    Welcome to the shit-hole of DM discography, xD next is Broken which is (fairly) good but next two songs are crap too...song "Soft Touch/Raw Nerve" has very weird production approach so it sounds very bad...You'll see

    This was written by Martin back in 92' and was meant for Songs Of Faith And Devotion

  • @FredrikAndersson597
    @FredrikAndersson597 4 месяца назад +2

    I think Martin wrote this song around the time of Songs of faith and devotion. It's no coincidence that it wasn't considered to be placed on any album at the time, nor as a b-side or similar, but now it is placed as an album track - on Delta machine.
    Mediocre song and a mostly monotonous blues-inspired sound, in my opinion.

    Oh, the subtitles are so bad … and wrong. 😖
    Funny how this is my favourite song of the album. Also: why does it always have to be about drugs? Maybe it is about neurodivergence or literally against the usual bigger-better-faster-harder-sex-on-tv-and-everywhere-else?

      100% agree! I detest Spirit but even this has three songs of my all-time top 20 of DM (unfortunately the other songs are crap IMO). And as for Delta Machine, my favourites are Broken and Happens All the Time - both are yet to come here on Seph‘s channel.
      And Memento Mori is a masterpiece!

    That's a fair reaction though I personally don't mind the song as much. Knowing that Martin's a total perv, these lyrics are all about sex. He likes it slow. Fun fact, this was a lost song that Martin wrote years before. How many great songs has he written that have never been heard? As far as Delta Machine goes, we did warn you. The good news is it finishes strong. Hang in there!

    I love the sequence of facial expressions you have here culminating with a long sigh, head shake, and arms-in-the-air shrug. (1:37)
    *Dave/Martin*: "When speed's in my heart. When speed's in my head." (3:36) *Seph*: "That don't sound good, 'When speeds in my heart and my head.' You can take that as literal like the drug. Right? And that would explain the last song!" Best line of the reaction!
    And then you try the pretzel on for size, listening to the song again.🥨 (5:35) "So I'm actually giving this a second listen because I love this band, okay? I refuse to have two bad songs in a row. I can't do that. I'm not doing it." And then, thankfully, reject the painful pretzel position.
    "But then you've got this part at the end, sounds like a flippin'... Have you ever played Space Invaders? And you've got that little UFO that goes across the sky quite slow and you have to shoot it and you get loads of points? It kind of sounds like that sound, but like slowed." (7:33) I love all these old video game references. I was good at the Atari 2600 version of Space Invaders, but sucked at the stand-up arcade version.
    "Are we still in 'Crap Mode'? I think we might be, unfortunately!" (8:02) Definitely.

      @@SephPlays I'm actually really grateful that you are feeling confident that you can express your honest opinions about these more recent tunes, Depeche Mode fanatics be damned! This is, in part, what makes your channel so compelling.
      Your AI reaction video was taken down (copyright issues?), but I was still able to read your reply from an email notification. Man, it's super cool that you watched the movie, HER, last night. That movie hit me so hard because I know that I could *easily* be "seduced" by an AI bot that was essentially giving me *everything* I needed, emotionally speaking, in just the right voice and tone. And listening to the flirty woman's voice in the OpenAI video demonstrated the power of this in practice. I was getting a little turned on by her, so you can imagine if it was a man's voice being kinda flirty. I'd be a goner!
      THIS IS SPINAL TAP is a classic film that I've watched many, many times. It's endlessly quotable, which I have done here on your channel more than once! I do hope, though, that I haven't hyped it up so much that I have set you up to be disappointed. But you have a really great sense of humor, so I think you will enjoy it. But again, if you HATE IT, you can tell me! I'm a big boy! I'm not precious about this stuff!

      "Her" was crazyyyyyy. I was even expecting it to take a dark turn at a couple of points in the movie. But no it was more of a romantic drama more then anything...
      Did you know that scarlett johansson has heard about this new AI and said that it kinda sounds like her? What's the world coming too huh?
      I'm looking forward to watching it, It's a shame i can't reallyyyyyy react to it here on the channel. But i have tried Movie reactions in the past and i have always been met with Copyright issues and extremelyyyyyyy low views.
      I done a reaction to the first 3 Star Wars films and the comments were all like "When's the next Depeche Mode song reaction?" "This doesn't sound like Elvis" "I thought you were a song reaction channel? Unsubbed"
      Sooooooo ya i gave up with that rather fast xD

      @@SephPlays Oh, yeah I saw that Scarlett Johansson is threatening legal action against OpenAI, but apparently Sam Altman is denying it's HER (I couldn't help myself.) It's the wild, wild west at the moment regarding AI companies using everything and anything to train their models.

    I think I like this song better when Martin sings it, which he does live. Regarding the line about speed in his heart and head, it's a racing heartbeat and racing thoughts. I know you were joking about the drug, speed, but so many people think Depeche Mode songs are about drugs ever since learning about Dave taking them a long time ago. Dave wasn't writing the songs then, and Martin's drug was into alcohol then. Sorry for the tangent. I just wanted to put that out there.

    Sorry Seph, you've hit the fallow period of DM with a few gem-like green shoots here and there. All I can say is over 40+ years, it's normal to have some time when things go off track. It just feels relentless as it covers pretty much 2 ( some would say 3) back-to back albums. The Great Redeemer came with MM, thankfully.

  • @cemode7394

    "Delta" stands for the blues elements and "Machine" stands for the electronic elements of the album.
    Dave: "We had a few permutations of the title, like 'something' Machine and Delta 'something' before Martin said, 'Delta Machine?' But I wouldn't dare say this is a blues record as Fletch has said a couple of times. That's insulting, to blues musicians, on so many levels. Well, OK, we have influences coming from the blues. And Depeche Mode is fundamentally us whining, searching for something, moaning our way through life." (laughs)

  • @sndlugo672
    @sndlugo672 4 месяца назад

    Hahaha! Some bands have 1 or 2 good songs in their whole career. We complain about 2 bad songs in a row from Depeche Mode. We are all truly spoiled to the core. But yeah... this song is lacking. I don't like Dave's whining voice too much. Much prefer his 80s style deeper tones. It could've saved this song.

  • @Mx.RumpusParable

    This is not a favorite, but solidly sexy. I don't take it from the drug angle, but as a mention of "speed" to contrast the "slow"... busy head and nerves and world outside the bedroom, letting that go inside it and having time to focus only on the time with their partner.
    I like the heavier blues angle on this one and Dave's lyric delivery, but it's not otherwise amazing. The album as a whole was hard for me the first time around and I figured out for *me* why it was so hard to get into at first: despite being a fan of both genres, I'd never heard industrial blues. After a few listens it really grew on me but it took time for familiarity in such a contrast blend.
    Separate of my own reasons/experience, I can definitely appreciate this album not being very enjoyable.... especially to high Depeche Mode standards to compare to.
    With no worry of spoilers, I can say that on the latest album when they released Ghosts Again as the first single I was dreading the new album. Full-on "oh no". Not that it was terrible by any means. Compared to general "radio", very good. By Depeche Mode standards? I was so disappointed.
    But when the album came out I laid down and listened to it straight-through (I am still someone who likes that) and within the album song lineup it hit *entirely* differently. After hearing it "in context", so to speak, it comes across totally differently when I hear it on its own now. (Thank god....)
    Sorry, today is one of my verbose days. And a bit all-over in thoughts....

  • @JessePinkman-sx2ql
    @JessePinkman-sx2ql 4 месяца назад +5

    Definitely still in crap mode, unfortunately. Contrary to many of the comments claiming otherwise, the latest album Memento Mori is sadly not much different. You are in for two albums after 2013's Delta Machine where any song from those two albums could have appeared on Delta Machine or vice versa, there really is no discernible album-wide musical or lyrical theme. Lyrically, nothing stands out as being much better than what you are hearing on any of the songs from 2009 onwards. "I like the way you move for me tonight, alright now, all night," "Standing on the shore... are you sure," "First we stand up, then we fall down, we have to move forward before we drown," "I will let you down, I need to know you're here with me, turn it all around." It really is terrible to witness, this was the band you could reliably turn to for the better part of thirty years and know the music would always be of the utmost quality. It unfortunately became less about the art and more about the business at a certain point.
