These sculptures reveal that they are already mature works of art, preceded by earlier attempts. They are such that in our time we could call them a kind of modern art trend: the lines are completely sure and the head sculptures are completely the same. It should also be seen that this style was practiced on other objects as well - it is very thought-provoking!
Fascinating, I never heard of this ancient civilization before! It seems it was a strong civilization. Thanks, beneficial info better than wars and constant rivalry news.
I'm so fascinated by the SanXingDui culture and what it may be able to tell us. -Why was it not mentioned in any old texts? Perhaps they had no writing system and it was so far removed from the North China Plain (中原) that there was no contact. -What were their beliefs? -Why are there no depictions of the sun? (which is normal in early agrarian societies. They worship the sun which brings them their food) -Are the human figures religious leaders? -Are the animal figures signs of animism? -So many large bronze artifacts are usually a sign of a large, organized society. A small village would not have the manpower or time to make this. So interesting!
@@mingouczjcz3800 Thanks for that extra info. Very interesting. We can imagine (without knowing for sure) that they believed birds inside the sun pushed it across the sky. In some countries in Europe the sun was depicted as being pulled by oxen across the sky.
If not mistaken, the people during the Shang dynasty are at constant war. And we know that in ancient times, many historical records were destroyed by enemies. They still use bone oracles so their records must have eroded. Bone oracles like the turtle/tortoise shell oracle are extremely rare, not sure how many were discovered so far.

The many masks and mythical creatures at this site once had elephant tusks protruding from the large opening on their heads. They were removed prior to being thrown in the pits. It would be helpful if the archaeologists would insert the tusks where they belong before putting the objects on display.

Sanxingdui doesn't look like any chinese civilization or any asian civilization we ever seen. It has more aztec features. But since the theory that ancient asians have crossed the bering strait to the american continent, it might be true they are the ancestors of the aztecs or native indians.
The interesting is that Chinese civilization is more than 5000 of history. And most of what we see is just Song Ming Qing. The last dynasties. But Shang, Qin , Zhou alot of the earlier dynasties are very interesting. Also the dragon is different.

Love any archeological finds, they provide us with so much joy and fascination!
Sanxingdui! I wish this exhibition would tour around the world! China is such a fascinating country! And still so much to discover buried there!
Love it!! Hope they'll show more when they discover new artifacts.
Thank you for the knowledge and the tour
I wish more people appreciated museums, they are very important in preserving our history

There's a Sun depiction figure, which is made of thin gold sheet, and inside the Sun there are four fairy birds.

if they were labelled as an "evil" cult, that would explain why they are not mentioned in chinese historical records.
