What I think they meant is that you don't have to feed every polyp at once, but you should aim to feed different, and eventually all, polyps over multiple feedings.
So it's true that each polyp is interconnected within the colony - so feeding one polyp can help feed other polyps if the colony is starving. However, ignoring specific polyps in the long term will eventually cause the whole colony to starve since certain polyps aren't pulling their weight and mooching off of others. So yes, every polyp should be fed eventually. Hope that clarifies things! - Stephen
An actual question this time- what do you do if you have a vacation or a long weekend away that means you can’t feed every day? If you’ve fed them every couple days for months, will they be ok for a 3-4 days without a feed?
I have done quite a bit of traveling with the same Fathead Dendro in my previous 45g tank. That there was no problem convincing it to open up and grab food even after 1 week, although at the 1.5 week mark it took a noticeable effort to convince the polyps to open up. And around 2 weeks without feeding things got sketchy. I remember having to wait and see when the polyp naturally open a little bit (usually at night), and I'd have to make an effort to make sure they get food so that they would have energy to open again. Usually after they take the first bite, things would go back to normally very quickly. This was only with the Fathead Dendro though, I have not had experience with going without feeding for the Sun Coral.
Hey dude do you mind telling me what caused your frogspawn to not open as big as usual last time? I cant find the video where you found the cause or something . Im having the same problem now with my hammer and i cant figure out why.
I am still trying to figure it out in the Mangrove tank, it has been unhappy starting last month and has not opened fully. Some more knowledgeable reefers recently helped me with a checklist, it goes from too much light, too much flow, alk swing, temp swing, pest. I am slowly narrowing the list down, hope it help you identify what's bugging yours as well. Some people recommend a dip to revitalize the coral, I have not tried that yet with mine.
Excellent information and I’m really glad you brought on the dendro detective, Stephen!! Haha that’s just what I call him, but he is a pro at nps as you know. Can’t wait until my rescued sun coral colony is as healthy as his. And damn I bet that not having that pink sun coral is probably the worst regret of your life 😝 at least you have other nps. Again awesome video from both of you! 🙌🏻
Brought a sun coral about 3 weeks ago its not come out yet but I feed it daily and takes the food. But it is not come out full. Advice please. Kind regards
While Dendros and Sun corals can be kept and not too hard they certainly are not a beginner coral and require feedings. As far as other NPS corals some are near impossible to keep or require allot of care. Some NPS corals need to be feed almost 24/7 or they will starve. Also what UV sterilizer where you talking about in the video?
Another part that I haven't really touched on is how much excess nutrient I am pumping into the tank by feeding the NPS I have... I need to beef up that refugium! I should have asked Stephen about his water parameters and how he keeps them in check.
Do you not read the comments on your few month older videos? A number of people want to know if you found out what the problem was with your frogspawn in the video you posted back in February.
Hey G B, if it's a comment that's added after the video has been out for awhile, there is a good chance I would have missed it; here is what I wrote up a few days ago for the same question, I suspect it may also have been light-shocked, but cannot be sure until I have gone through all the things mentioned below: I am still trying to figure it out in the Mangrove tank, it has been unhappy starting last month and has not opened fully. LOL! We have been talking about dressing up as the landlord/landlady for Halloween for awhile. I am sure at some point I will once the lights are dialed in, I'll be waving the PAR meter around!
Hey Moki, love your content and enthusiasm, and I don’t want to be that guy, but you need to consider keeping your kid home if you’re out and about wearing a mask because of SARS-CoV2. Babies and kids are just as susceptible as anyone else and need protected too. Something to consider.
Inappropriate Reefer I appreciate you being open to thinking about it. Not many people take nicely to a complete stranger on the internet telling them to do something different, and it’s refreshing to hear you are willing. FYI I’m a 22 year career virologist, if that makes any impact on how much credence you give my initial post. Thanks!
@@neilphillips3193 Well that certainly put more weight on your suggestion as well! I can see that the comment came from a place of meaning well, there was no reason to take any sort of offense and I (we) appreciate it, seriously! 🙏
I thought every polyp had to be fed as they are all individuals.

i guess I am quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to watch new series online ?
@@kennethnicholas5938 I would say in your living room or bedroom. I guess wherever you have a good size TV and a comfortable place to sit.
Yessss another uploaddd
So sun corals need feeding but a pest and a non photosynthetic mushroom like the ball anemone survive in my aquarium even though i ignore it

The funniest ending!!! Lol 😂
I highly recommend UV. If that’s a bacterial bloom - and it very likely is - UV will take care of it very quickly.
Where did you get the covers for the wet side of the Mp40's those ones don't look bad like some of them
Hey man, just from eBay, someone was 3D printing them based off of the popular public domain design
Thanks for the guide! You are really pushing me to get NPS now lol 😂
Another part that I haven't really touched on is how much excess nutrient I am pumping into the tank by feeding the NPS I have... I need to beef up that refugium! I should have asked Stephen about his water parameters and how he keeps them in check.

Does this apply to other dendros or just fatheads specically?
She's missing that hanging cigarette lol. Thank you for all the great info. Will you ever do a lighting video?

After seeing the prices and sizes of these, my pockets are going to hurt after expanding my gorgonian collection 🤩
I understand your pain completely sir!
ok the music at end is not annoying at all XD
Haha, I used to do Peking Opera (this music)
Fish!
Is Pijama the mandatory dress code at your RUclips Studio ? :D :D :D
we like to talk to you guys in our most relaxed state, lol
👍🏻
Are walking dendros nps?
They are not but I do target feed mine once inawhile when feeding the tank.
Interessante este coral sol!
Aqui no litoral virou praga, infelizmente!
Interesting this sun coral!
Here on the coast it turned into a plague, unfortunately!

Look up Live Plants GCE for very cheap macros and gorgs.

It freaks me out, whenever I hear his wife talk, it sounds exactly like Mantis in guardians of the galaxy 2.
I haven't made that connection... time to rewatch GoG2!!
how strange that you have not made video how to control the temperature of the aquarium
Peppermint shrimp no thanks.
I got some and are not that bad. They don’t mess with corals and they quickly go fir food that hits the substrate
Get a UV sterilizer... u will have pristine clear water in less than 24 hours
Got one, testing it right now!
Inappropriate Reefer great!!! U will regret not getting one earlier.. waiting for your review anxiously!!! 😅

They definitely got chunky, if I have to guess, the female is probably 3.5"? I will double check
