, such great memories..
Thank you Tay always a Piston.
I love the "Kemp is my Dad" sign at the end of the video... well played! lol

Tayshaun was ridiculous in the Philly series
Que recuerdos de este equipo ❤😢

looks like a baby :) That brought back good memories
Very, very nice player!
Love Tay-Tay ❤️

That 2004 Pistons team could have kicked a lot of others teams asses. The Defense was out of this world.
this was 2003
Kemp's everybody's dad
Magic lose Game 7 because of Tayshaun Prince's epic night!

If only Carlisle knew what he had earlier. Michael Curry was dead weight, in the starting lineup.
I think Chauncey had something like 44pts in this game
If they kept Okur, they would’ve won another one
I thought he was drafted earlier than McGrady...
