sad thing is, there's lots of games that are built from the ground up that are specifically aimed at people that love D&I, seriously if you google it you can find lots of games that are made for all types of LGBTQ gaming fans, and honestly I think that's great, lets all enjoy games imho. But obviously this does not make them happy, what truly makes them happy is when other spaces are tainted with their messaging. You can see them celebrating on places like twitter every time another 'normal' game is injected with a bunch of woke-mind-virus messaging. Final Fantasy XIII suffered from this criticism back in the day even though it was hardly the first in the franchise to be linear. I'm personally rather tired of open world games because Ubisoft has soured me on the concept too many times.

I love the linear games! Not everyone like Open world games, it is just a personal preference it does not make a game better or worst. I prefer a game with a good story, fun combat, & beautiful character design. Any game that meets this requirements, I'm more than happy to give them my $$$. 😆😆😆

There was a show on Netflix nearly a decade ago called Monkey. It was literally a feminist version of Journey to the west. And it was done in like a 90s mythology TV show like Hercules or Xena. Nobody talked about it, seen it or cared about it. It was that bad. And there's a good chance this is the first time most of you have even heard about it.

An amazing game. Wukong is a Chinese mythology figure, hijacked by the Japanese In Dragon Ball story. Now the Chinese are reclaiming back their story.

being inspired and Hijacked are completely different things. Dragon ball was inspired by JTTW, However, besides the inspiration, It is it's own thing with a different story and Different Characters. JTTW was always chinese and nobody is denying that.

The irony is that there are three, THREE women noteworthy in all the writings about Wukong. One is Nuwa, the goddess whose tears gave birth to Wukong, the White Bone Demon who wants to eat Shenzeng, and Ox King's wife. That's it. You can't have more women in Wukong because you just can't add women for the sake of adding women. All the enemies are male demons, and the only female demons noteworthy in Wukong stories are the Foxes and the Spiders. And if I'm not mistaking, they are in the game.
It's a Chinese game based on Chinese mythology. Imagine an African studio making a game with African legends and white folks demanding diversity.
The game is not entirely based on "Journey to the West". It takes elements from a lot of other Wukong stories.
Thankfully people and good sites gave it crazy high scores so now that's a general consensus and the freaks that gave it a low score stick out in a bad way 😂🔥

The game never once said it was for a "modern audience" nor did it say there would be a lot of "diversity and inclusion" You can't dock a game points for not having something you would have wanted that they never said they were gonna add. I get kinda annoyed when I can't just dive into a game, because I know there is bound to be gobs of missable content, hidden options, early decisions that lock out endings, etc.
Linear games are quite refreshing in how I don't really need to research anything to not waste time.
I normally wouldn't mind the trial and error storytelling that many open worlds seem to have, but my availability for gaming is about 2-3 hours a week these days, so I try to make it count.

If you are reviewing a video game, the only question to answer is “whether or not it’s a good game” and why.
Diversity has ZERO to do with that question. Bugs, FPS, graphics quality, story writing when appropriate, translation when appropriate, and the like… those things matter.
Not only I am going to stream myself playing the game, I will do so with Chinese VA enabled which will potentially make those "journalists" foam at the mouth uncontrollably. I like Journey To The West since I was a kid and nothing will stop me from playing the game.
I'm not even a gamer, and somehow I find myself interested in your commentary every day. The last game I played was Dragon's Dogma. But your insights on development, reception, reviews, and the audience are entertaining and educational. It shows strong understanding of the general cultural zeitgeist.
The book actually does have a lot of female characters. The first actual monster besides the human gangs was the white bone lady. There was also guanyin. The girl that the pig was forcing to be his wife. The spider girls, the roosters mother who helped defeat the spider girls. The bull kings wife and his mistress. The adopted daughter of li xing (spelled that wrong probably). The princesses that get kidnapped, lol. There were plenty. But the majority of the big fight monsters were male. So I can see why the game featured more male monsters vs females.

Journalist mode: Cuphead showed how much it was needed when a game "reviewer/journalist" got stuck on the training area's jump dash for 30 min. And that's sad, because how can you fairly review something when a 6 year old shows a better capacity to understand the task set before them and execute it.
You want a cooking knife reviewed, talk to a chef. Your paver evaluated, contact pavers. But in the games industry; it's the incompetent, the ones that don't use the medium that get to be the "journalist". And then dare to wonder why no one listens to their opinions anymore.
if game "journos" want trust, how about they start show that they are trustworthy? they worked long and hard to destroy any trust, it will take at least double the work to get that back
